Dan's take on this is 100% dead on. Amazing how if you see the entire segment and not just the snippet everyone freaks about it's obvious that the Race talk about this is asinine.
Rush Limbaugh & Dennis Miller were both terrible on MNF.........oh and both WG's Rush Limpballs said Donovan McNabb wasn't a very good QB and was a future MVP ( LMFAO!!!! ).
As a black man who listens to Lebatard frequently I can see where he's coming from. Even I thought "WTF, they gave that gig to Magic?". Magic is just the latest big time athlete to get a job he's not qualified for.
I agree. Around here they wanted peyton manning as our president of football operations in Cleveland. People actually thought that was a good idea. Lol.
Jason Jones In most cases, I agree with Dan, especially about people not earning these jobs. This one particular case, Dan didnt understand that it wasn't just some famous dude getting a job... It was Magic. With the Lakers
Thank you Dan, for calling out Keyshawn Johnson and the other LAZY "broadcasters" for... 1. labeling someone a racist simply for asking the question of why Magic is qualified for this job when he has failed as a coach and all the other previously mentioned jobs. 2. Obviously not understanding who Le Batard is, because he is Not a racist! But he will ask uncomfortable questions that SHOULD be asked, questions that Keyshawn would be afraid to ask. 3. Bringing attention to the fact that others have "jumped the line" for positions like VP/GM/Coach etc... But apparently its not P.C. to criticize an extremely likable man and African American when he "jumps the line". Phil Jackson is a bust with the Knicks, Matt Millen a bust with the Lions, every Browns GM in recent history has been a bust. Time will tell if Magic works out at his new position, but is it unfair/racist to cast some doubt on the move, to question at all if this is right...Absolutely not. Thank you Dan!
Here's the thing. If Lebatard had been the 5th person at espn to be highly critical of Magic, his rant probably went too far. But with EVERYONE at espn was so eager to praise Magic Johnson and call him the savior of the Lakers, I thought Dan speaking as hard as he did was not only appropriate, but overdue. I hate the Magic hiring as much as I hated Phil Jackson's hiring, and it's amazing to me how so many people (New Yorkers especially) are so blind to the parallels here.
Right Jack. I listened to that show on that day and Dan did rant. He went on and on. Dan does like to make people uncomfortable but sometimes when you do that, get ready for it to backfire. He went against the masses. I think that the fallout was mostly from people who are not regular listeners to his show. But I think it did bother him that some colleagues went against him the way they did. Sometimes people don't know you as well as you think they do.
When Dan supports a black man, people yell he's playing the black card. If he doesn't support them, then he's a racist. Dan will always catch the crap end of the stick. And what's nice for him, he doesn't care.
I don't think Le Batard was wrong in what he was saying. There's nothing wrong with asking the question ' is he the right guy '? Other than playing Magic has not been successful in any other aspects of basketball, and just because he was a great player doesn't mean he is or will be any good at evaluating and acquiring talent.
Tommy Lasorda was a interim GM with the Dodgers and was terrible, Bart Starr was a awful coach in Green Bay. Both WG's who got a gig and bypassed more qualified people ( If Bill Belichick had to compete for the Packer's coaching position vs Bart Starr in 1974, then who would prevail? ).
How sensitive people have become in this PC society is absolutely nauseous! Dan dissected this "issue" very well, DLB wasn't being racist; he was bringing up a very valid and logical fact regarding people "jumping the line" and getting multiple opportunities based on popularity and ass kissing, than actual merits and experience. It happens in all walks of life, but it's obviously more visible in public positions like in sports.
Yes!!! This is what I’ve been telling people for YEARS!!! Magic has been a successful investor, but he hasn’t been a successful businessman. There’s a difference. Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and others have created products and services that people around the world use every day. All Magic has done has hired smart people to recommend and manage investment opportunities. Magic is an investor not a businessman.
As a minority if you don't like what you hear yell racist, homophobe, sexist, ect. This from people who can't or unwilling to make a logical arguement. Gets old and people who do this have no credibility.
