The game is truly unique in its own way, and I do agree that the bugs are pretty bad. However, i feel like theres another thing at play here; so many companies and studios have abused early access as a means of avoiding genuine criticisms and hiding shitty work behind an excuse (Lookin at you, Battlefield 2042, Star Wars Outlaws, Stomping Grounds and 7 Days to Die) and all the controversy around it, thar I feel like some people have really high expectations for an early access (not referring to you, of course, just some other people I've seen) and judging the game really harshly for its current state, especially since if I recall, the game wasnt supposed to come out in Early Access this early but fan demand was really high and the developers had to cave in. Now by no means am I saying that you shouldn't mention all the problems you ran into, by all means, explain what you ran into and report it to Fun Dog so they can fix this. This is one of the most promising games I've seen in a long while, one that hit me in my aesthetic tastes unmatched since Limbus Company of last year. I speak out of love for what I see; tell em where the problems are, and let them cook. At its current state, its very much a work in progress still and a show of concept but the idea absolutely hits when it lands like no other.
I think 7D2D being grouped together with those other 3 games is really not a good example. It was a product out of a Kickstarter that has been constantly updated bimonthly and upgraded on a yearly basis. Fun Pimps have nearly gotten out of business 3 times trying to complete this game and have even lost the rigths of digital publishing for console TWICE due to bad publishers and while by no means I want to excuse some of their incompetencies (which has been proven to be a lot due to experimental features) out of the 10 years of development 6 have been practically funded by themselves and what they have sold from steam EA program. If anything, I think it should be an example on player base retention and excellence on its own genre, since there is basically no other real competitor for Base building survival horde shooter that comes nearly close to them as they themselves build their own niche in the videogame industry. Hopefully FDS will not require as much time as FPS did since they are working on a massively supported game platform as it is Unreal. Here's to hoping they hire more engineers to tackle issues faster in the long run 🍻.
That's good to hear. I'm definitely interested in seeing where the game goes. Just because the early access wasn't the greatest experience for me (I still liked it don't get me wrong) doesn't mean Fundog can't hit it out of the park with the 1.0
I think there is 2 problems right now. The pricing for the EA is on the higher side, going for the 30usd tag right away was a mistake as it felt like they were confident enough to be able to earn that money. While yes, its way less expensive than a full game, EA titles usually go for way less with a lot more content and that might reflect poorly on the future of FDS. They should have released the Demo first and keep cooking the game for at least half a year more to at least iron out some of the problems that were reported during the first private beta screening of the game, hell, they should have probably done at least 2 more private betas after the demo release to iterate on the feeling and the how's of the currently presented content, as is it pretty raw. While I've been enjoying the game PLENTY (I have already 40 hours playing by myself + helping my wife and our bud) I think that in the end of the day, they have a pretty PRETTY rough idea of what they want to do with TFW AS A GAME and nothing clearly cemented. I could also be wrong, and this could be well the result of them having only 7-8 technical developers in the team roster vs the +22 graphical developers as it could be upsetting the balance and speed in which they can implement stuff against how long they take to create the assets for them. With the current balance, no wonder how they were able to dump 5 maps right away on Early Access. The world is clearly crafted with love and a lot of intricacies, and it really is setup in a pretty cool way, but that is just not enough to sell a video game. The best example of this is SCORN... At least they didnt edge us for 7 years to deliver a puzzle solving game lol.
A lot of potential but I worry there just isn't enough there to ever really get it past where it's at, early and early access aside there's a lot of really simple QoL stuff and just odd choices in general. (No multi-sell or full stack sell options, unidentified loot that can be dropped to be identified... which begs the question why make it a mystery in the first place, items that serve no purpose, poor / lack of explanations of mechanics and ideas, item loss / recovery mechanics unexplained, why do you keep the rig but lose it's attachments? No clear end game in sight - no real purpose beyond just looting in perpetuity, cyborgs drop liquor?, ect. ect.) Also random but the 500k upgrades in game are for weapon parts and ammo crafting - one of them doesn't work currently so why would they even have it in game or let you do that - it's a really bad reflection on them IMO. The other lets you convert: 1 whiskey + 30 ak rounds - > 30 ak cryo rounds 20 cigarettes + 30 ak rounds -> 30 ak cryo rounds The logic of this is lost on me because you can find whiskey at the same rate of cigarettes so if this is an example or a fill in so be it - but it's weird and bad. The other craftable base stuff serves no purpose whatsoever and doesn't even require the in game items that are already in the game lol - like they haven't even really been smart with the stuff they have already on hand IMO. Why not require some tools and metal or something to build the add-ons? Seems like a no brainer. It's a lot of style, a little substance and then the slow realization that every game with "loot" and lots of enemies to kill has this exact gameplay loop already integrated into it - so what does this one do differently outside of setting and style - not very much atm. Even the weapons feel remarkably similar to one another regardless of what you run - large drum guns with mid range optics that hit hard if you get the right barrels but everything seems to hit for either 200dmg if it's good or less if it's not. Just really odd choices - I fear that we got rug pulled and that they just won't be able to do much beyond what we are already seeing. I hope to be wrong and I'm still currently playing now so we shall see.
