I omit one hit from left hand part and play remaining three hits, with one motion, french grip, squeeze/snap into second hit for the 2 and 4 accent and let third hit be a tap as part of lifting stick (upstroke) to restart the motion. "(chew) to-BAC-co" repeat. and shuffle on right hand hat part of course.
When I learned this particular blues shuffle back in the 60's, I later realized, after listening to my band's recordings of songs with this beat, that the high hat was mostly drowned-out by the snare not to mention the band itself. Eventually, I just started playing this lick with my right hand playing the shuffle and my left hand playing the 2 + 4 back beat. BTW, the original lick works great of course if you're playing super quiet.
cool! one thing that helped my left hand on that was to also put a ride on the left and slowly practice a shuffle with left hand ride.. slowly... that's key.. si you get the feel... and then swap back and forth like every two bars... left ride... right ride....starting with quarters on the kick..2 and 4 on snare... and gradually work in both hands shuffling together
