Absolutely great that you are promoting not only Mapperton goods but also the local area. Shows just how good a steward you both will be in the future. Great job.
Julie turns into a rose by the inadvertent scratch. They forgot to tell her, that’s where the hybrids come from in Mapperton lore. Lol Luke has good memories of the cottage where he and his new bride lived. Discovering a lot of interesting things. The Fair was fun and all the vendors had wonderful crafts to sell. Nice vlog. Thank you for the invite.😊
When Steve was teaching Julie how to prune the roses, I kept thinking of I Love Lucy. LOL Can just imagine how a Julie & Lucy episode would have been so comical !!
Watching Julie in the garden is like seeing a fish out of water lol I love gardening and would be so chuffed to have professional gardeners helping me with my gardens! Mapperton gardens are SO lovely 😍😍😍😍😍
Luke is a goofball and we love it. Love seeing you guys interact with each other and just have fun together. So much fun to see Julie and Luke and all of their friends on the estate. Do wish to see the Earl and Countess a bit more as they are also terrific fun and wonderfully knowledgeable.
I'm so happy for you, Julie. I know how much of yourself you are investing into the estate, and making it work for itself, for you and your husband when you take the title, and your children. The house is beautiful, and I'm sure it will come the time when all your dreams of making it sparkle will come true.
If you watch travel shows, around Christmas the little towns in Europe ,have Christmas Markets. Everything is decorated with fairy lights, there’s music and food concessions of roasting chestnuts, hot chocolate, etc. so it’s all very magical.
The cottage is so lovely. I agree with the cushions for the window seat. I would love to see books on the bookshelves. And some beautiful ornaments to make it feel more like home. I’m sure you could find some beautiful things at antique fairs to dress the cottage. Love to you all from Sydney, Oz, for a fabulous Christmas! ❤️
If you have wild grapevines you are cutting back, you can make wonderful grapevine wreaths out of them and sell them at the fairs! Um, about the Cluster-flies, Fly twists are the way to go. Hang them in corners of the windows behind the curtains, and they'll be less noticable. As for the damp walls: You will need to dig the house out six feet away from the hillside to get airflow, and you can then have a flagged or graveled walkway around the house to the backdoor. You can put stone up the hillside to make a sort of rock wall to hold it back, or use a bulldozer to take the hillside down to where you want it. I saw that you had one you can use to do that. Just some suggestions from prior experience. The cottage suggestions: cushions on the window seat in a solid grey to set off the curtains. Nobody would want to "curl up with a book" on that hard seat. In the sitting room, the candle sticks may pose a danger if you put candles in them, so put a lamp in the corner there instead. and some fake fruit and fake greenery in that large white oval dish will make the room less bare. In the bedrooms, it's useful to put an empty dish, tray, or large bowl on bureau or bedside table which will give people a place to put their little things like keys, spare change and little things so they don't make a mess or get lost.
In regards to the damp in the Holiday Let - If you take the soil away from the walls it should eventually dry out. You could dig a drainage ditch around the house or along that one wall say 30 cms deep and 30 cms wide and take the ditch away from the house a few metres. Then bury some agricultural drainage pipe which has been wrapped in geotextile fabric and then put gravel in the ditch and place the pipe on top then fill it up with gravel and cover the pipe with gravel to get the water away from the house.
Bruce Springsteen’s song “Jack of all trades” comes to mind when I think about all of you members of the Matterton community, doing everything with such love and enthusiasm! Thank you for sharing❤️
