For me they chose this title track coz it completely represent the whole RED VELVET. It is not red it is not velvet it's the complete mixture of the two. Hence, the concept Hope and Tragedy. This is also their 3rd album, the 1st is RED, 2nd is VELVET and the 3rd one is RED VELVET.
Not everyone may like the title track coz it's the total opposite of what we expect from the teasers and such. But that's rv they always surprise us with their uniqueness, they don't follow the trend which makes them more admirable and interesting. Thanks for the reaction. @@marem292good thing i didnt put some expectations in my head about this comeback even if i saw the teasers that hinting a velvet comeback, i didnt let my guard down and just listened to the song analyze what concept this is and i concluded that this is Red Velvet concept and i dont like it, I LOVE IT.
Omg that makes so much sense, because I was thinking knock knock feels more eerie and velvety than chill kill. But you’re right! Chill kill represents the red velvet we know, the versatility to go any direction, a combination of both red and velvet! Thank you for pointing it out, my 3rd eye has been opened! 💖💛💙💚💜
I have a theory that Chill Kill tells the story of five sisters (or people close to them) who are held captive or suffering abuse and violence, and one fateful night Wendy decides to put an end to it, climbs out of the basement at dawn and kills the culprit. Yeri is like the younger sister and Irene the older one, Irene is protective and Yeri is probably the younger one, the one who least understands the situation (I think). After the murders, Joy is very frightened and traumatised by the situation, but the five of them decide to clean up the crime scene. Joy decides to go to the police with the evidence in hand (the bloody stone) but Seulgi won't let her, and they argue. In the end, they decide to set fire to the house, take their things and leave, hoping never to be in that place again. But reality is different and all that fire has caught the attention of the police, who arrest them, but okay, they're together, nothing can shake them. They go to jail united and free from the evil one. That's why the song is so heavy, and at the same time so liberating. They've been through untold traumas, but in the end all that blood and plot was a chilling kill.
I saw someone say that they are not being arrested but found, since they were held captive they were probably missing for years, that's why Irene is wearing wings like in a children's costume and Yeri her uniform, it's been years since they were kidnapped and now they free themselves
i read in another video that their outfits and emotions at the end represent their characters: irene is quite and doesn’t show emotions to protect the girls and she can only sleep by imagining a fairy that saves her that’s why she’s not showing emotions and wearing wings seulgi kinda rebellious and escapes the reality by music that’s why she’s carrying her guitar joy character always anxious and see the world with one eye (flat no depth) she doesn’t want to see the reality and that explains the eyepatch yeri is the youngest and she wanna grow up and find love and have a family and that’s why she’s wearing school uniform with the veil wendy after she killed the guy she lost her bright energy and she became obsessed with responsibility that’s why she’s with yeri
Seulgi said on Weverse Live. The man is the violent father of the five sisters. They are locked in a room and celebrating Yeri's birthday. Wendy kills the man and they erase the traces. Joy takes a stone, to the police but Seulgi stops her. Wendy has lost her smile. Yeri is trapped in her previous memories and Irene brings her back to reality. They set fire to the house and free themselves from the restraints that oppressed them. Soon the police came. The dance means happy memories and freedom. + The trailer means their guilty. (I used translator so this can be awkward.)
