  • Hey guys!
    Join Darwin (Darwin On The Trail) and me for an epic adventure in Nepal! In Part 1 we fly to Katmandu, explore the city, fly to Lukla the most dangerous airport in the world, and trek from Lukla to Gokyo Lakes. In the upcoming Part 2 we will trek from Gokyo Lakes, up and over Chola Pass, and on to Everest Base Camp eventually climbing Kala Patthar for a breathtaking view of Everest.
    Enjoy!

    Having done many treks in Nepal ( here’s a secret Manaslu is the best..just tell anyone ) I really enjoyed your videos but I have to say you were very very lucky with your lack of acclimatisation which could have gone horribly wrong. I am off to Gokyo in November ( no clouds , great views but more people ) . I will acclimatising for a day at Namche and again at Machermo. You guys are half my age but reality is AMS can hit the young and fit as much if not more than the old like myself ! anyway enjoyed the video !

      Thanks for watching and the tip on Manaslu! In hind sight we should have taken an extra day to climatize in Namche so we'll definitely keep that in mind for future trips.

    I did that trek in 1980. My lead Sherpa was named Natimba Sherpa too. He was with the first woman on Everest. I had an encounter with a Yeti while there and Natimba turned white as a sheet when I told him that. He was a smoker and didn’t use oxygen when he climbed. It sure has built up since I was there. There was a one room tea house at Gokyo. National Geographic filmed the movie “Balloons over Everest” starting at Gokyo. There are many more trees than when I was there. It was really deforested when I was there. Good to see they are making progress.

    What a beautiful country. I was struck by the 2 lightest backpackers crossing paths with the much older backpackers and the heavy loads they had to carry up the hill just to survive. Thank you for enabling me to see this part of the world with a vastly different lifestyle.

      How do you go about getting the necessary invitation? I tried to go just before RONA and it was such a pain, and to think you did that 11 times?? What did I do wrong??

    • @juicehikes5436
      @juicehikes5436  11 місяців тому +1

      What do you mean by invitation? Permits? If permits it was very simple, go to both the government and National Park booths just outside Lukla and pay the $2500 Rupees for each. They have a new automated system they just started using this year which really speeds things up.

      @@juicehikes5436 A few years ago in order to fly into Nepal, we were informed we needed an official invitation by someone who lived there, which was a pain to acquire. We were set to do a Motorcycle trip and in addition to permits, we had to have a formal invite, sounds like that may no longer be the case. I may have to revisit that trip possibility again!!

    Great vid. Cute that dog crossed the Ngozumpa glacier with you! I crossed it once and there were continuous random rock falls down the sides which made entry and exit pretty sketchy.

      @juicehikes5436  10 місяців тому +1

      Thanks! That dog stayed with us for a few days. Some of the owners of the tea houses said this dog does this every year and they hadn't seen it since last year. The entry and exit was a little sketchy and the path changes daily as sections fall into the water. Pretty crazy place.

      @@juicehikes5436 Himalayan animals are the best huh! A dog joined me for a while on the Annapurna circuit. She got scared crossing one of the suspension foot bridges - it was a super long one - in the end she plucked up the courage and crossed it though. Can't imagine many dogs brave enough to do that stuff!