JOSEPH JAKUBEC except now that Trump is President, and since his campaign began, America is filled with racists. You can't just say that. Most times I see people call somebody a sexist, they're sexist. Same with racist. Same with homophobes. Don't want to be labeled as a bigot? Don't be one.
JOSEPH JAKUBEC as a white person if you don't like what you hear, bitch and moan and cry about "reverse racism" while ignoring the fact that whites complain about people complaining.
Le batard was a 100% right, he called that ish like an 800 #. Magic did a horrible job. Lol. He straight up hurt the franchise because he couldn’t keep his mouth shut, and on more than one occasion, and for the record I love magic but damn!
Well said Dan Patrick I lost a lot of respect for LZ and Keyshawn that day an poor Jorge Sedano in the middle of all of that is really good friends with lebatard
I'm black, I don't like LeBatard, and I also think this discussion has zero to do with race. I swear to god, it sickens me how often minorities play the race card where it's irrelevant. People will stop giving a shit about real racial inequality because they've gotten tired of hearing the same song eventually
Its true saying thats racist or blame racism has become deluded.. it use to mean something .. and to say it would bring discussion and often change.. now it's just a word
Yeah, I can agree with it. The famous hire doesn’t work very often. Danny Ainge, Larry Bird, & Elway are the only ones I can think of that succeeded. His statement wasn’t racist, it was true.
LeBatard questioned Magic's qualifications and that was an objective point, but didn't Michael Rapaport criticize LeBatard's father's qualifications for appearing on his TV show? LeBatard and his people were so ticked off by this and other criticisms that they said something to the effect that Rapaport had an STD. That could be considered defamation, a libel offense right? LeBatard has also claimed that he is a legitimate sports journalist as oppose to other sports talk show guys because he has a journalism degree. I question that, because his antics over the years has lead to his Baseball HOF vote being revoked.
It wasn't "his antics over the years" that got his vote revoked. It was a singular act to show how ridiculous he felt the Hall of Fame voting process was.
Dan Le Batard nailed it and Dan Patrick's explanation proves he's one of the all-time best. Dan Patrick thinks for himself. Unlike the moe moe Colin Cowherd who uses writers, for takes and jokes.
I'm curious if at the end when he says, "Hey got a hot take here. 'Job well done.' " If he's referring to Keyshawn, or LeBatard? Arguments could be made for both sides. Initially, I thought it was in Keshawn's voice w/ sarcastic praise for ignorance - but it could be in Dan's following with a "job well" done as a take artist
This is why all people that look like you get hired and stay on their jobs with poor skills. It was racial, but they get a pass and then White people will start saying this not racism. I hope you take time out and listening to yourself and the framing of explaining how everything isn't always racism. I listened to your choice of words in this video and you supporting him .
If there's anyone I'd suspect of being the least racist it'd be LeBatard. Everybody that's ever worked for Dan says how understanding he is of including culture in everything he does, of listening to others POV....
Honesty is stating both the good and the bad...... dont just mentioned what he failed at, state what he championed at as well and then make you comment ....
I don't think Dan L. even considered race in his comment because if he did, he would have put a disclaimer on the front of it and in hindsight, looks like he was right...
I’ve said everything Dan has said and more. I’ll take it a step further. Everyone who touts Magic as a successful businessman are mistaken. He’s a successful investor. He’s never created a product or service and run a successful company.
Le Batard was right about Magic but wrong about Lynch. It worked with Elway & Bird but it didn't work with Jackson & Millen. I can see why there is skepticism for these kind of moves but I don't like Le Betard's take on this. It works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't, just like it works with the people who work their way up and sometimes it doesn't.
49ers are 6-0 with John Lynch as a GM. Magic Johnson quit on the Lakers after lying to the players, staff, and fans in Los Angeles. Dan brings up horrible examples of guys being hired to run a team. Magic Johnson fucked the lakers up drafting young talent and giving up on them for an aging Lebron.