Seulgi said in her live that the guy in the photo is their father. Five of them are sisters. When Wendy killed her abusive father, each of them tried to take the blame and stop each other from confessed to the police. In the end, they just cover each other. They are for each other :')
this is definitely a song that you shouldn't pause because the song goes into many directions and you don't know what's gonna happen next, and when you finally understand the song, it suddenly goes to another direction 😂 this probably the best red velvet song for me
The hook is more bright than expected, but hearing them explain the reasoning got me totally on board. I love the juxtaposition and how triumphant the chorus feels
Chill kill - absolutely Red+Velvet concept This song selected by girls themselves as title song over "knock knock" becoz they think "Chill Kill" is the most suitable to rv concept Nowadays almost all music(Girl Kpop) provide girl crush, cyber pop, dark side. Only RedVelvet persist in their music
even if they chose knock knock, it mostly wouldn't be girl crush. knock knock has an eerie, dark and creepy feeling. chill kill also is quiet eerie and dark. so yeah, they're still doing the "dark side" concept with a happy/kinda bright sound. knock knock could make a good pre release though

After a couple listens, this song might be one of my fav title tracks from them. It’s a grower for some, but is it really red velvet if it follows your expectations lol. It truly is a perfect mix of red and velvet and I like it a lot 😌
the song was Described as a bright Tragedy and it's exactly that it's not only a dark song with no meaning. It has a dark side but also a bright one.basically chill kill is like an event that breaks the silence and effects your life and it becomes like a tragedy so the song is about finding hope throughout the chill kill that allowed you to learn and grow....it's is so unique its just a song that screams red velvet like joy said and the whole album is too good
story is about the rigors and confines of training, discovering the price of performing and a sometimes brutal industry, attempting to escape while making peace with their inner turmoils, then finding they will always be a family dedicated to their art but also burdened with the fact that to express their true selves is to be trapped in the spotlight.
I thought the chorus will be more 'dark', but like just you said, it's actually 'brighter', even the instrumental is. That Joy's voice in the bridge is just so beautiful.
Red Velvet choose this song as their title track because their album is about hope amid trajedy. Among the songs, this song both portray hope and trajedy.
So the most prevalent theory for this is that--the girls have been held mostly if not kidnapped, they were raised in captivity. Because in the first scene they were cleaning up the room and seulgi was dragging a large chair in front where they sat down pretty deferentially in front of the chair like the chair was for someone to sit on and vet / judge them. Also notice how they're dressed in really similar clothes--all of the girls are either long haired, have bangs, exposed their collarbones and are dressed in white and light blue, which are usually connotations for something of innocence with that man standing behind them. If you take a closer look at the room they were in, its also cluttered heavily with a lot of mix and match items, from guitars to mattresses--clearly the girls have been living in there together, even if a lot of their things are dated (joy's camera). They literally have 0 connection to the outside world. Also notice how they keep shushing each other--the motif of silence is often indicative of those oppressed and suppressed, and usually captors don't like their victims or captives to be noisy because that would expose them when they're meant to be somewhat of a secret. Yeri gets nervous when its wendy's turn--all their smile actually disappear when they hear the call from their captor (the part where its like a strike of thunder aka reality hitting them in the face), and they're so worried because they know what might happen they actually eavesdrop at the door. the next scene they stream out nervously from the side--which doesn't even look like a door it almost looks guised like a window (but we know its a door, and the glass is frosted so you can't see in nor out). they walk out from their enclosed reality into finding out that wendy has murdered their captor. From there on the consequences of their trauma and witnessing the murder starts to hit. Wendy becomes depressed, loses her spark, reverts to wearing the clothing that she usually wears whilst in captivity, seulgi wants to go out, but can't because she's terrified of what's outside, yeri doesn't know what to do because she sees everything that's happening but is too young and helpless to help, and joy--copes with the most visible coping mechanism, changing her outerwear, going out multiple times and having piercings. They decided not to talk abt it--esp when they were cleaning up as co-conspirators...but now its coming to bite them right in the ass. THeir relationships breakdown, yeri lashes out at irene who tries to live a normal life within her captive box since she's the oldest and the MOST used to that routine (it corresponds directly with her trailer, where she sleeps, dreams and wakes, then repeats--almost like a routine), joy and seulgi fight over going out because seulgi wants to go out but can't because of her fear and is trying to restrict