Now this is the type of video I and many of us want! Wish there were more vloggers covering things like this. Thank you for showing us the boots on the ground ways to navigate the Philippines. Great footage and explanations!!!
Hello Tom, Thank you for sharing your insights. I find your information very useful and I am always learning from you. I would like to seek your advice on the best way to travel. Do you think it is advisable to travel with only carry-on luggage such as a backpack and a waist pack, without any wheeled luggage? Have you considered buying a motorbike? While I understand that traveling with less stuff is generally better and in keeping it simple, I believe having my own motorbike would be beneficial, although some ferries do not allow them. Own one or just rent? The bus travel misses a lot of opportunities to explore? I would appreciate your opinion.
I really wish I could travel with only carry on luggage.. but I just can't get myself to downsize that much. Items that put me over are things like a second pair of shoes, a drone, a laptop, my rock climbing gear and I have enough clothes to go at least 7 days without washing. But yes, I wish I could get by with a backpack. I would definitely consider buying a motorbike if I had a home base here. That way I'd have a place to leave it or some of my stuff while traveling with it. I would probably still want to fly to places. I tend to leave the country every 6 months. With my current luggage situation it's easier for me to rent as I go. I've also stayed in places where there's nowhere to keep a motorbike like in metro Manila. Then I'm thankful I don't have one. Hope this helps.
Hey Tom, really good step-by-step ($$ and including web links... nice). I have a few Q's: 1. When you got to Tag would you Trike to the restaurant if you had to do it again? 2. From Tag to CDO would you upgrade to the private room if you were a couple? 3. If you take a car on the Ferry Tag to CDO will they allow you to stay in your car? Yeah, I know that last Question was kinda random but I thought maybe you can ask around to the other expats while you're in Mindanao. Nice Vid... Safe travels. Peace and Love, B Goat
Hey Billy I’m a bit afraid of getting old and out of shape so I tend to opt for the opportunity to get exercise when I can. It’s easy to get lazy and out of shape when retired. If it were further or hotter I probably would have triked it. The private rooms are almost double the cost/person if divided by 2. I probably wouldn’t. I like the experience of being among the locals. Mainly I’m just looking to lay down instead of sitting for 11 hours. But if you’re looking to get intimate go private. For safety reasons they won’t allow you to stay in your vehicle. Could possibly get trapped and no access to lifeboats on that deck.

My pleasure. Thanks for the nice comment!
@@tomsaway123hi thank you for this video... What they ask when you book a ticket online at ocean jet and transasiashipping. Thank you
If you happen to travel south of CDO, I'd love to see you do a review of Malaybalay. Thanks again.
I'll be on a bus passing through there on my way to Davao but no plans as of now to spend any time there.
I understand. Reg. Guy is the one that put it on my radar as a place with cooler temps@@tomsaway123
