LoL, and here we go, with the absolutes..... Ok, I'll play along. So then, we'll jus sweep the likes of steve Howe, lindsey Buckingham, peter Frampton, mark knopfler, buddy Guy and django Rheinhardt-----to name but a few - - - - under th table for now....
ofc there are many incredible players out there.....joe satriani is fire ofc...........but there are many many special players.personally i like rory gallagher, the work he did in the song a millions miles away(and ofc other songs).....and im feeling travelling in space when i hear the solo of stairway to heaven live in 1974......
My inspiration as a guitarist grew from my musical experience from Satriani!!! The way he trained Steve Vie and his love of Hendrix....man, I loved Hendrix too...Thank you Joe for everything!!! Keep rocking on my man!!!!
"Flying in a Blue Dream" far and away my favorite Joe Satriani song. Love all his music? But this song has always just spoken to me. Might not be under-rated? Under-appreciated? It's a pretty cool video accompanying this version too. Nicely done. Hard to make one of the coolest songs ever? Even cooler? This video gets pretty damn close. Only thing I'd have done differently? I always pictured Joe flying on the back of a Joe-sized blue Ibanez 7 string guitar, while playing another blue Ibanez 7 string. Same basic idea? But make the guitar the spaceship. Kinda like updating the guitars as spaceships on the covers of Boston's first two albums. I dunno. It seemed like a really cool idea while I was thinking about it? Now? Not as sure. Truly though? That's the only thing I'd modify in this video. And I'm not a CGI wizard as the creator of this video obviously is? But I would like to believe it'd be a fairly straightforward process simply creating that blue Ibanez 7 string ship (with Joe reclining comfortably as he's playing and flying?) and then just dropping or inserting it into the space occupied by the silver spaceship in this video. I think I've always imagined that Joe was controlling his flight through the Blue Dream just by playing his guitar. I dunno. Maybe it's more complicated than I suspect and that's why this ship is flying instead. Anyway. One person's two cents.
This was the most anticipated album i could remember. I had been playing and learning the Surfing album religiously for a year and when i got this home and played this first track i couldn't believe it, the hair on my arms stood up i had goose bumps i had never heard any piece of music so profound before
i remember hearing surfin’ on the old fm driving through the flatlands of Illinois late night for the shit job i had at the time. Steve Dahl and Gary Meyer, djs out of Chicagoland played every tune on that disc every night. i was hooked ever since. this cut is one of his best.
This was the first CD I ever had. My brother bought it for me after he gave me my first CD player as a gift - Otherwise I would have had nothing to play on it.
I got the shirt from the show that never happened. Ottawa Bluesfest.😮 When the stage came down on Cheap Trick... Joe was up next on the other stage. Then mayhem. I just stood there eating a hotdog. It was surreal. My favourite song ever.
I just love how Joe has changed up this song thru the years ...almost like the song matured or “evolved” 30 years later..who’s with me on this thought?
@@user-dz9yx3et9y it has. Some licks are different live, and i think they work well. Hey, even the start of the main riiff, he plays it differently live, and it's better.
Being my favorite guitar players teacher says a lot. But your guitar playiny says it all. Thank you for your awsome talent. Kirk hammet definitely learned from the best. 😘❤️🤘😝🤘
Watching this video gives me goosebumps I would love to watch this on a big screen with surround sound unbelievable my two younger siblings my brother and my sister passed away in the last three and a half years and they truly love this song that's what I Vision them doing up there they're riding in a blue dream together drinking a cold Bud having a great time together thanks for posting this it was beautiful
Man the original comment almost broke me in half. First let me just say Joe Satriani is without question one of the greatest guitar players to walk the Earth ever and I seriously doubt will ever be truly matched and you can forget about anyone surpassing his over all mastery of not just the guitar but the music catalog he has written and recorded thru the years, but I digress ~ Flying In A Blue Dream is 100% inspired. So it's understood that means Joe composed it while "in spirit"....taking nothing away from Joe writing the song, on the contrary it's a huge compliment imo. So my mom died in 1993 at 54yo from lung cancer. She started smoking at 14yo and exactly 40 years later she passed on, leaving her body she then experienced something I call Flying In A Blue Dream......30 years ago I silently dedicated this song to my absolutely wonderful mom, her name is Grace and she wears it well. I've never told anyone til now, not that it matters to anyone's thoughts but mine..... Before I get gone I read a guys comment to Luminous Flesh Giants about 2 years ago and here's what he said. "When I die I want my friends to smoke my ashes while this song is playing at my funeral/memorial".................. Joe Satriani is quite possibly one of the most powerful people to ever play the guitar. Fortune and Fame, financial gain, mainstream understanding of success have nothing to do with me and mine and what I call POWER THAT MONEY CAN'T BUY. Any dirt bag can stoke the flames, just look around. Last time I checked top floor is difficult to access especially when the elevator only goes down....time for me to fly, that's what I'll do if I have it my way. Enjoy the ride, maybe I'll see ya around
In 1992 I got a disk with 10 tracks of different guitar performances. I don't remember the list but there were two guitar tracks that changed a lot of me listening to guitarist and music. once was Adrian legg. Second was Satriani. that was the first time I've heard that. It changed my music attention forever
Just like Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure movie type graphics instead phone booth it has The Last Starfighter version going through Time Vortex 👍😉💯🥰
Whoever created that vid to music Is a legend the two are a pretty powerful mix . This track got me many years ago , it led me to a few satch concerts , he played bourmouth pavilions , yep got a ticket and a a great concert , , this song was what inspired me years before , , Got to love the satriani as a legend in the electric guitar movement. , even bought an Ibanez. Replica to put on the wall , Yep sad as can’t play , more an expensive trophy to a guy who changed the movement xx👍
