Thanks for a fantastic weekend with Zed and all of the people at Spoonfest. It was great to chat with my all time favorit UA-camr, and keep upp the good work Zed. And if anyone want to see more of my work: instagram.com/tregnomen/ I'm the guy with the lapvise at 3:30
Thanks for all the work in putting together this great video for us folks that are too far away to attend (USA). Your videos are always top shelf!!! You saved the most interesting for last .. the portable shave horse. Thanks again ZED.
Thank you again for taking us with you on all these wonderful events. Very cool to see how each person has their own style of carving a spoon. I think you catched some neat details with your camera work. It's enjoyable to watch!
This was such an amazing and informative session . Thank you for this. Now I need to figure out how I can get to spoonfest in the next year or two. Well done!
Zee, that was brilliant. Thanks so much for filming that. It’s really got me hooked. Who knows, it might even get me down to England for next years event 😀
You should get together with the guy that made the mini shave horse and do a video on that. That would be perfect for doing spoons and other small projects. For me that would be perfect for when I carve wands
@@Zedoutdoors So only a couple of hours north of me. I do hope you can find the time to do a video with him. I think it would be a great alternative for those that work on smaller pieces like spoons, wands, canes and the like. As well as for those that want to do some work when camping or so.
Another enjoyable video Zed. Great to see Master Burrell getting some air time too. You really should take a visit to that young mans workshop mate, he's making some wonderful tools. See you soon, Craig
Yes he invited me down to his workshop in Leicester so really hoping I can make it down at some point, he had some of his gorgeous tools in his van which almost ended up causing my wallet an injury!! ~Peace~
Dang, so every time i see one of these long video times, i'm like: "he's done it again another Zedocumentary, i'm gonna have to find time to watch it because it's so dang long". But then when it's done i'm somehow always (or let's say so far) glad the time was taken for the topic, i didn't get bored and i guess i'm sorta sad it's 'already over'. Tnx again Zed, looks like a mighty fun weekend, and clearly for all ages and all experience levels, appreciate you taking us along. And i would like to thank all the people that felt ok with being filmed and showing off this event, so that i could enjoy it from behind this screen. Tnx, for sharing, looking forward to next year. ~ peace !
As always I appreciate you watching and for your kind words, a few guys came over from Holland to this event and it is attracting more and more of an international audience ~Peace~
Yes his name is Jan Jarm and he's an incredibly talented craftsman from Amsterdam, i'm doing a two day course with him here in the UK in two weeks time ~Peace~
Interesting :) , though excuse me for never having heard of him, i mean, the Netherland might be small but 17million people is still quite a lot of them ;) … guess that means a good opportunity for a nice video? Though be sure to also do some of it yourself, i would hate for you to be the guy around all the bush/woodcraft/survival fun, holding the camera, because you never got to do any of it yourself due to always being the one holding the camera ;P
Hmmmm...pretty cool. I hate to be the arm chair critic, but I witnessed some pretty dodgy blade techniques. Any serious injuries? Could be that I'm overly sensitive.....I very nearly separated one of my own finger tips this morning due to a lapse in concentration. Be careful people! Keep the content coming Zed!
Yes those carvers in question are pros and most of them carve for a living so all their techniques were done safely, as with anything if one isn't experienced or knowledgeable with using a sharp object then one shouldn't even be holding one let alone use one. Thanks for watching ~Peace~
@@Zedoutdoors That's something I noticed also the guy at 3:10, draw cuts over his wrist......., I've also known guys who have done the same job for years, however with that comes complacency and all that experience didn't prevent him taking his fingers off, but great vid as always
I´m quite new in this world of spoon carving but I love it! I follow all your tips and watch videos which can help me to improve my technique but I haven´t got a chance in my country to have a group or someone who teach me: could you give me any guidance on finding people who could help me or any group I could talk to? Or any course I could join to learn more about this great world of spoon carving?
Appreciate your kind words and for watching Cristina, meeting others depends on what country / area you are in. May I suggest joining some very well established green woodworking groups on Facebook as that is by far the best way to connect with folk local to you ~Peace~
Another excellent video. Thank you. I was amazed by the dangerous way many people were carving on their thighs with no protection at all. I always work on a board, never on my thigh. I remember it being described as the "Triangle of Death" and with good reason. Thank you for sharing.
Those carvers in question are pros and most of them carve for a living so all their techniques were done safely, as with anything if one isn't experienced or knowledgeable with using a sharp object then one shouldn't even be holding one let alone use one. The triangle of death purports to the internal upper thighs and groin region. Thanks for watching ~Peace~
You are very kind Karel thank you ....guy at the end with short blonde hair and blue t-shirt carving the bowl of the spoon with an axe is also called Karel :) ~Peace~
Great video I really enjoyed watching it it was a man on their that had 3 tinie knives that he said a blacksmith made the blades an he put the handles on them. I would love to buy one of those I live in the state's an not bladesmiths can you tell me where can buy one thanks
Hi Peter i'm not sure where you are based, in the UK I would recommend here - wood-tools.co.uk/ and in the US I would recommend here - greenhavenforge.com/collections/axes
Off topic, but do you have the Cydalima perspectalis caterpillar in England ? It's killing all the box trees here in France... it's really sad as it's a beautiful tree, and we have entire forests of them that are now dead as these things eat every leaf they can find...
No you need a ticket to attend, because of the every growing popularity of this event the tickets sell out within just a few hours of them going live ~Peace~

All using the 106! I love the choice being stripped down to one, it means less stress and tool lust for us carvers.
The axe, now that’s another story
The 106 is a great tool, you don't need much to be carving away at the same time it's nice to treat yourself to some fancy ones ~Peace~
Could have spent more time on the iron bloom/smelt. ;-)
Great bit of documentary
I could have spent hours on that guy alas with so much going on at this event it was impossible to document everything properly ~Peace~
Hope you don't mind this but can you recommend an axe for a beginner Thanks Peter
