- You won't believe this wild theory about Riley's dad from Inside Out being Andy's dad from Toy Story. I've been thinking about this for a bit, so hear me out. In Toy Story, Andy's family is moving, possibly due to his parents' divorce and the need to split their assets. Similarly, in Inside Out, Riley and her family are also relocating. Now, here's where the theory kicks in: in Toy Story 3, Andy heading off to college kinda resembles Riley's dad without the mustache. Plus, in Riley's memories in Inside Out, we spot the Pixar ball (an Easter egg from Toy Story) and the Pizza Planet truck. So, my theory is that Andy's mom found out about an affair between Riley's mom and Andy's dad. She was already pregnant with Molly and learned about Riley's mom being pregnant too, leading to the divorce. Riley and Molly are only a year apart in age. After the divorce, Andy's mom got custody of both kids and most of the cash, while Andy's dad left to be with Riley's mom, raising Riley until they moved to a new city. So, that’s my theory. What do you think about it?

I thought Andy’s dad had died because in Toy Story 2, when Woody was found by the toy store owner and wanted to buy it, Andy’s mom panicked and said that toy wasn’t for sale and quickly locked Woody in the cash box. The way she acted made me think that the toy had belong to her husband when he was little or it was the last gift he bought for Andy before his passing.

It was confirmed by the creator of Toy Story Andy's dad sadly passed away before the first movie. He had to throw out all his toys but one and that was his Woody doll he got from a special Woody's Roundup did. I highly recommend listening to it, it adds so much to the first two Toy Story movies.

Yeah, Andy’s dad was bed ridden as a kid in the 60’s, all his possessions were gathered into the lawn to be burned, he crawled out of bed, out of his room, all the way to the front lawn to rescue his woody doll, Mr potato head and slinky. It’s pretty damn sad. The pictures of Andy with glasses we see around the house is not actually Andy, it’s Andy’s dad.

As I remember correctly, it's canon that Andy's dad already passed away at the beginning of Toy Story. It's also a bit of a stretch to make the pixar ball a connection to the families 'cause the ball might just be like other balls in the real world, they're popular and that there are a lot of them.
Riley's dad might also be Andy's uncle.

Its confirmed that Andys dad died before the events of Toy Story. The house they are in in the first movie is Andy's grandparents house.
Edit: I did not come up with this. I saw it in a Super Carlin Brothers video where they interviewed the director's friend. Apparently the director told his friend some time before he died.

If this theory were true, then either Toy story would have to take place about 10 or more years before 1995, or Inside Out would have to take place in the future from 2015.

Your forgetting one thing, Troy story 1 and 2 are in the 90s toy story 3 is in 2010, and inside out is in 2016 , if this was true, Riley wouldn’t be born in 1995 she would be born in 2005

Honestly a lot of similarities in Pixar they are having to reuse old assets cause it takes time and money to create new ones, new textures, etc and the deadline for movie releases is already tight.
I’m pretty sure Riley and Molly are a little bit farther apart in age than a year. We can see that Riley has a smartphone in Inside Out while in Toy Story 3 there’s a scene or two where Andy has a flip phone

Theory - In my theory, Riley was never adopted. Later on when she was older, she slept with someone causing her to get pregnant. Andy’s father probably left the picture or died some point after giving woody to Andy which is probably why he was so attached to woody and woody felt like it was his mission to keep him happy. So in conclusion, Andy grandparents could be Riley’s parents because Riley is his mother.

There are some holes here... If Andy is Riley's father then that would explain why her eyes are blue yet it doesn't explain why Riley's father (aka Andy) has brown eyes now. And if that were the case then Andy married Margo from despicable me? Because Margo being Riley's mom is also a theory 💀
And if this theory is true then that would ALSO explain why Riley has blond hair unlike her parents, it's either an excess gene from Andy's mom or from Edith (who would be Riley's aunt) which is possible.
I think Riley was adopted. If you look at the scene when she was a baby, her mom doesn’t look like she just gave birth. I think they couldn’t have a baby so they adopted a newborn that the mother didn’t want. She doesn’t look anything like her mom and dad with the blonde hair and blue eyes. Riley could potentially be Andy’s mom but I don’t think they are brother and sister.
There’s a lot of science with genetics that could make her blonde and blue eyed and not adopted 🤓