Oh! You have kitties! Julie, I have noticed that people LOVE it when someone's pet is also in the picture. A reporter on PBS News always has a cat sleeping or rolling on the couch. They found out that more people watched her reporting during the pandemic when her cat was behind her sleeping or playing on the couch than when she appeared in the halls of Congress or anywhere else! So now, she regularly reports from home with the kitty behind her, usually on the weekend section of the news! ! LOL! Just a tip! So if you are doing bedrooms, put a kitty on the bed, or two dachshund puppies playing on the living room carpet, etc. Do you have a loyal corgi or Collie or sheepdog who follows you about as your walk the fence line, etc? With elderly parents, small dogs are safer. I just love the idea of Ye Olde Yutletide Fayer! I hope local school kids will come to sing carols too.
The fair was quite interesting. I love handmade items ! They are much more personable . Anyone can purchase mass produced items , but handmade is special!
That Christmas Bazar was fantastic- a great way to highlight talented folks in the community. Julie and the rose bush is like Lucy at the chocolate factory. Thanks for the tour of the cottage Luke- what a beautiful place.
So happy the Christmas fair was so successful! I probably would have bought something from every stall and rationalized that I'd give it to someone for Christmas. Really loved the blankets made from recycled bottles!
Congratulations on a successful Christmas Bazzar! About "the damp" in the cottage, have you looked into a vapor barrier for the wall? There's permanent adhesive types that work well (at least in the States.)
One of Julie's wonderful traits is her intense curiosity. And Curiosity about almost everything. Look at the episode on the loos. After Luke really got into it, Julie couldn't stand it, and she was off to check all the fabulous loos at Mapperton. You guys are the best.
Congratulations! I live vicariously thru videos of Xmas markets, as I work retail and will probably never get to experience Xmas markets across the pond until I retire🥰🥰🥰🥰. You did a tremendous job! Thank you for sharing!
Watched this when it was released and thrice since! My only taste of Christmas as I’ve had Covid for almost 3 weeks. Thank you for this video and for having this little event at Mapperton! ♥️🎄♥️
Love this edition! I know this is a tad late, but hoping this reaches y'all. Try butcherblock counters in the cottage. I have a cabin and we made butcherblock counters from wood the was already on our property. Works wonderful. and once sealed, cleans up like a dream, long lasting and durable! We had a local craftsman make them and helped. We rent out when we are not there and 3 yrs, no issues with the counteracts yet. Hope this finds y'all and thank you for sharing the lovely memories! 🧡🌿🌺
I would absolutely love a sit down story time with the earl and Countess and to hear their love story :-) sending love to you and yours from Orlando Florida
Julie, Luke, Stephan and Claire - loved this episode. Can you please please place ALL links in the descriptions please. Although Christmas is done, I wish to make purchases… links please!! Wish I could attend… greetings from San Francisco California….
Rose Yoga! What fun! As a horticulturist, I enjoyed the goofiness of the pruning time - but you'd cut from outside in on a rose like that. You should also be wearing gloves, as I've heard of rose thorn (prickles) punctures becoming infected. Let alone worrying about one's eyesight. Safety first!
That fair looked like something straight out of a Hallmark Christmas movie. In fact, maybe a couple of them could be filmed there in the future! Very well done to you both and all the employees! 👏
🎄MERRY CHRISTMAS🎄 to everyone at Mapperton. Lovely, lovely 🥰 video with Julie and hubby and all the staff at this gorgeous place. I hope that one day a can go visit all of you at Mapperton.
The market looked like so much fun! Loved all the Dorset made products and local small businesses that you and Luke support,Julie! I lived in England for a long time before returning to America and all ur vlogs in Dec have made me miss it so much.
