Prison artists are truly talented, they work with what they have not with what they get. The hard part for me is choosing and adapting to the right needle.
(DO NOT TATTOO BRIGHT AREAS FIRST!!!) finish all the solid black areas and only then start shading with your grey wash. otherwise your light greys will pick up a darker tone from the blacks that u will smudge across them.
I disagree. With grey wash it doesn’t matter. With light colors this is true.. but I wouldn’t worry about doing light greys and then black. I do it all the time.
Or... yourself becomes one. I haven't tattooed anyone but myself. I think (personally) a artist should tattoo atleast two tats unseen spots or seen spots to atleast understand what they are doin wrong

When you are struggling with color contrast, I recommend reading a bit about them. There are these topics for example: - simultaneous contrast - complementary contrast (the strongest) - dark-light contrast (what you demonstrated when turning color in black and white) - three tone and four tone contrast. So, by only relying on dark light contrast you might miss the strongest type of colour contrasts like blue and orange, which are a pair of complementary contrasting colours. Read about the colour wheel as well, but take the technical route which is build on RGB and/or CIE Lab colours. They are at the current state of science and will give you the best understanding of how colour perception works. -

Just starting out. I am my own lab rat 😆 But your videos are definitely informative. I ordered a machine kit on Amazon to fix tattoos that i got at a party in highschool. Its correct what you said in this video. Just because One is an artist on paper and canvas doesnt mean they will do good at tattoos. Totally different fields. Because of your videos and a few other peoples videos my first tattoo was a success. I already have people wanting me to give them tattoos. But as ive explained to them, I am not a professional, I am not licensed, and I do not want someone to end up with a crap tattoo because I am not experienced on any level. I i screw "my" tattoo thats my own fault and i have to live with that. But i am starting an apprenticeship at a couple local tattoo parlors. I working at two different ones because they are brother that each own their own parlor and they both excell at their own skills and designs. If im doing this i want to be great, i want to learn from people very experienced. Even if i become great there is always room to learn from more experienced artists.
