Glad this basic Fruity Loops - Fruity Slicer is here :-) ...it would be good if the mouse work could be done interactively on ATOM SQ (or just ATOM). It should be possible to play and experiment lively and interactively without the mouse. This is the exact task I would like to do in sequencer or beat machine.

We need a favourite folder for wavs from my library so I can have my ones i like ready to use in other projects. Reason has had it for years. Fl just put it in. Dont fail behind and miss this feature we all need 💯
Just make a folder on your computer and put those samples in it, or if you already have one, and add the file path to the browser, I have mine setup that way.
Gregor: please do a follow up demo to show how this could be used for instrument loops-- guitars, bass, keys etc...
After a few days of trial and error.. Yes! You can take, for example, a guitar loop from any loop library and do the same thing with it that Gregor is doing here with beats. Just take the audio loop and decide how you want to break it up into what slices by using the audio bend and experiment with where you want to put the bend markers. Once you have the guitar loop sliced into usable pieces (and here I suggest a combination of longer phrases and short ones to give you different sounds to work with), just drag each slice onto a different pad in XT. Then rename the pads so you can see it better in the pattern editor. Then follow Gregor's steps for creating a pattern from play and then use the different pads from XT to create all sorts of guitar patterns you could never get a human guitarist to try. Even better, once you have this pattern down, you can select a different midi instrument like Presence and turn the guitar pattern into a synth, horn, organ, piano, etc... Just be sure to careful to create either a whole new track so you don't overwrite your guitar patterns, or create new variations on the pattern.

VERY nice quick tutorial Gregor, but also VERY weird that you cannot do this editing in the edit panel, the dragging of in/out positions does not work in edit panel, you have to do this on the timeline... very odd. It would be great to have this subject delt with in much more detail... perhaps it is, I will search.

When U are in pattern mode how would I level & mix the different sounds? Ex like if I did a drum pattern how do I mix & apply effects to each sound?

You can do that in Studio One using Impact XT or Sample One XT. From Studio One's browser, just drag your Rex file while pressing shift and it will assign each slice to a pad in the case of Impact XT or to a key in the case of Sample One XT.
The only issue with this workflow is that if your original audio loop is not already quantised 'on the grid' the 'split at grid' process will remove the subtle timing imperfections of rush and drag that probably attracted you to the loop in the first place
You don't have to use split at grid. You can use audio bend and analyse and then play with the threshold to get the bend markers where you want them. Can also manually add and delete markers to get them exactly at the points you want.
@@jupiterjake6349 I get that but if you then apportion the splits across the Impact XT pads and use the pattern sequencer for your new pattern all the subdivisions are back to be lined squarely lined on the grid
@@exitthelemming145 Sorry, I may not have explained it well enough. My approach is a little different than Gregor. You don't do a split at grid, you split up the audio event using the audio bend analyzer. This allows you to split up the event however you like it in either large or small chunks. After that you drag and drop each piece individually to a separate pad (and then rename that pad so you can recognize it when you go to patterns). You do *not* use the shift key as Gregor did in the video. What you end up with then is an XT pad that has the exact bits you want on each one and you can then manipulate those pads in the pattern sequencer.
@@jupiterjake6349 What you are describing is the same functionality as a REX loop where each split if replayed in sequence would sound exactly like the original loop. Yes you can come up with variations on the original this way but these never sound very natural or musical to me and come across as 'faux Reason fills' etc

So Kontakt has a similar feature to split a loop at transients but it also has an export to midi. So not only it will make separate notes for each transient (same as what you showed with Impact XT) but you can drag and drop a midi file that will re-create the original pattern. Any chances to have something similar in impact XT?

Is there any downside to doing your remixing in midi part mode rather than pattern mode? I find for making DnB/Jungle/etc. There's certain effects like repeating snares with different velocities that seem to be at easier in midi mode rather than pattern mode

Hello, Gregor. Quick question about studio one… is there a limit to the amount of bars you can have in a piece of music? I was working on something last night and I couldn’t get past 255 measures.
There’s no limit. Extend by duplicating with “d”, or by prolonging the song end position in the Song settings.
Where is the Empty Kit Impact bank? Can't find it in my Studio One 5 Pro.
If you can't find the Preset, you can also right click a Pad in Impact XT and press "Clear Bank". Then save as a new Preset, or make it the Default Preset if you prefer. Hope this helps! -GBY

hey there Gregor, I just updated to the newest version of studio one a few weeks ago, and some things now have gone tits up for want of a better discription..... almost wish I stayed on the previous version, too late now..... but the question is, now on one of my tracks by the vol slider I sudden have a small thin yellow line which goes from the max 0.0 balanced at the top of it, and it pulsates down toward the min vol of the slider...... what on earth does that mean. and why all of a sudden when it never did it before?........... sorry for asking I guess I am dumb, back to reading the massive vol book of instructions that I can never remember....... I just like making music, not so much the engineering side..... for me if it sounds good it is good, sod all the twiddling
It would be great if you have MACRO for that. Slice at grid and automatically put slices in the pattern like Rex files :)
I tNice tutorialnk he does teach very well but....... it's very complicated for a complete beginner. I have been seeing tutorials for the past week and
I can see chopping my loops as being unique... but isn't chopping someone else's loops still copyright infringement no matter how its mangled? And if it liscensed/open source to use, is it really yours or just something of someone elses you modified? No matter how you rebuild a 57 Chevy, its still a 57 Chevy, not a 57 Gregor... This is why (IMHO) a lot of popular music sounds so recycled... because it is... maybe if you would also show people how to properly loop something, then remix, you are on to something a bit more original (IMHO)
Under U.S. copyright law, you do not have to obtain sample clearance if your sample is so altered that it does not infringe on the original, or your use is a fair one. Also there are millions of copyright free loops on the internet. Now if I took 5 seconds of a Kanye song and just add it to mine, then I am breaking copyright laws.

I just wish I could FIND "pattern mode" or "MIDI learn" or ANY of these features I'm paying for. It's been over a year. None of your videos are much help because I cant see what's on your screen, which is the same problem I have with the whole DAW. Maybe if I got like a 70" TV for a monitor?