Yessss! Finally. Been waiting to see this! So excited for you guys! Oh and BTW, if you're looking for people to buy presents for...ahem...I would give someone's arm for one of those recycled blankets or some honey lol. You are so lucky Julie to have all that at your finger tips...then again maybe it's not lucky having it so close....I'd have spent a fortune! lol. Congrats again and thanks for showing us!
Hello from Arizona, love your show. So happy that you are all going back to Christmas traditions and hand made are the best gifts. Lock downs are never fun, although here in Arizona we never really had serious lock downs. Beautiful over there. Have a Merry Christmas and thanks again for sharing all that beauty with us to watch.
Fantastic!! Congratulations on the Christmas Faire. Everything looked amazing!!! I’d love to stay in the Garden Cottage - it’s lovely! Happy Christmas to you all!!
This is so exciting! I'm so happy you and Luke were able to have the Mapperton Christmas Fair!! Well done Charlotte on organizing the wonderful stalls! I spent a lot of imaginary money at each one. Claire's stall was really interesting.I just "Liked" on Facebook.I'll be checking out the website very soon! The cottage is lovely. The views are delightful. I love learning about the roses from Steve! Love from Vermont
Wow what a beautiful Holiday Bazaar Julie, Luke and the team! Bravo to having such great vendors and artisans. I think you could very well have permits for more than 800 people as you have enough parking space. Have you ever thought of hosting other festivals in the future? I attended a harvest festival here in Minnesota in sep where they not only had amusements for kids along with food vendors, but also did the Pumpkin Smashing with a crane from way high. Perhaps similar festivals would be suitable for Mapperton. Thank you for yet another treat of a video!
Could just live at the Country Cottage! So sweet and looks so comfortable. It may need a few things done but not too hard to do and it is wonderful. But this is not the point of the Garden Cottage and is meant to be used by those visiting and weddings etc. Lovely by itself! The Roses are in great hands! Very well done. Loved seeing how the pruning was done. The Christmas fair looked like such fun! It reminded me of the Grapevines. They cling to you and you do not need to stand still very long as they seem to swirl around you! lol Thanks for leaving links below! For all your blogs and all the fun you bring with it all.
That certainly was one clingy rose! I loved that colorful rug at the market, I’d not be able to resist it. I’m usually exellent at snooping out great finds at markets, thriftshops and boutiques for Christmas but this year I’ve YET to find anything in my city that grabbed my attention; what to do?! Lovely to see the cottage you lived in before moving into the great house. Very charming, and nice to know somewhere is warm and snug as I’m writing this all wrapped up in my Highland plaid with lambskin pulsewarmers to boot. Best Christmas Cheers to you, the Montague family and all! ❤️🌲💫🕯🥂☃️
For the cottage sampness,: have you tried a dehumdifier? Crystials or a gel is used to absorb moisture into a container, sort of a reverse swamp coooler.
Christmas fair looked wonderful.. congratulations. I'm not sure simply repainting over damp walls is the answer to the gardeners cottage. The damp really should be treated. 🙃
That was so much fun just loved your Xmas market love how it’s in the country at the Manor grounds love the vibe and the stalls were fabulous homegrown creative😍👌So much fun to watch you both Luke and Julie you make me smile your vlogs are the best😍😍❤️❤️👌👌
Merry Christmas to you ! The fair is so perfect it makes me jealous, and I am seldom jealous. We had a portable dehumidifier in our basement for the health of our children, And used it many years after they were grown up. They work really well. Happy New Year as well ! 🎄😇😇😇😇 🎄

