I think your lady is right, after all my skin surgeries (skin cancers), we've found that keeping the spot covered with polysporin or even just vaseline helps it heal faster. Doug, me and the 3 Darwins (formerly bilge rats turned lab rats) are coming out of retirement. Something so fantastic is being done right now in cancer research and I have what NIH is looking for, so I am gonna build. I just can't sit back and wonder if I could have done this. My time left is diminishing but I would rather die with my last memories being those of trying. You have greatly aided in the inspiration with every "What did you build today?" Thanks you❤

Probably half the houses in Punta Gorda have aloe plants growing in their yard. I'm sure someone there wpuld give you a few stalks of it, or even better, a potted plant. It would grow just fine on the Seeker with minimal care; just water every few days.
Pro-Tip: keep it cold before using it, especially on burns. It works great.

Neosporin shouldn't be placed on a large burns like that, especially UV burns. Aloe vera gel or other burn gels are the proper treatment according to welding and sun exposure 1st aid treatment. I would recommend keeping aloe vera gel on hand on board the ship since you are going to be having people out in the sun, so sun burns are going to happen often. When welding, a cotton sleeve is a good idea to prevent the UV exposure. At your age, getting heavy UV burns like that can raise your risk of skin cancer a lot, so not getting them when you can avoid them is a good idea. Mild sunburn is one thing, but Kentucky Fried Chicken for skin tends to cause skin cells to malfunction that have already been beating the odds, so best not to play that game when you can avoid it.

Did those burns a few years ago same cause, fun fun fun. Neosporin for burns?? ick. Even clinics don't use it due to antibiotic abuse and what it may due to your gut biome. For those raw burns you have Silvadene cream kicks arse. Otherwise, aloe vera. A key part of skin healing is keeping it moist (not waterlogged) to provide a medium for the cells to build on/through.
As for what I did today? I spent hours tearing apart one of my welders and troubleshooting in heat and tight quarters only to discover a custom gas valve switch I forgot about and a poor hose connection that drained all my argon. Just shoot me.

    • @SVSeeker

No. Not unless it blowing more than 15 knots. The winch is slow but it has plenty of power to move the boat. We will almost always put the boat is forward for about 10 seconds once we are over the anchor, in order to over run the anchor and help pull it from the bottom.

@@SVSeeker But we all know shit happens. :) While I have never had to emergency retrieve an anchor but once when in a TennTom anchorage after a storm when the upstream dam let loose a deluge on us, I was glad my windlass moved chain faster than yours. However, I have seen a slower one than yours when I was conning the battleship Iowa out of anchorage, but you never do anything fast in a battleship in part because emergencies are not allowed to happen there. :)

Today it’s 1.4 knots in 7 knots of wind close reaching. Which is the best Seeker will do. Still no main but only because if we go any faster we will get there before sunrise.

Something along the lines of a rope with knots in it every so often (1 meter maybe?) and the end was tied to a stick and tossed over behind the ship, and the number of knots that played out in a certain time indicated the speed.

Hi guys. This is Cher. Using my hubbys phone that's why his name Lester shows up!
Lester calls me "Dr. Cher" bc he says I think I have a "cure" for everything...not the case...
However....my Dr says bacitracin is better than Neosporin...but for burns, the over the counter therapy is...ZINC OXIDE. It comes in a tube just like bacitracin and Neosporin and is found in the same aisle as them at most drug stores.
No need for me to lecture you Captain on how silly(for lack of a more stern word) it was of you to weld without appropriate attire and especially bare chested and with all that hair on your body!🤔🙃😕🤬😜❤️.
Go get some zinc oxide... And behave yourself...the outcome of welding like you did wasn't funny or smart and we are surprised you even did it!
Love to you and Carol. Happy Sailing and hope you heal quickly.❤

Doug I appolgize in advance cause I know this isn't going to be something you want to hear but please be careful with the welding without a shirt that's the kinda UV intentesity that causes DNA damage resulting melanoma in very short order . Since you got that nice fancy boat I had hoped to follow your explorations for sometime to come....If it fill your heart with joy to weld shirtless then by all means do so but please have someone take good quality detailed pictures of your torso at regular intervals(every 2-3 months) and relatively the same position making a record of the dates ....that way they can be shared with your doctor at some point to monitor for the changes that signal cancer. When find it early it's very treatable.
