  • Hi everyone,
Welcome or welcome back to my channel. My name is Jess and I love doing DIY, making clothes in a "simply but pretty" way.
In today's video, I'm going to share with you how I made my double face wool jacket. This is my first time working with double face fabric. So I've tried to use a very simple and basic techniques for it. I hope you will like it and try it out soon.
To make this DIY, please check out some of my basic information below:
    - Sewing machine: Brother Auto Tension
    - Material: 2m of double face wool fabric
    - My body measurements: 80-66-92 (bust-waist-hip). I'm 165cm and usually wear Small size.
I learn sewing by myself. So I would love to know more sharing from you guys to improve my skill.
Please join me in this sewing journey by being a part of it here www.jessdangdi...

So I followed these instructions and I have a few thoughts that might be useful for anyone trying to make this. First, thank you so much for this free tutorial ! I think it would work really well for someone who has the same body type as Jess. Alas, I am shorter and curvier, which made the proportions all wrong. Since the armhole is based on the bust, it was wayyyy too low for me. Also there was too much fabric on the back, and some unsightly folds around the shoulders, because of the wrong armholes. The whole thing was very unfitting. I ended up copying a coat I own, and it was much better (that is the technique I would always recommend for beginners). I did use your technique for drafting the collar though, and it turned out decent. Thanks again !

Hi, so as a fashion designer, I would like to give you a few important tips when pattern drafting or trying to copy a pattern. First thing you MUST have is your own bodice block drafted with your accurate measurements, from your shoulder width, bust, waist and precise armhole depth. These measurements are extremely important because getting them wrong can mess up the fit of your outfit. Secondly, when using your bodice block to copy a pattern, only make alterations because of the style. For instance if the neck width of a pattern is 3 inches, use the same 3 inches. Don't worry about the fit because of your accurate shoulder measurement. If the style requires a 1 inch drop in your armhole, copy same. It will fit cos you're using your measurements. So I have made this jacket for my male clients and they love it cos I used their precise measurements. For length, I always work with the shoulder to top hip measurement for this style of jacket and bomber jackets. It doesn't matter wether you're slim, plus size, tall or short; cos the only important rule in pattern drafting is use your measurements.

Hey Jess, I really love your videos. Thanks to you I've made so many dresses for my girlfriend.
Could you, maybe someday, make some more jackets tutorials? Like simple work jackets, or fully lined varsity jackets maybe? You make the best tutorials and there are no good videos that show how to make even a simple jacket

    It looks so good 🥺💛
I bought a jacket a month ago, it felt very soft and warm at first, but I quickly got in count how bad quality it was because, despite being expensive, now is full of lint and I'm sure it won't last long 😢
I felt very regretful because of how much I spent on it, but you brought me a smile sharing this!
I'm really trying to do this, ty ty ty 😊❤

Very beautiful. I wonder if it’s more handy to first connect the sleeve in the armhole while the side seams are still open, since the sleevehead is so flat and then afterwards close the sleeve seam and the bodice seam… like a loose shirt is sewn. It might be easier to handle

Hi Jess thank you for the tutorial of a lovely jacket.. I have got some double sided wool fabric and making a jacket for the first time in my life..🤩 i’m watching your tutorial over and over again to learn. If you don’t mind me asking question, would you use topstitch thread, not for decoration but to make the coat stronger and last longer. I don’t want the thread to be visible but want more secure. Or normal guterman polyester thread enough..?