joy who doesn't appreciate it and it tears them all completely apart. Once like sisters, they were now more like strangers living in a box without their captor, captives of their own selves. They realize that they can't live like this together anymore--hence why all of them look out of the window and the date 13 is circled--that's the day that the mv debuts, and the day that the girl debuts themselves out into the world finally stepping away from captivity and venturing out into the world on their own. The scene then cuts to them awkwardly together on the bus with gasoline with them. They're back together, but they've grown so apart because of the murder that they can't reconcile with each other. They're almost like strangers. seulgi has coped with her music, joy has coped with socializing and going out, irene with her routines, and yeri has finally gone to school (she's actually wearing a school uniform!)...and they decide they can't do this any longer, and have come together to deal with the trauma they've been avoiding. The house that they were once held captive in is full of creeping vines and moss, a testament to how long they've let this fester, and they each take away something that's of significant worth to them. Joy-- her handheld camera. To represent moving on, she puts on an eyepatch, a symbol of refusing to look back at their past through the eye that has seen lots of trauma and bad memories, but instead to look through the eye that has seen good memories all this while--when she filmed all their happy memories. Irene -- the wings, for her loss of childhood as the oldest captive, and her desire to protect the others Seulgi -- her guitar, her music that held her together Wendy -- the bandage on her hand, a representative of the murder she did that changed their lives Yeri -- the veil, which represents her desire whilst captive to be able to grow up. They finally have accepted their trauma and they've never been as close to each other as before--a story of how acceptance can heal those that hurt the most. Then in a show of defiance and acceptance of themselves, whilst being hunted down for the murder since reality finally catches up to them, they dance that dance that they so happily choreographed for themselves whilst in captivity (as seen in the reels that joy filmed the dated old quality of them being happy together) and weren't able to do because after being physically free they were not emotional and mentally free from the trauma because they hadn't accept things yet. And when they finally have, they're finally celebrating out loud, no longer needing to be quite and have overcome their tribulations, coming back together, finally happy to be close and not so far apart from each other.
The most common theory I've seen about the music video is that the girls are sisters who live a secluded life in fear under an abusive parent figure (the dark shadow behind them), during Yeri's birthday Wendy kills the parent figure and they all decide to hide the crime. The sisters find themselves going through hard times because of the guilt and wanting to leave and run away but ultimately decide to stick together till the end, so they burn the house down with the body to leave the bad memories behind, but when leaving they take some of the evidence with them and somehow the police finds out and gets to them at the end. But since they're together they believe things will be okay
members say that actually knock knock (b-side song) is the tittle track for this album. but, the members love chill kill and they vote chill kill as tittle track. maybe chill kill is close and fit to the versatile concept
One theory that I heard, which makes a lot of sense to me, is that the chorus is jarring, because it was the song they used to sing together in order to endure this abusive situation. It's uplifting and hopeful, which is in stark contrast to their reality. At first listen, I was a bit confused as well and would've liked a darker chorus to fit the rest of the song, but I actually really like this explanation.
The “don’t think about tomorrow” part is too happy, it throws me off every time but I think I’m getting more used to it, i still wish it was different bc I like all the other parts of the song. It’s a very Red Velvet song tho
At first I was very confused by the chorus, because it sounded too happy in comparison to the rest of the song. But the more I listen to the song the more I think it fits. The chorus has a slight darkness too it even though it sounds the way it does. Idk, I'm not good at describing things.
This is the Red Velvet that we know they are not following the trend they are making their own trend. If you want Velvet or girl crush concept listen to other gg’s, that concept is now common every other groups releases that kind of music.
Not yet have a detailed MV analysis but if only talking the story plot, think the man in photo maybe their father or someone who kidnapped the girls, with violence issue. Wendy killed him accidently at beginning, girls tried to cover and escape but get caught finally.
Honestly, I always thought Joy's voice is a bit nasally in RV's title tracks but she sound super good here especially in "until the end of time" I was blown away by that part
@Hadeel998me You're actually not far off. The entire video is a metaphor for Lee Soo Man's removal from SM by his own family. RV's production team was making a statement with this one. How they managed to sneak this concept by SM's board of directors I have NO idea. But it's brilliant.