Sports franchises are businesses, yet neither DP or DLB mention the fact that Magic has a ton of success in the business world. Combine his business acumen with his basketball acumen and it's a good call to bring in Magic. DP & DLB both miss the boat on being short sighted & minded.... again.
I wouldn't call Dan LeBatard a racist, but I would call him a race baiter. He loves to create controversy by getting other people to respond to loaded racial questions, like the Al Campanis incident. Why do you think many people like Jay Bilas, Troy Aikman, Dick Vitale, and so many more hang up on Le Batard and his group.
roger b bro he’s a face, a figure head. A financier. I love Magic but this whole “he’s a good business man” narrative is a JJJJJJJOKE! He’s not running any of his businesses and has NEVER run a business on any level. Stop it
No, Magic has been a successful investor, but he’s not a businessman. What products and/or services has he created, and what companies has he led? NONE. Everything he has “led” has crumbled within a short time span. His stint as Lakers head coach? He didn’t even last one half of a season. His TV show? Canceled within a few months of its announcement. I’ll give him credit for surrounding himself with smart investors, but Magic has never proven to be successful in BUSINESS.
You guys are full of it.last time i looked Magic is worth over 600 million dollars.you don't have to invent shit to be a good businessman, what a stupid thing to say
Hahaha, DL. What goes around comes around. I love when a liberal who nit picks things and uses nonracial comments to accuse people of being racist. Then people use nonracial comments to accuse that person of being a racist.
If anything, Dan is overly critical of white males, & often defends minorities too much. Not to the point of being totally bias, but he often characterized white people as greedy & privileged & minorities as just being misunderstood. I don’t have a problem with that, that’s just his view point. But to call him racist for this statement is lazy
i don't think LeBetard said anything racist, but I would say his critics are bothered by discrediting Magic's potential as a President of Basketball Operations based on a failed late night TV show and short stint as a coach. Magic if for nothing else has been a great business man and executive. President of basketball operations is not a GM or coach. Most Nba fans wouldn't be able to name that person for their favorite team, nor what the job duties are. As we've found out with Phil Jackson and Doc Rivers, great coaches don't always make great GM's, but it is unfair to say failing at one position means you'll fail at others. Secondly as LeBetard pointed out, white men have been jumping ahead of the line purely on privilege for forever, but very few commentators will point that out when it happens. Up until Phil Jackson started stinking up the joint in New York, everyone thought it was a brilliant move and the Lakers missed out. LeBetard pointed that out, that's why you need to listen to the full context and not just a soundbite. However if you never complained about a Larry Bird or a Phil Jackson but all of a sudden you have an issue with Magic skipping ahead, then I can see how that might come across as racist. At the end of the day as much as we want to believe America is a meritocracy, there's also a big element to being rewarded based on privilege and access.
You also cannot take an ex athlete/blowhard, and automatically attach "respected opinion" to any comment uttered from their mouth.. Yes Keyshawn Johnson is part of the media now, but in no way does mean his "opinion" amounts to anything worth more than 2 piles of shit. Keyshawn is a joke. This has always been the case. Cmon Dan Patrick. Keyshawn?
Just because he's famous and beloved doesn't mean he won't be a good GM. Maybe he was not a good coach but who was on that team? Bottom line is Magic is a great basketball mind and I think way more qualified than Mitch was as a GM.
He definitely had much much more than a “couple movie theaters”. But still, yeah, he’s no business man. That’s a joke. He’s a face, a money guy, an investor if you will. He ain’t ran squat
What gets me is, who cares who the Lakers hired. Do you own the Lakers? I don't. I think those who own the team can hire whom they want too. Over qualified, qualified, under qualified - so what.
I don't think it is a coincidence PATRICK always refers to Dan Le Batard as just "Le Batard" (about 20 times), never using Dan - just twice-ish. Yet he will say Jimmer Fredete...
