Just on the "Cool Factor" alone the golden nugget is No. 1 in my book at this years show. Huge shout out to all the guys in Utah who made it happen. Bravo!!
If you aren’t familiar with the golden nuggets story, Matt’s off road recovery’s very own, Ed owns it. There is a few videos regarding the history, recovery and the rebuild. Matt’s off recovery, fab rats, Robby Layton’s paint, and a few more. Basically Ed has a gold claim and he took this Suzuki out there 45 years ago to use it for a back and forth ride, sadly when he returned a massive rock slide happened and it basically cut it off from the rest of the world.
The Golden Nugget is gonna be on every car you tubers channel who is at SEMA, how could it not be. Amazing job Robby, Fab Rats and Matt! May Ed never lose that grin. And not to down play the other amazing cars there, the Nugget has the story none of the others can touch! Still amazes me how many people knew (like 400,000 possibly) about it and only a few idiots ALMOST blew the surprise and just how many folks were involved, donated and worked on it. For Free! Amazing group of folks in Utah.
@mucillis Carz. You did a good just. Mind you re the first person to post it on UA-cam. I’ve been looking for Ed Golden Nuggets all day. If you’re able to go back in post a separate video for Golden Nugget alone. Thanks.
Yeah, definitely go watch the Golden Nugget rebuild from start to finish. Pretty amazing. It sat in the mountains for 40 years, stuck in a rock slide. Matt's Off Road Recovery went and pulled it out, tested it's submarine capabilities in a river (spoiler alert... it didn't float), then handed it over to Paul at Fab Rats to rebuild with a modern (sort of) powertrain. Next it was handed off to Robby Layton for body work and painting to the highest level any Suzuki has ever seen. There were a lot of other contributors and donors to the project, along the way. All this was done as a surprise gift for its octogenerian owner, Ed. Oh, and Ed's motorcycle (which you glimpsed) got rebuilt too by the guys at Bikes and Beards. Since then, everyone has gotten their own 2 wheel drive Rokon and they're starting the "Slow Roller" motorcycle gang! Lots of cool stuff at SEMA. Thanks for walking us around. (Ignore the haters!)
The Golden Nugget! The most expensive Suzuki that ever was or will be. Great story behind it. Around $200,000.00 if you total all the man hours and parts. The paint was over $1000 a gallon.
12:37 Ed's Golden Nugget makes every video it is in awesome. Fabrats, Robby Layton (Layton Auto Body), Matts off road Recovery, and Chad Fab all did awesome on rebuilding that from being stuck for 40 years.
Thanks for the walk thru, Love seeing the Golden Nugget!! It looks AMAZING!! 3 cheers for Robby, Matt, Fab Rats et al who busted their asses to get this done for Ed.
I wonder if this UA-camr knew the history of the Golden Nugget prior to attending the show and filming it? Judging from the comments, nearly everyone who has heard of SEMA knows the story.

That is the only reason I'm here is to see Ed's golden nugget and to see if the crew involved was around. I will have to watch their videos when they load them. I think Robby hauled it there. It took a lot of different people to build it for Ed and I followed the whole build on I think 5 different channels. It's one of a kind for sure that was built using profits from UA-camrs. It was pure junk to start with and look at it now. The sad part is I think Ed is afraid to drive it because it's too nice.
That Suzuki belongs to an old guy in his upper 80's and it lived in a wash in Utah for about 10 years. It got stuck when the owner was heading out to his claim to pan for gold. he would to a Rokon so he could get to his claim because the Suzuki could only get him part way, then the Rokon was needed to finish the trip. He was talking to Matts off road recovery where he would hang out, because he was board hanging around the house. Matt decided to go out to recover the vehicle and had set up with 4 other UA-cam, creators. So, Matts recovery, Fab Rats, Bikes and Beards and Robby Laton to name the big players completely restored the RoKon, Trailer as well as the Suzuki and gifted it back to Ed, the owner, at no charge and it is all documented on their Channels.
Man, here I sit in South Africa and was sort of under the impression that near everybody should by now know about the "Golden Nugget and extras". You go breezing by it with only slight reference to the vehicle and not "the" vehicle it really is - very funny.😀
