Hi Brilliant helpful video thank you. in reply to @Kee7678 yes, I think you're correct. This sliding carriage system had me puzzled too. I understand some other motorcycle manufacturers (not all) have adopted a similar system. The tail swinging around scenario @kee7678 mentions, especially if carrying a heavy load, could transmit itself to the front of a motorcycle and in certain circumstances induce what I believe is generally know as a "tank slapper." Meaning the handle bars could have induced in them an involuntary and quite violent side to side motion (almost slapping a motorcycle tank) that is difficult to control and stop. This is particularly so, if there is weight located at the rear. Obviously depending on the overall circumstances weight carried, size of bike, weight of rider and passenger may or may not be a factor in regaining control. That's my understanding of the Triumph Sliding Carriage System, from what I've found on the web and been told here in the UK. Anyway hope it helps and a great video, thank you.

What a great video - thank you. I was about to buy the Givi SRA6401 and a different top box, as I was so fed up with mine sliding about and rattling. I never even thought about locking it down. Like you I had 2 bites at it as the first version I tightened everything up "off centre" like an idiot :) The only thing I did different is by using a magnet I pushed the front 13mm bolt up from the bottom and put the 12mm nut on the top - was just easier to get it started. brilliant video thank you for posting it.

My dealer service dept, who all have this sliding carriage, swear by it...says it keeps the tail from swinging around just a bit, in a harsh wind and yes they have more grommets etc from when it hits about 100k mile mark and it will loosen up etc by then..which is why they have the rummber grommets etc to replace. Im currently deciding what to get on my bike...the 42L Monokey or the 46L Dolomiti Monokey....and which plate too. I get a 15% discount for 30 days too..I think I'm leaning towards the 46L. Givi has the new Alaska top cases too which are 44L . Hmmmm. not sure what the heck to do. Any input or advice is appreciated. What would you do today? I have a Tiger 900 Rally Pro fyi...

Well hopefully you can lock yours down the same way, stop the movement and get a few more years out of it!

Nice run-down. Very informative. The movement doesn't makes sense to me. I'm in the process of deciding to go Triumph or GIvi. Also you're supposed to replace those grommets as they wear. It adds an additional maintenance requirement. I'm starting to lean to a Givi set up.

You can buy a service kit through triumph that contains all the washers and rubber bushings.
    Part number is T2351548.
This should be everything if you wanted to maintain the movement. I remember mine came with plenty of grease but last time I pulled it apart that was all washed out.

The dealer I talked to claimed they couldn't get the individual pieces let alone a nice kit.
When I look up that kit you mentioned, looks like the other style of carrier

Yep, that has some serious play. Gotta love poor engineering and it is a stupid thing to wear out.