Dan LeBatard and his racist show should be off the air.. .. It is also shameful to use a 'stereo typical' Middle East'ner, his father I guess?, to even be on the show. Why don't we bring back Charlie Chan, and have him pontificate on sports when Michael Kim does sports center.. .. shameful
My point is using a 'stereo typical' middle eastern voice, and only having that person on because he talks funny, he doesn't bring anything of substance to the show. It's like having a stereo typical Chinese man on, who has no real takes, just because he talks with a funny heavy accent. shameful. and quite frankly racist.
I do exactly... using an old stereo type, a labeling it 'funny' is shameful. That person on the show is there only for public fodder, not for any real takes. Ha Ha, the old guy talks funny, ha ha his takes are asinine. ha ha, ha, again shameful
Papi embodies, at least what used to be, the American Dream. An educated self sustained engineer who, along with his equally learned wife, left persecution and possession in Cuba to give his children a better life. The sacrifice is manifest not only in Dan and his brother's successes but in Papi's as an icon on Disney's billion dollar platform.
Dan's take on this is 100% dead on. Amazing how if you see the entire segment and not just the snippet everyone freaks about it's obvious that the Race talk about this is asinine.
His take is 100% but his statement that Elway was the right choice is 0%

Yes Keyshawn Johnson is part of the media now, but in no way does mean his "opinion" amounts to anything worth more than 2 piles of shit. Keyshawn is a joke. This has always been the case. Cmon Dan Patrick. Keyshawn?
Kolakowski
LMAO and magic quit on the lakers abruptly. dude just quits and sucks at everything except playing basketball.
I agree, LeBatard didn't say anything racist... But still don't like the guy.
Just because he's famous and beloved doesn't mean he won't be a good GM. Maybe he was not a good coach but who was on that team? Bottom line is Magic is a great basketball mind and I think way more qualified than Mitch was as a GM.
Kupchak was 100 times the GM Magic was.
He was pretty good as a color commentator/announcer, LeBatard is wrong there, but yah, he sucked at the rest.
Great business man ?couple movie theaters cause he’s already rich and famous. Sucks as bad as MJ and bobcats
He definitely had much much more than a “couple movie theaters”. But still, yeah, he’s no business man. That’s a joke. He’s a face, a money guy, an investor if you will. He ain’t ran squat
I'm tired of people that are not black telling us what is racist to us and what isn't. We cannot think for ourselves e
Hes terrible. Very terrible.
What gets me is, who cares who the Lakers hired. Do you own the Lakers? I don't. I think those who own the team can hire whom they want too. Over qualified, qualified, under qualified - so what.
Dan Le Batard's show is horrendously awful. Worst thing ever.
Joe O'Malley then you are an idiot.
@@dr.johnsuarez2330 When it's bad it is very bad.
Le Batard's take was wrong. Magic is by nature an executive, even in the way he played basketball. He delegates his way to success.
A coach is suppose to, so what? Lol
TheBigTerm so he did analytic study of players while he was playing on the court?
Derek analytics are for people who don't know how to play the game of basketball
that's a fair opinion. i think both yours and dans are fair. whats a little crazy is jumping to calling him racist for disagreeing with you on that
and they tend not to be racially influenced - a black person
I don't think it is a coincidence PATRICK always refers to Dan Le Batard as just "Le Batard" (about 20 times), never using Dan - just twice-ish. Yet he will say Jimmer Fredete...
Cowherd > DP
Dan LeBatard and his racist show should be off the air.. .. It is also shameful to use a 'stereo typical' Middle East'ner, his father I guess?, to even be on the show. Why don't we bring back Charlie Chan, and have him pontificate on sports when Michael Kim does sports center.. .. shameful
frederick gramcko are you saying Dan's dad is from the middle east?
My point is using a 'stereo typical' middle eastern voice, and only having that person on because he talks funny, he doesn't bring anything of substance to the show. It's like having a stereo typical Chinese man on, who has no real takes, just because he talks with a funny heavy accent. shameful. and quite frankly racist.
frederick gramcko YOU DON'T GET THE SHOW...
