bloody marvellous. Quite special conditions!
this is awesome! greetings from Italian Alps!
This is magnificent! looks like so much fun
Great xc ski videos. Please post more!
Really cool !! Would love to ski there.
the type of skiing we are doing this time of year. Have skied at least two of the three places shown heard. Not sure what Whittier pass is. Maybe the same as Portage pass. Good times.
I have a rather short bucket list with only this on it, awesome video. How often are the conditions good enough to do it? And by any chance, would you happen to know if Yukon has similar terrain anywhere for skate skiing?
Comments like this make my day! In Alaska, there are probably 10-15 days per year with perfect crust skiing conditions. That rarity is what makes it so special. There is this magic window when skate skiing is the absolute best way to travel in the mountains. I imagine that there are great places to go in the Yukon, but I'm not personally familiar with the area. Generally speaking, look for areas above treeline with lots of snow cover in March, April, and May. When the spring freeze-thaw cycle starts, crust will form. Warm sunny days and cold clear nights provide the best conditions. Sometimes it takes some hiking/climbing to access the crust from the road - hiking trails up to mountain valleys are generally a good place to start.
Eric Packer, thanks for this answer, exactly what I was wondering about. I was assuming the conditions were present mostly in the spring given the light clothes you're wearing in both videos. I'm visiting a friend in Yukon in March, which is why I was asking so I'll keep an eye open for those conditions but it looks like I may have to visit Alaska that time of year at some point. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for posting. Nice soundtrack :)
You're welcome
Awesome!
Proud of you guys! Skating is the coolest of all sports.
Most of my xc skiing has been in deep powder, traditional method only there
skate skiing on frozen crust is totally crazy awesome. pick up speed galore. watch breaking thru top layer, face plant city with possible broken ski to boot. been there done that my face looked like i had a fight with a gang of wild cats. we live for these conditions. also groovy for mountain biking traction maximus. no trails needed. yo eric great videos. u puppies r having way too much joy.
BEAUTIFIL ,only the SNOW very HARD in the SUNSHINE
Skiing-skiing!!!
EXCELLENT VIDEO PRO GRADE SUPER FUN
Love your videos
Thank you for the kind comments!
Одно из лучших видео на UA-cam про беговые (XC Skiing) лыжи
Someone help me stop watching this video!
W H Happy you enjoy the video!
amazing camera work, did you guys use a drone or a stabilisator?
Hello! Thanks for amazing video! What kind of skis are good for these conditions and for this type of xc skiing?
Any skate cross country ski will do! We prefer race skis because they are stiffer and provide better edge grip when the snow is icy. I personally ski on "Rossignol X-ium Premium" skate skis, but any ski will serve to get you out there.
ooooh somebody got da turnamics
Excellent! What kind of camera was used?
Thanks! I shot it 100% on the GoPro Hero 5 Black
Do you use some type of gimbal?
Wow...
wowww.. you have me drooling...can mere mortals get here... or do you need to get in by helicopter.......
zydeco sailor This terrain is all road accessible!
"I was going to say... dont' actually step"
Glass animals... how appropriate for conditions.
How do you get to these places? Can you drive, or do need a heli?
jl a Thanks for the question! All of the skiing in the video is accessible by car here in Southcentral Alaska. No helicopter required!
Thanks! The Alaskan chamber of commerce ought to pay you for these video. Also, thanks for turning me on to Scott & Brendo.
Where’s Whittier pass? Is that the Portage pass trail?
Yep! Accessed from Portage Lake. You definitely have to first make sure the ice is safe!
I'd fall into a crevasse...
Классно снято и смонтировано.

For some reason I get the feeling this is 3D generated, lol
The slow motion + gimbal stabilizer gives it that effect. I shot all of these clips while skiing with the camera myself - no drone used!
@@eric.packer hello one year later :) Great job! I can't imagine how tough it is to get such great shots - regardless of the equipment - when you're navigating the snow all at once.
Wanted to put like, but the video is not available for viewing :(
Sorry the hear that! I'm working on it!
Eric Packer 👍
Try watching on a computer! That may fix the problem!