its comprehensible imo, out of the 30 something ppl working on FDS, 5 of them are actual engineers, other 3 are network engineers and the rest its literally artists. We shall see what comes further ahead, as yeah, they might be industry veterans, but the work balance they have there is overwhelmingly creative and less practical.
I think in my 18 hours I had ended with about 21 days worth of water. I wasn't exclusively going for water cuz going for water is boring. I'd rather explore around the map and grab rare shit and have fun.
I was really hyped about this game, but when I saw the gameplay it looked like a Unity tutorial rather than a full fledged game. Sure, it's an early access, but that just reinforces my point. Cool idea, nice wold building, decent graphics, but the gameplay just sucks.
I mean like I said there are really fun moments. I'd say let them cook and see if they make a Michelin star meal or you're going home with a McDonald's bag.
The main problem with the game for me is the performance, which is horrible. You cannot expect a rtx3060 to get 25 fps on all low settings running native 1080p. The game looks great but it is not looking THAT great for this performance. The second is the mouse acceleration and negative mouse acceleration , which makes looking around very cumbersome. Let's hope they pin down those problems. If you look at game footage from a 4090 the game looks super crispy and stable but a 4090 costs a little more than the car i drive currently.
Huh? I have an rtx 2070 and the game runs stable for me with maxed out settings. Do you have the game on a standard HDD drive or a SSD? Performance WILL take a hit if it’s not on an SSD
I just crank up my dpi to 16000 to solve this problem, janky mouse acceleration is a non-issue for someone with a dpi swappable mouse. Also im running this game on an amd ryzen 9 5950x, gigabyte 5700xt with a 1 tb m.2 4th gen samsung 990 pro ssd (3x) and 32gb of ram (as good as my build is, the ram is probably bottlenecking my cpu), and while its not top of the line it definitely keeps my game at a stable 70 fps on 1080p (only show-offs play on 1440p or higher) at medium low settings. (temps are good too, at a respectable 67 - 71°c and a very stable 34°c on my aio) if this was a full release game i would consider this bad, but since its early access i prefer to keep my criticisms on its optimization to myself, they know its not optimized yet so they dont need me or anyone else to talk their ears off about it, no early access game in history has ever been optimized, deal with it.
It may be undercooked but the amount of mechanics that make you THAT GUY is interesting. It also has a billion addons for guns which lean it even more heavily onto that THAT GUY mechanics. In fact, being THAT GUY is a necessary part of leveling up your guns. We can take Fear&Hunger or GTFO as examples of disincentivizing combat, then compare it to ForeverWinter (aka THAT GUY simulator). Truly this is the game you play if you wanna live the THAT GUY dream. The first time you pull out the starter shotgun and find out you can clear out an entire squad with 1 tap each using just the starter weapon is truly a THAT GUY moment. The Forever Winter reminds us that we are all THAT GUY.
Took down 2 mechs in 2 mins and already hunterkillers were on my ass, didnt give me a chance to loot, before i fought my way to evac. Once you have it down pat you can become the hunter rather than pray. Looking forward to it being refined.
People seems to expect too much from an early access game, the game concept is really good, the skeleton is great, impeccable art direction, great sound fx & music, even with his jankyness the game is really fun and yes some bugs are really unnerving too, so yeah if early access not your thing you can wait couple more months but i really think this game is a must have ( if it's your type of game ), unlike some so called tripleA who need to pay influenceurs and gaming "journalist" to vomit fake praises on their game.
I agree to a point, but at the same time I've also seen Early Access games that launch in a significantly better state than the forever winter. I just hope the devs stick with it
@@nihilisticnerd yeah maybe they jumped in EA too early because of the hype of the fans, there is also EA games releasing in better state but for a team of 30 people i think they did OK and no doubt there is a lot of work that need to be done still, as for water system i don't really care if they keep it like this or rework it all, it's EA, mechanics can change if they find idea working for every type of gamer.
