You know what I like? In all the stress, race, training etc you DON'T forget to see and share the beauty of ocean, moon, sunrise etc. It's not just about winning. I see some people sailing and never see nature but race to next destination. You are a GREAT sailor.
Great video, that captures the excitement and frustration of racing very well. Bravo.
Patrick! big fan of your videos too. keep it up man
Thanks a lot Patrick, fair winds to you!
If you always win its boring for us. The map with the boats is actually really helpful to visualise whats going on. Very nice touch.
Hugo, I’ve just binged watched all 100 sum videos while being sick this week. Your the best man! We all watch not because you are a winning skipper but because you love sailing and it’s fun to see how much joy you get from it! Just wanted to say please keep filming, I will look forward to updates on the rest of the Clipper race diligently!!!
The wind is a fickled friend, but it's never over until the finish Hugo. It was good to see the positiveness come back to you.
Great to see you finish in the top 1/3 Hugo. If we don't make mistakes we don't learn anything new, rather early on than later and it was still awesome to watch, supper excited for the next one.
Ah, you win some, you loose some. When you mentioned Ile de Yeu, I was thinking to myself that I'd seen that island on Adventures of an Old Seadog. You start to realise just how many sailing vlogs you follow when you start recognising places from other channels! LOL
The first real race I won I took a flyer and sailed a different course than everyone else. Because of this it took me much longer to learn the lesson “always stay with the leaders”. Win by sailing better than everyone else not by getting lucky. In addition by sailing with the leaders you will always get a good result. In a long season consistency will pay off. It is very difficult for me not to sail away when I think it will give me an advantage and I still do it sometimes but I do it much less often now and never when I’m near the front. Best wishes. Have fun and always enjoy the sailing. The real winners are the people that enjoy the sailing.
Good advice,
I'm happy to say that I contribute 10 Euros to your adventure. It is not much but I'm not really wealthy.... so happy to be part of your great project.
Let's do it Hugo ! You deserve it 👍✌👍
THank you so much, every little bit counts!
Fair winds
Félicitations Hugo! the most important part is to enjoy what you do and always try to do better next time! ;)
the song that plays at the finish line has a sample of jorge ben jor's Por Causa de Você. Love when gringos cite brazillian songs. Nice video also!
Another good one. Please,No more spoilers.Thank you.
Congratulations Hugo! Great video as always. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much!
Awesome dude! Glad for the updates.
It was that kind of foggy weather which cost Bouwe Bekking his victory in the last Volvo Ocean race on the shore of new port. You never see him angry but look at the footage.
Following in that wake of giants up the channel into Les Sables in a race boat must be a great feeling!! I've done it in my Edel 4, but she is a very different craft!!
Well done big man they look like great little boats to sail
Keep up the good work I'm hoping your in the top ten next race 🤞
great race, thanks for posting
Always good to see you are doing well Hugo !!!
Another awesome video my friend!
It's a learning curve, you didn't come last so that's good.
Enjoyable video, good luck in next race.
Nice one Hugo 👍
Fantastic video.
Thanks for sharing.
Success for the next regatta...
Congratulations
You live and learn! At least the sun was shining. Overall I don’t think you should be disappointed, I’m not going to ask for a refund just yet !
Well done 👍
Good job man!
Pretty darn cool. 😎 Go Hugo Go!
Thank you Mate 👍👏⚓️
O knots racing!!!!
nice sail trimming
Salut Hugo...Bom Courage
Great video, reminds me of making 20 miles in a week against a counter current
Whats that highlander sun creme btw?
Weather weather weather, it’s all about finding the god damn wind
Great video as usual! I note you have a Watt & Sea water generator. Which model do you have?
So far I have a prototype we are testing for minis
What are the currents like? Are they covered in the weather briefing? As you mentioned, they can impact how you do in a race for sure, especially in a light wind if the current is against you.
For sure, these are tidals currents, very well predicted
@@yt75009 When I was a kid sailing and racing off the New England coast, it was always the few kids (while we were racing dinghys) that knew the currents really well, who knew enough to think outside the box. Sometimes It seemed like they were sailing far off course, to take advantage of weaker currents. Yet they were the ones, who always would end up winning the races.
Yeah, many currents, they are not part of the weather brief since they are predictable variables, so it's up to each skipper to plan his race including those
Great video. Well done. Are the running backstays difficult as a solo sailor?
It's not too bad, the boat has pushing spreaders so it gives you a bit of flexibility operating the runnning backstay
Light air sucks! Good job you'll do better next time.
Wooo Hooo
I went through 4 commercials to see the whole video.
💙
Every wrong decision possible? GTFAOH!
How much for a transatlantic sail boat? Is $25,000.00 enough?
Yes and no, no and yes, Boats have no real value. They are very hard to sell. A lot of sellers have a totally wrong idea and hang on the a worthless boat way to long. There are owners who really love there boat like a person. Those look for a new owner to respect and love there boat more then to look for money. I bought mine form an owner like that. 41ft steel ketch, in not too bad a condition, but some work for 10k euro. It is currently not set up for big travels with all the sleeping in the very bow and very aft, but that could be changed if I wanted to. Look at a boat broker with 25 K and you will not get far. Go to a boat yard with boats on the hard mid summer. Contact the owners and less then 5 K will go a long way
@@Nerd3927 thanks for your response man
Thanks again ur a legend
BTW I live in South Texas by the ocean
@@rareELL I live in the Netherlands. Might be different but both youtube channels "learning the lines" and "sailing miss Lonestar" manged to find a free boat. Don't be fooled by the saying "there is nothing so expensive as a cheap boat". In the 25.000 dollar/euro price range everything is old and needs replacing anyway. Invest time and 25000 into a free boat and you have a much better deal in my opinion.
I enjoy your video's but if you want a sponsor, you might rethink wearing that cap.
Sailing Virgins is a pretty well known company that teaches skills to cruisers in the BVIs.
Oh. Ok then, just sounds a bit dodgy.
Can't you also use the small solar powered engine to speed you up?
K Hof No. Using an engine in a sailboat race is a serious no, no.
Hehe, nope, it's a sailing race, not a motor race :)
I want to sail with you and clean, cook.
1st :D
Congratulations.
