  • Segmented displays are a classic, handsome addition to electronics projects. The novice might have some trouble learning how to use and drive one of these displays, so this video has everything I can think of that one may need to know to use these displays.
I purchased these displays off Amazon, where they're roughly the same price as on Ali:
    amzn.to/3J1QYPM
Same with these DIP switches, which are actually really convenient for breadboards:
    amzn.to/3ZKSz2b
Along with this video, I also wrote an Arduino code file with subroutines to help you drive these displays. You can find that file on my Patreon. You don't have to be a Patron to access the file, but by becoming one, you can support my channel and gain access to exclusive premium STLs.

A small correction: at 3:43, I said that forward voltage is the number of volts that are dropped. Forward voltage and voltage dropped are usually nearly the same for diodes, but the two terms are conceptually distinct and should not be confused. Multimeters' diode test mode shows forward voltage, not voltage drop.
Forward voltage is the voltage that is required for current to flow across the component, typically a diode.
Voltage drop is the decrease of electric potential along the path of a current flowing in a circuit

    Nice.