3:54 lmao, i agree that scav girl needs a rework but shes not useless, just desperately needs a lot of exp just to carry a decent rig that isnt a worthless money sink. if you want to run almost as fast as scav girl but without the early to midgame limitations of her unable to use other rigs, then may i suggest shaman? hes only 2% slower than scav girl at max rank and can use a wider variety of rigs, has a wider loot radar, and is proficient in shotguns and smg's, more importantly shotguns. as a good drum barreled AA12/USAS-12/Vepr-12 can get you out of any kind of sticky situation, it can even down exo's if you empty the whole mag on it. (But forget mech's or helicopters, they need much bigger guns to deal with). Also this advice is brought to you by a woman, particularly a veteran of both fps/tps games and rts games. 😉😇 (also rpg/jrpg/arpg's and mmorpg's, but this is unrelated) Edit: also the reason those cyborgs wiped you off the floor is because the surplus AK is pretty bad (also because cyborgs run faster than even scav girl at max rank), its best used at range as a marksman rifle due to its low fire rate, it does use 5.45 so its damage is respectable but only if you can make headshots. You also come with a surplus shotgun as part of your respawnable gear, and it can save your life far more often than you'd think in this game, in a pinch it can two tap an HK in the head at close range, or 4 to 6 on the body. Most cyborgs go down with one body shot. funfact: if you can get close enough to melee an HK then you can stun-lock them with infinite stagger, very useful in a pinch especially if you dont have any cover in cqb.
Oh yeah, I started running Shaman in my later runs. He has just the speed and awareness that mask man completely lacks. I think I actually like him more than maskman. I didn't mess around with trying to optimize scav girl as much as I could have.
@@nihilisticnerd scav girl is like one of those late game bloomers in moba games like lol, utterly useless in the beginning, but incredibly good at late game. I just wish they reworked her rig limitations. Mask man is actually really good as a scout since it has 2x extraction radar and is great for getting accustomed to unfamiliar maps, its also just barely fast enough to make using an LMG worthwhile, but i agree he is quite deaf and unaware of his surroundings 😂 Shaman on the other hand is like the perfect middle of the lot scav, hes good at everything and isnt too specialized. Perfect for doing odd jobs or acting as the squad leader since he can perform a variety of roles and can reposition when necessary (always). Bagman is worse than mask man in that regard but he more than makes up for it by having access to the most overpowered rig in the game, the packmule. not only is this monster of a rig able to carry so many rounds of ammunition and meds to make you feel like you are *"That Guy"* with a Painless HMG or XM4 grenade launcher, but you can upgrade his rigs parts to be able to straight up tank hails of fire from the enemy, essentially turning the already high hp bagman into a walking tank with a tower shield on his back. (plus he looks like an american version of batou from ghost in the shell, those cybernetic eyes of his scream ghost in the shell to me 😆) but his biggest downside by far is that hes a very heavy boi and very very slow. You better have very good map knowledge as bagman because you'll need it to either slowboat your way to extraction, or to do a tactical withdrawal/retreating defensive action as you face your back moonwalking to the extraction while raining hell on your persuers.
Yeah I'm really interested in seeing how they make gunhead work. By design alone He was the character that I would have started with but he isn't available at this time.
@@nihilisticnerd im really curious about gunhead too, as we know the AA12 is a very nasty gun in this game especially when you mag dump all its rounds on the enemy, and he has one strapped to his head. it would be amazing if it would act like an independent turret while we use our own handheld primary (probably another AA12 lets be real xD), either way its a really fun design for possibilities in the future.
It got you to update your PC with a more modern drive, that says you like it more than you're letting on imo. People seem to not understand what " Early Access " can mean, and $30 is a lot less money than buying your 3 day " Early Access " $60 + AAA / AAAA ( 😆 ) title game like Star Wars, or Dragons Dogma 2 optimization for $70 +. They had to get their name out there, what better way than to show people what you got in the tank so far, this is there first game is it not ?.
I don't know what gave you the idea that I don't like the game. There are certainly parts about it I dislike but I do enjoy it quite a bit. I'm still left with mixed opinions as the future of the game is unclear. As for upgrading my PC, I wouldn't feel right making a video about a game ranting about the performance if I have an opportunity to mitigate said performance issues. I've been needing to upgrade my drive for a while now. This just gave me an immediate reason to do so. And I had spare money. As for the stuff you said you said about the AAA three day early pass. I agree completely. I actually really liked dragon's dogma but it had some heavy optimization issues. As far as I'm aware it still does.