Absolutely great that you are promoting not only Mapperton goods but also the local area. Shows just how good a steward you both will be in the future. Great job.
In this episode, Julie reminds me of comedienne Lucille Ball, from 1950s "I Love Lucy," American series, while she's pruning the roses.
Love the interaction between Julie and Luke. Not to mention Luke has such GREAT hair. :-)
We went to the Christmas Fayre and thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't wait until the next one ❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
This is Bonnie Fr Phoenix Arizona l watch a ll the time every day all day

Chuffed? Is that 🤔 excited? Curious, always looking for new words, lol. Like that one. Ty! 🌺🌿🧡

What about a cushion for the window seat great place to bird watch, read, or pray, contemplate

Julie pruning the rose bush is actually doing yoga, LOL!
Luke's hair momentarily looking like Boris Johnson. YIKES!!!!
Julie has got better comic timing than most professionals, and the old man is a pretty good foil.
Claire’s art is wonderful!
In regards to the damp in the Holiday Let - If you take the soil away from the walls it should eventually dry out. I think it's fair to say Mapperton was waiting for you and your enthusiasm. Have a lovely Christmas.
old roses varieties are usually single flower in a bud but the new roses are generally two flower buds, more full than the older.

I felt like I was transported right there all the way from Texas! I love this channel - it brings me such peace and joy! God bless!
That Christmas Bazar was fantastic- a great way to highlight talented folks in the community. Julie and the rose bush is like Lucy at the chocolate factory.

Those blankets were beautiful.
Congratulations on a successful Christmas Bazzar!
About "the damp" in the cottage, have you looked into a vapor barrier for the wall? There's permanent adhesive types that work well (at least in the States.)
Or stud it out away from the damp wall a bit - even just an inch or so. You could then fix a damp-proof barrier to the back of the new wall.
Wisconsinite here. I think we need to play a drinking game while watching Julie. Every time she says "literally" we take a drink. :)
This English Christmas are quaint they sell almost everything not only Christmas trees or decoration even tea towels how cutious
So glad the Mapperton boutique was a success. And the weather cooperated too. As y'all say, it was brilliant. 😄👍
One of Julie's wonderful traits is her intense curiosity. And Curiosity about almost everything. Look at the episode on the loos. After Luke really got into it, Julie couldn't stand it, and she was off to check all the fabulous loos at Mapperton. You guys are the best.
Julie and the rose bush was way too funny. I laughed so hard. Hope your hand heals quickly.
Congratulations! I live vicariously thru videos of Xmas markets, as I work retail and will probably never get to experience Xmas markets across the pond until I retire🥰🥰🥰🥰. You did a tremendous job! Thank you for sharing!

Thoroughly engrossed by your enthusiasm for the future of The Mapperton Estate. I will definitely make this a future holiday destination. Thank you x

The grounds man must have a awesome job working there
🎄MERRY CHRISTMAS🎄 to everyone at Mapperton. Lovely, lovely 🥰 video with Julie and hubby and all the staff at this gorgeous place. I hope that one day a can go visit all of you at Mapperton.
What a fantastic Christmas market!!! 🎄 We’re going to miss Steve! 🌳🌷🌼🌻🌲
What? Steve is leaving?
Beautiful cottage! We will consider it as an option when we travel to England again!
Always wear gloves when pruning the roses! I had some nasty blisters once!

We need to know the bed linen source! 😭 haha
Se ve un cedro de Líbano impresionante. Sería muy bueno verlo de cerca
You could tank the wall thats below ground level, and that would cure the damp issue.
Could just live at the Country Cottage! So sweet and looks so comfortable. It may need a few things done but not too hard to do and it is wonderful. But this is not the point of the Garden Cottage and is meant to be used by those visiting and weddings etc. Lovely by itself!

I love that garden cottage! ❤️ it would be a perfect house to live in!
I'm thrilled to bits Julie. Another video xxx
For the cottage sampness,: have you tried a dehumdifier? Crystials or a gel is used to absorb moisture into a container, sort of a reverse swamp coooler.
Congrats on the Christmas fair!
The fair looked wonderful. I know it took a lot of work to pull this off. Congrats Julie and Luke and staff!

Christmas fair looked wonderful.. congratulations.

Merry Christmas to you ! The fair is so perfect it makes me jealous, and I am seldom jealous. We had a portable dehumidifier in our basement for the health of our children, And used it many years after they were grown up. They work really well. Happy New Year as well ! 🎄😇😇😇😇 🎄
I would love to see the different China patterns you have at Mapperton. I love English China.
Julie, I love all of your marketing ideas. What about bee boxes somewhere distant on the property and produce and sell Mapperton honey :-) sending love to you and yours from Orlando Florida

Is the family Bentley still in the Family?
If yes, can you do a segment on the history of the car, and maybe showing a country drive in the car? Btw, I have a 1959 Bentley S1 RHD, which was originally owned by a whiskey distillers company conglomerate from Scotland.
One of the companies they owned was Johnny Walker.
