This is the best channel for English speaking. I never had to use a dictionary. The conversations are so fluent, explaining every single detail. Thanks a lot.
I really needed to get out of the class for lunch break. At about noon, a couple of colleagues and i went down to the cafe of the college to have a break between English class and math class. I had a sandwich and warm drink and enjoying chat with students all over the world with different country and different cultures. I think it's nice to chat in a more relaxed environment , enjoying our meals and have proper chat.Once we wrapped up, i went back up.
Wow - sounds like a very productive lunch break! Usually I sit quietly and look at my phone while I eat 😅 Chatting to other students from around the world must be very interesting!
Hi teachers, I'm from Italy, in the north of Italy. During all my professional experiences (I'm 49) I never got to eat in the lunch break for more than one hour. I often eat at my desk in this way I can eat and check my personal email and chat
Very interesting - thanks for sharing! I suppose it's a stereotype in the US and the UK that in France, Spain and Italy everyone gets long lunch breaks, to drink coffee (or Aperol) and relax on a beautiful terrazzo before they go back to work - I think we're just jealous. 😄
Hi guys, thank you for this episode. I was on crowdcast on Monday but couldn't find the send button😂 to ask you a question, so let me do it here. Actually, I've got two questions: 1. "mate" is common in British English and what about "buddy"? 2. What sets the eatery apart from the café? Is it also typical for Britain? Thank you
Hello! Sorry about the problem in the live class, but thanks for letting us know because now we can look into it! Great questions too! 1.) "Buddy" is definitely more common in the USA. I can imagine an American person saying: "He's a good buddy of mine." and a British person saying: "He is a good mate of mine." 2.) Honestly, we didn't have time to discuss it in the live class, but an "eatery" is not a super common word in BrE or AmE. An "eatery" is anywhere where you go to sit down and eat a meal: a restaurant, a cafe, a bistro, a sushi bar, a steak house, etc. So an "eatery" is a very general term, while a "cafe" is typically a smaller place that serves coffee, has a smaller menu than a restaurant, and probably closes at 4 or 5pm. (So having dinner a cafe is not common at all - you would go to a restaurant for dinner). I hope that makes sense! Hopefully we'll see you again in the next live class and we can explain to you in person :)
I just find out this channel and I definitely love it. My English level is not so good yet, but I decided challenge me and just listen and watch this great video lesson. Greetings from Brazil.
Wow, that is so wonderful to hear! English is a journey, and we are happy to be a part of your English journey. We hope you continue to improve week by week😌😌
Excellent and enlightening explanation of how the native speaker thinks about the use of up and down after some words. I never understood why they use these add-ons so much.
Your lessons are off the charts. Pls keep it up, folks. These types of podcasts where both British and American English are well explained will definitely help us master the language in no time. Thanks so much for your great effort, KAT & MARK!
I can say that, I am really impressed with your outstanding approach of teaching. My impression Is derived from the way you understand the mentality of the English learners. You are proactively answer questions I have in mind without asking. I wish I can see 1000 video here
I'm happy because of you two , I really respect you and your dedication you are trying to give us something special and priceless, I'm an English learner and I'm trying my best I hopefully reach your level out it is one of my dreams 😢😢😢
I really like this podcast. How the teachers talking each other is like sharing culture as well. Me in Indonesia never have lunch break like that because I will eat in front of laptop, working while eating and when cust needs my help. I will stop eating and continue to work. UK is my dream lunch break culture.
Yes! It's very common to eat our desks in America as well, especially in customer service, I completely understand. Thanks so much for joining us!! Hope you have a lovely rest of the week and you can hopefully enjoy your lunch a little longer tomorrow 😆
Thank you very much for your collaboration. I have enjoyed every lesson and feel that I have improved my understanding. Please don't stop, I will continue to follow and enjoy your courses.
You both are amazing teachers. I came across you by chance. I was really enthusiastic to improve my English. You speak clearly and teach what we need to learn for real life. I’m learning English by myself after I was old. I was impressed by your teaching talent. I’m sure I will learn English with your videos. Thanks.
Thank you very much for doing this amazing work for advanced learners like me. This is what I needed most, but I have an idea of explaining news articles. I mean, I have this problem with common and spoken vocabulary, phrases, and colloquial language when it comes to talking about certain ideas and concepts, such as animals, crimes, weather, personalities, and so on. For example, how about picking a news article and explaining it by breaking down some hard vocabulary words and colloquials? I think it will be a pretty good way to expand vocabulary.
Thank you for your kind words and interesting new ideas for new topics! The news and articles are written a particular way that we really only use when reading articles. This might be a good idea for advanced learning that we might approach in the future ☺️
Many thakns for both teacher mark and kate. I am really happy coming cross on your channel. It's extremely useful to improve my english in all aspects❤
Wow. Thank you so much. ❤ There are a bunch of good expressions in this video as well. I love your accent and pronunciation because it's very clear and easy to understand. Of course, it's not 100%. My English level is low. 😂 But that's okay. I will improve with your help. Mark, Kat~~~~😊 Thank you so much again for your help.
Thanks so much for listening Laila! We're looking forward to having you for our next video :) We go live every Monday www.crowdcast.io/@highlevellistening so we'll see you there!