@@nihilisticnerd Might have just been me then, there's parts I think the majority who play the early access game dislike and many are most likely the same dislikes. I don't mind the water system, it's really not that big of a deal like you said, log in for a few hours and collect weeks worth of it and your fine. The A I definitely needs work, and getting stuck in or on random things sucks, getting animation locked during reloads instead of just being able to swap to your other weapon so you don't get railed definitely sucks. Time will tell what happens and I'm on board to seeing what that looks like.
Good review. Its a game with an interesting concept but awfully poor execution in terms of technical and design decisions. If they didn't want me to have it as that "Game" im forced to spend my evenings on to keep up with, i might be more inclined to give it a look.
It is Early Access, so I understand there being technical flaws, but at the same time when releasing a game into Early Access it can be detrimental to the games future if it performs poorly. I'm hoping that fundog takes the feedback from the normal humans with a 40÷ hour workweek rather than the wannabe hardcore basement dwellers.
You have no clue how irrelevant the water system is. I've almost got a whole years worth of water saved up. It will undoubtably be modified in the future. If you enjoy playing the game at all you'll never have to worry about not having enough water. Most critisim is very valid on how rough the game is. Complaining about getting water is not one of them.
@dunkinDP If you actually think that the water system in its current state is "hardcore" let alone well thought I'm sorry that your parents dropped you on your head.
It’s kinda weird to me that you don’t feel it’s worth 30… This is the kind of a project that I’d put 30 down just to let it go on and see where they will go with it.
It's a risk-versus reward situation. With Early Access, we're gambling with our money and at this point in time I'd recommend waiting to see if it's worth investing your money in after a few substantial updates. Fundog is also a new studio. It remains to be seen whether they will stick to it.
I've played for 12 hours and have 2 months of water... If that is too hard to deal with honestly you're probably playing the wrong game. Also you're treating this like a full release not the EA that it is. Also losing all water just resets the loot you have not the important exp.
The argument wasn't that "collecting water is difficult". The argument is "the water mechanic is implemented poorly and could be utilized in a significantly less predatory, and more engaging way." As for treating it like a full release. I would have been significantly harsher on it if this was full release. But at the same time that doesn't mean I can gloss over those problems. If there are issues in it I need to talk about them. I did state in the review that it was in early access and the jank is to be expected. Though I will admit I should have stated that earlier in the video.
I found hilarious that some still are giving shit about water system. Whole thing becomes irrelevant about 3hours into the game. What is relevant is XP on your characters (and that doesnt wipe). Finding water is easy, getting water from quests is even easier. Still all of that doesnt matter now coz there still will be someone playing. You lost everything? Welp I guess you have to piggyback someone for an hour or two (coz you can acces host shops when connected to their innard). You get some weapons from donation box or good soul from discord and feels like maybe you have 1 hour setback.
@@zacharyharris7767 right now I have MAYBE 20min a day but I can strech to sub 40mins every 2 or 3 days. Getting water is no brainer with session as short as 15mins. You get in, get few easy water quests, find more on the map - boom 3-4 days of water in 7 mins
the shotgun one shots if most pellets hit, a one shot will kill the unit but not fully alert the sqaud to your exact location, if you dont oneshot a unit the guy will point you out and the whole squad engages you
The foundation is there for an amazing game, but currently the Ai is so annoying and stupid that I’d rather refund it now and pay $60 later. It is that bad. Currently the game doesn’t seem to take into account that some people actually want to play solo. Want to sneak? Too bad, 50 enemies just spawned 10 feet in front of you. Want to extract ? Too bad 100 enemies just spawned right in front of you as soon as you pressed the extract. Not to mention waiting a full minute to leave is incredibly fucking stupid. Great game, but needs to cook for another year before it’s worth any money. Lore is warhammer level of phenomenal but the current state disappointed me quite a bit You guys can defend it ALL you want but the fact of the matter is you shouldn’t be being charged $30 for this game. If they were that interested in getting volunteer bug reporters, it should be labeled as a demo. Point blank period.
The majority of my runs were solo. But I was relatively effective at sneaking after I learned the level layouts. I can do a water run of scorched enclave in 4-6 minutes. The main thing is to seek out the instant extractions on solo runs. Most larger maps give you more than one extract option. The timed ones are labelled "Timer" so you can easily avoid those. Also different entry points determine extraction options. There are a couple entry points that have exclusively timer extractions I avoided those like the pleague.
I kind of have to mention it though, it's a core mechanic to the game as well as one of the most controversial. I did wind up cutting a lot of that part of the script down multiple times.