My theory is, they are kidnapped by a man and they were put in the basement. On Yeri's birthday, they want to celebrate it but they want to keep it quiet, so that the man wont caught them doing so. Unfortunately the man are there upstairs and Wendy trying to check on that man herself and ask the others to keep quiet. When the girls heard nothing afterwards, they go upstairs to see what happened and they found blood and glass shattered. Joy is the first one who saw the man died and turns out Wendy is the one who kill him using the big rock. Then, then they try to clear all things. Joy is traumatic as she is the first one who see the dead body. Seulgi try to stop Joy from either bring the rock to the police or bury the evidence. Yeri is lost in her thoughts and Irene try to calm her down. Turns out they already plan to leave the place on 13th and the scene in the bus is what they expected to be. They not plan to kill the man at the first place, but it end up that way. So, they decide to get out of that place and burn the house with the dead body. They happy as they already left that place but the police caught them. They don't care about it as they already free from that man, so that's their happy ending
The way I see it, the red in between the velvet (the cborus) is finding happiness in each other even though they've been something terrible. Wbich is why I liked it so much lol
At first I was confused too. As usual, you can't listen to SM songs just once, you have to listen to them several times until you are immersed in the song
Seulgi said the album trailer represents the post MV story... The guilt and weight of killing their abusive father Reading the character descriptions helps a lot to understand the storyline
there is some theory said that all the members are sisters and they are in a toxic relationship with that man in the photo like their parents/relatives. that man is toxic, he locked the girls like in a secret room and watched them. at that time they celebrate yeri's bday and wendy kill that man, all the girls covered wendy but then wendy, joy, and yeri had a panic attack then at the end they accept everything bcs they became theirselves tho without that man
They just keep avoiding going more heavy on the velvet side for the title track?? It's been how many brighter title tracks now?? It was such a great opportunity for a comeback like that with this being their first full album in a minute and also the teasers and trailer were totally giving that vibe, like... I don't even hate this song, but it's just like meh whatever, not what I expected, moving on...
The video is believe based on a true story of a man kidnap 5 women and lock them in his basement(?), his joy is video taped them or sth like that, the oldest woman is 53 and there is 2 girl of 14. At first I don’t like this song, but after reading the theory somehow I feel emotion while listen to this

I looove the album..is awosome...so magical and theatrical in some way..lovw it so much.
members say that actually knock knock (b-side song) is the tittle track for this album. but, the members love chill kill and they vote chill kill as tittle track. maybe chill kill is close and fit to the versatile concept
damn, I need to watch the recap of the cb live yesterday... I was in office :(
I love this song and mv so much.
this song is about them.how they overcome all the obstacles & survive together for this happy ending (comeback)
Joy’s high note is just 🔥
I love Red Velvet ❤
Best Bridge of 2023
The song is pretty catchy, and the story they tell in the music video is also intriguing.
Joy vocals 🎉
Their b-side tracks of this album is really really good... Check that too please.
The “don’t think about tomorrow” part is too happy, it throws me off every time but I think I’m getting more used to it, i still wish it was different bc I like all the other parts of the song. It’s a very Red Velvet song tho
Red Velvet (레드벨벳) - Dingo Killing Voice
I love this song!
Chill Kill is precisely the duality of hope in the midst of darkness
The confusion on his face after the chorus is my expression when i heard for the first time this song 😂
At first I was very confused by the chorus, because it sounded too happy in comparison to the rest of the song. But the more I listen to the song the more I think it fits. The chorus has a slight darkness too it even though it sounds the way it does. Idk, I'm not good at describing things.
You're gonna love underwater
It's bright. But sad....
This is Chill(Red) +Kill(Velvet) =Chill Kill=Red Velvet.
For me this is the most perfect RED VELVET concept song of em❤
Red velvet so good on making concepts they made murder sound cute
the mv lore is the darkest one they ever done ngl
This is the Red Velvet that we know they are not following the trend they are making their own trend. If you want Velvet or girl crush concept listen to other gg’s, that concept is now common every other groups releases that kind of music.
