1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Start Up, Exhaust, In Depth Review, and Test Drive (Video

  • This ZR1 has been in in storage for a good while and I got the great opportunity to do a video review on it. We had to jump the battery since it had been sitting so that's why it was slow starting. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of the 1990 ZR1 while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration and test drive. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

    The LT5 engine option cost as much as the car itself, but well worth the cost, as the engine made the car special for that time period. I still have my 1990 ZR-1 and it still runs and sounds great.

      +Anon Doe The 1995 zr1 had 405 hp at a top speed of 186, this is an earlier model, 1991 at 375 hp at 179 mph. I have a 1973 , so not really comparable.

    The C4 Corvette has got to be one of the best looking cars of all time in my opinion. I miss the pop out headlights as well, and it is too bad that the newer Corvettes no longer have this feature.

    Doesn't sound like much by today's standards, but when they came out in the early 90's they were a ball of fire compared to other performance offerings and damn near impossible to get your hands on and cost way more than sticker if you found one...

    • @houseofno
      @houseofno 4 роки тому

      Anyone who thinks "375 horsepower isn't much by today's standards" doesn't really know what 375 hp is. The L98 V8, which was in the standard non-ZR1 1990 Corvettes, was putting out a "mere" 260 horsepower by comparison.
      The Mustang 5.0 was doing only 225 horsepower, and the Firebird Trans Am GTA and Camaro IROC Z28 was only getting 245 hp from the automatic-only cast iron block 5.7 V8.

    At the present time I own a 1990 ZR-1 with only 21,000 miles on the odometer. The LT5 is a great motor, and in 1990 held the record for the indurance race . The engine alone cost as much as the base corvette, which makes the car more valuable today. The ZR-1 handles great and a pleasure to drive.

    I am getting older but basically this is the car that symbolizes late 1980s / 1990 America. It was a good era. The GM ignition bongs remind me of all the rental Cadillacs you could get with that new--car GM smell.
    Also, later LT5 engines had 405 horsepower.

    The stock exhaust system is restrictive in the inlet diameter of the center muffler something they fixed on the 93 ZR1's. That and better flowing injector housing and heads to boost output to 405 H.P. There is a lot of meat left in the injector housing and plenum so that's why the LT5 comes a live with porting. My 91 received a 510 H.P. package by Marc Haibeck and he achieved 525 H.P. all with the stock bore and stroke. It currently has the stock 3.45 ratio rear and I plan on swapping it out to the 4.10 ratio. My first 91 had headers and big exhaust with the 4.10 gears and she pulled very hard in 5th.

    Kyle nice find there bud. love the video and that car is nice. Nice find there bro.
    need to tell the dealership, that they need to start the thing at least once a week and let her idle for a bit to keep the valve seals lubed up and at least take it for a roll once in a while. which im sure they do, but that is why there was little bit of blue smoke when you did the exhaust clips, thats the oil coming from the valve seals.

    Beautiful car! Great video saabkyle! My grandpa had one of these back in the day. (I think it was a ZR1, but I'm not sure) He bought it brand new, right around 1990. He has had more than 10 Corvettes ranging from 1969-1999. A 1999 being his current car. He would buy a brand new one every time they changed the style. My uncle also had a 1991 Corvette (non-ZR1) and it was still a blast of a car! It was going to be mine until he sold it. He bought me a Mustang so it's okay. lol Still want the Vette

    4.4 Inch bore centers, meaning thats the distance between the centers of each bore, not necessarily the size of them. I don't know if the LT-5 gets 350ci from the same bore/stroke combination but the normal 350 small block chevy has 4" bores by a 3.48" stroke
