he's your standard normal browned eyes guy from Surrey suburbs whom you never thought he'd make it to the big leagues, but with his passion and dedication to his music he did, and he's such a role model for doing that
@Liv101 Davis I think they're talking more about those "fans" that are like : I love Rex orange county they're my favorite band / loving is easy is they're best song People like that are kind of annoying
his fan base is the best, i used to be in another fandom and as I joined him his fans seem very nice as I had to experience a very toxic fandom but his just seems very supportive
I think he's so special because of his music. His lyrics. The way he's so approachable, so relatable, the way he makes you feel you almost ARE him. You feel just like he feels, and how you could be this really famous dude, but maybe you don't WANT to be him.
Saw him as a support act maybe 3 or 4 years ago. Remember he had nothing on Spotify so had to listen to him on SoundCloud but was hooked. Crazy to see him grow and bumped into him a few times at my local pub as he recorded Pony there. A good lad.
i just love how every one of his songs feels like a conversation that rex is having personally with u. i haven't come across many artists with the ability to do this as well and as effortlessly as rex does
I love how at once his lyrics are both very specific to his own experiences and at the same time so instantly relatable. when listening to Pony I get the feel that a lot of the songs are based off of specific events and/or relationships but it is so easy to forget about that and relate all of the lyrics back to my own life. not to mention his arrangements! the fact that he mostly self produces is INSANE when you listen to all of the different instruments and melodies layered on top of each other in every song. only a recent fan but I love his music so much!
My favorite song has got to be Pluto Projector, the orchestra is so beautiful and as a violinist it’s an opportunity to show everyone that the orchestra can be so beautiful when included in other music. Usually the orchestra is overshadowed by the band (which band is everywhere and it’s beautiful but sometimes we just need some love and appreciation)
Hi just a little correction here: During Television/So Far So Good, the tempo actually doesn’t speed up but rather the time feel is doubled. The tempo is the same but the drums are now hitting on the “and” of each beat. It’s a bit of an important distinction because tempo changes are quite hard to pull off and a kinda rare especially in pop/indie. Love your commentary though!
i fucking love rex man. he manages to put all of the emotions into words and put them in music so smoothly and i love it. he is definetely one of my favorite artists, i cant wait to see him perform someday :)
I love Rex! His music hits home for me and just brings out any emotion that is burrowed in you. If you are sad his lyrics will enhance it by a million but in a good way. If you are happy same outcome. I’ve never heard a sound like his before and I love it truly, best wishes to Rex keep doing you brother!
I’ve listened to Rex since 2017, and it’s amazing to see how far he has gone! I was able to go see him in LA during the Pony tour and he was amazing. I really think he’s going to do some bigger things in the future. Some of my personal favorites are definitely Belly, Never Enough, and Waiting Room ::)
I listened to Television/So Far So Good originally in a sort of happy way. Later after something happened, I listen to it in a sort of more sad tone. And that's what makes his music amazing.

what imo makes Rex Orange County a really good listen, is a combination of a few factors: 1. Most of his writing style is distinctly not pop-ish: a lot of his songwriting draws clear inspiration from artists like Stevie Wonder, Randy Newman, etc. and uses those to write very palatable indie pop 2. He's got a pretty unique voice for a singer, which helps him stand out 3. His first two albums were very strong albums: "bcos u will never b free" is a creative lo-fi self-produced album that really showcases his abilities as a songwriter without a lot of tools at his disposal, and "Apricot Princess" is a masterfully written and expertly produced album that borrows from many other genres (jazz, soul, musical theatre, indie-rock, etc.) while forming a cohesive and lush end product. (imo his third album wasn't nearly as well produced and some songs felt very underwritten, but that's just my opinion) 4. His lyricism is fairly unique and really sincere: he's really good at expressing certain emotions through his lyrics that a lot of fans can relate to, and the way his lyrics are delivered is also pretty unique Overall he's just a young & talented songwriter who hit the ball out of the park on his first two records
@@Nalinalinali bruh in my opinion as someone who loves both artists and is very familiar with both their discographies, (and keeping in mind art is subjective and everyone has the right of their own opinion) , rex is better than mac. a lot of mac's songs sound like they're in the same key and are using the same 4 or 5 chords. his music can be repetitive and it results in a lot of his songs sounding very similar, even though they're good. rex's songs all are multi genre and very interesting and take risks. also, in terms of differences, Mac tends to make a lot of easy listening mellow indie rock and rex has a more pop-y sound haha. anyways they're both great and have a similar demographic, but their music is very different
also that's not to say that Mac doesn't take risks in his songs or has not introduced tons of new sounds to our generation, its just that a good amount of his works sound the same- I think a lot of the heart in his music comes from his off-beat lyricism and stories to tell. whereas rex, I can listen to a number of his songs instrumentals and still be enraptured in the story the music itself is telling and its fresh individuality of it all. idk though hahah