I do wish that it has a similar balance/weight mechanic as Death Strandi9ng. the aesthetic of carrying more item in the bag is already there. just need to feel it when playing.

Well said, brother.
@@mariut00 you make a good point for 7 Days to Die. My apologies
Hell it's already insanely fun and I'm running on a 1070 with dogwater performance lol. So excited to see how it progresses
That's good to hear. I'm definitely interested in seeing where the game goes. Just because the early access wasn't the greatest experience for me (I still liked it don't get me wrong) doesn't mean Fundog can't hit it out of the park with the 1.0
Love to see someone else instantly noticing Beksinski's influence in the art style of the game.
I mean... yea, that's what early access means.
No clear end game in sight - no real purpose beyond just looting in perpetuity, cyborgs drop liquor?, ect. ect.)
Also random but the 500k upgrades in game are for weapon parts and ammo crafting - one of them doesn't work currently so why would they even have it in game or let you do that - it's a really bad reflection on them IMO.
The other lets you convert:
1 whiskey + 30 ak rounds - > 30 ak cryo rounds
20 cigarettes + 30 ak rounds -> 30 ak cryo rounds
The logic of this is lost on me because you can find whiskey at the same rate of cigarettes so if this is an example or a fill in so be it - but it's weird and bad.
We shall see what comes further ahead, as yeah, they might be industry veterans, but the work balance they have there is overwhelmingly creative and less practical.
people who play allot dont love the water mechanic either.. i have 65 water... there is no risk for me now
I think in my 18 hours I had ended with about 21 days worth of water. I wasn't exclusively going for water cuz going for water is boring. I'd rather explore around the map and grab rare shit and have fun.
This was a good video! & fun my dude keep up the good work for sure!
Thanks for the kind words of support, brother.
This was a good, informative video.
Thank you.
3:15 I know Zdislaw. I just keep forgetting how to write the names spelling because the spelling looks like spaghetti
I had to look up how to pronounce the name. 😂
@@zacharyharris7767 yes 5800x CPU, SSD ,rtx 3060 and I can only play the game on 80fps when I set half resolution.
(temps are good too, at a respectable 67 - 71°c and a very stable 34°c on my aio)
if this was a full release game i would consider this bad, but since its early access i prefer to keep my criticisms on its optimization to myself, they know its not optimized yet so they dont need me or anyone else to talk their ears off about it, no early access game in history has ever been optimized, deal with it.
Of course its undercooked we took a sip while it was mid browl. The things still cooking.
😉😇 (also rpg/jrpg/arpg's and mmorpg's, but this is unrelated)
Edit: also the reason those cyborgs wiped you off the floor is because the surplus AK is pretty bad (also because cyborgs run faster than even scav girl at max rank), its best used at range as a marksman rifle due to its low fire rate, it does use 5.45 so its damage is respectable but only if you can make headshots.
Mask man is actually really good as a scout since it has 2x extraction radar and is great for getting accustomed to unfamiliar maps, its also just barely fast enough to make using an LMG worthwhile, but i agree he is quite deaf and unaware of his surroundings 😂
Shaman on the other hand is like the perfect middle of the lot scav, hes good at everything and isnt too specialized.
(plus he looks like an american version of batou from ghost in the shell, those cybernetic eyes of his scream ghost in the shell to me 😆)
but his biggest downside by far is that hes a very heavy boi and very very slow.
Well yea it's undercooked because its practically a pre-alpha build which they were pressured to put out there and they have stated this clearly.
Hooked to this game already, and it's not even polished yet. Give the Fun Dogs some time, it will be an even greater game.
@@nihilisticnerd again filthy casuals have to put their dirty finger on everything. Not everyone cares about you, or what you want.
Generally speaking, irrelevant systems should be left out of a game. You yourself said that it brings nothing to it.
Literally get enough water to last weeks if you play it semi regularly for a couple days lol
What's the deal with all these helping tags and labels, like question marks and red circles?
With that thumbnail?
But it was eye-catching, wasn't it?
its not downs, its rep system trying to let you go
the shotgun one shots if most pellets hit, a one shot will kill the unit but not fully alert the sqaud to your exact location, if you dont oneshot a unit the guy will point you out and the whole squad engages you
@@UT_SWAT A complete lie
Lore is warhammer level of phenomenal but the current state disappointed me quite a bit
You guys can defend it ALL you want but the fact of the matter is you shouldn’t be being charged $30 for this game.
"Can We Stop Talking About Water"....
Ngl, I'd hate that with a passion. Don't feel like having to worry about balance when i'm trying not to get squashed by a mech