I'm so absorbed by the music video I keep forgetting to look at Aaron's reaction lol
I'm here for them❤
My girls finally got caught after all their crimes
they don't deserve it!
Your Honor, they had compelling reasons.
Not yet have a detailed MV analysis but if only talking the story plot, think the man in photo maybe their father or someone who kidnapped the girls, with violence issue.
Wendy killed him accidently at beginning, girls tried to cover and escape but get caught finally.
I'm sure it wasn't accidental...
THIS IS SO RED VELVET❤
This song is by far the best description of RED and VELVET 💯💅🔥✨
Honestly, I always thought Joy's voice is a bit nasally in RV's title tracks but she sound super good here especially in "until the end of time" I was blown away by that part
The song 🤯🤯💯
The MV 🤯🤯💯
The video makes a LOT more sense once your figure out what it's actually about.
For me, it’s a goodbye video and move on to a next stage. How about you?
@Hadeel998me You're actually not far off.
The entire video is a metaphor for Lee Soo Man's removal from SM by his own family.
RV's production team was making a statement with this one. How they managed to sneak this concept by SM's board of directors I have NO idea.
But it's brilliant.
Actually, i love this song!
When the last formation like feel my rythm era❤🎉💋 too much theory👻
What a track !! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Right? The hook is very bright,But i love it❤
the song is brighther than I expected but it's very RED VELVET. the chorus is red and the other parts are velvet
I honestly thought this wasn't going to be a good song because of their recent song birthday, i was disappointed. But this song is really good
What a MV !!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
dingo music released Red Velvet KILLING VOICE
Our Vampires got caught now
I'm waiting for your reaction about Red Velvet Killing Voice
No power up is far from chill kill damn😂😂😂
Story about hope and Tragedy.
Red velvet dingo killing voice is already out.
Their 3rd Album "Chill Kill" was INSANE.
You should react to the album, a lot of the songs go a lot with your velvet style
They don't care about it as they already free from that man, so that's their happy ending
the TT wasn’t one of my favorites but the b-sides are seriously so incredible so i’m excited to see you react to them :)
Please react to the teasers without the sound because their trailer and teaser is very different from the music video concept it self
The way I see it, the red in between the velvet (the cborus) is finding happiness in each other even though they've been something terrible. Wbich is why I liked it so much lol
At first I was confused too. As usual, you can't listen to SM songs just once, you have to listen to them several times until you are immersed in the song
The album it's a 10 out of 10 🤞🏻
Seulgi said the album trailer represents the post MV story... The guilt and weight of killing their abusive father
Reading the character descriptions helps a lot to understand the storyline
there is some theory said that all the members are sisters and they are in a toxic relationship with that man in the photo like their parents/relatives. that man is toxic, he locked the girls like in a secret room and watched them. at that time they celebrate yeri's bday and wendy kill that man, all the girls covered wendy but then wendy, joy, and yeri had a panic attack then at the end they accept everything bcs they became theirselves tho without that man
The choruss is too bright than I thought wkkwk
That's SM Entertainment they're burning lol
The mv is a story of 5 sisters
Yes power up inst
Seperti biasanya, SM merilis lagu/album yang sangat mencerminkan instrumen idolnya
I thought the drop would match the MV and be a little bit darker but they decided to make it bright and it was jarring.
몇년도 영상인가요>?
This was like when peekaboo and psycho had a baby
🤢
my theory is red velvet is finally going to jail after killing many person through their past mv lol
Why does this song sounds like a goodbye song 😭
DONT SAY THAT
The video is believe based on a true story of a man kidnap 5 women and lock them in his basement(?), his joy is video taped them or sth like that, the oldest woman is 53 and there is 2 girl of 14. At first I don’t like this song, but after reading the theory somehow I feel emotion while listen to this
Please react to “Kiss of life - Bad news”.
Please react to viviz untie performance
please react to viviz Maniac MV and untie Performance videos
