Description:
🎧 Gear up for a healthy and invigorating episode of the Advanced English Podcast! Join hosts Kat Teacher from the USA and Mark Teacher from the UK as they discuss their commitment to fitness and staying active. This episode is not only a journey through different workout routines but also a fantastic opportunity for advanced English learners to pick up fitness-related vocabulary and cultural insights.
🇺🇸 Kat from the US shares her passion for staying active, detailing her thrice-weekly gym visits. She describes her workout routine, which includes a blend of cardio and strength training, and her love for group classes. Kat emphasizes the importance of flexibility and mobility, explaining her warm-up and stretching routines. She also enjoys taking short walks in the park or her neighborhood, highlighting the mental benefits of exercise in addition to physical health.
🇬🇧 Mark from the UK echoes a similar commitment to fitness, with a regular gym schedule that also combines cardio and weightlifting. He expresses his enjoyment of group classes and the importance of maintaining flexibility and mobility through proper warm-up and stretching. On days he can't hit the gym, Mark opts for brief walks around his locality. He underlines the role of exercise in stress relief and mental well-being, not just physical fitness.
📚 As they discuss their routines, Kat and Mark break down the specific English terms and expressions related to fitness and health, making it an ideal learning resource. Whether you're a fitness enthusiast or just interested in different lifestyles, this episode provides both language education and a peek into the fitness cultures of the UK and USA.

When I'm stressed out, I call my friends and we go shopping or something window shopping. It's really very helpful to unwind and relieve the stress.
That sounds like a great way to relax! Thanks so much for sharing
Again great job done and I am a big fan of your teaching acumen.
Thanks so much for your kind words and for studying with us!
I listen to your lessons and take notes. I put all the new words and phrases in the application, in which I create my own flashcards. Every your lesson makes my ears more sensitive to English, my pronunciation improves with you. Never stop because I have only A2!!!

How funny! I felt completely identified when you mentioned being committed to improving our English and it being kind of a New Year's resolution🤗. That's why I'm so grateful for having found you guys🤩
I've always been big on exercising and eating healthy (or healthily?) . Nowadays, my usual routine involves a fast-paced walk and some yoga. Sometimes, I also work out.🤸♀🤸♀
That sounds like a great routine!
You can also say: "Eating healthy" and "Eating healthily" - they are both correct :)
We're glad we're a part of your new year's resolution and English journey!
Thank you dear teachers. I am an old man, about sixty. Unfortunately, I do not go to the gym. But I do some exercise at home a few times a week. I usually do some, strtching to keep my body flexible and to avoid having sore muscles.
That's great! Thanks so much for joining us and studying with us! I think doing *anything* is better than doing nothing - so even if it's just stretching that's still great! Hopefully we helped your brain "stretch" with some new English as well :)
to blow off steam ,you can also go up to the terrace and shout loudy, or boxing on the pillow
Interesting ideas, remember though, 'blowing off steam' is supposed to be something fun. So screaming or punching a pillow is more like "letting it out" - releasing your pent up stress.
Thank you so much ❤
You're very welcome! Thanks for studying with us
I go out for a long walk 3 times a week, that helps me clear my mind, feel better and de-stress
That sounds like a wonderful way to relax thanks for sharing!
I have been learning a lot from you all. Thank you so much!
You're very welcome! Thanks for studying with us!
Nice work
Thanks for studying with us!
I've learned so many things from your class today. Every time the topic and expressions are so useful. Thank you so much!❤
committed to, the gym, be big on something, stay active, hit the (place), regimen, slot it in, involve, work out, sore, blow off steam, clear my mind, de-stress
Wow - well done picking up all that new vocabulary! Your efforts will definitely make a big difference to your English understanding!
You two are a great team , love you guys !
Thank you so much we’re happy that you’re here!
Thank you so much, this is a great job.I appreciate it
Thank YOU for watching:)
i usually spend one hour on doing some strench exercises at home and have been doing this for at least 7 years. sometimes i just miss it if i 'am not feeling really in mood or a tad tired. but that makes me feel like i am a bit of lazy and not finished task for that day.
Nice job using the vocabulary from this class! I think everyone feels a little bit guilty when they skip a workout. I definitely don't stretch enough!

I liked all your videos guys, I loved how u explain everything clearly, well done!
But I have a suggestion if u read mine, I just wondering if u can make a recap for all phrases that u used in the season and the expressions in 1 page of pdf or 1 video, or if u already did it please let me know, I'm so interested, thank you so much
Hello! Thanks so much for your lovely comment and question.
www.youtube.com/@highlevellistening/membership
We do give students something to take away after each episode, if you become a High Level Listening member, you get a PDF Transcript of the episode. That will have every word of the episode on it, so you can use that like a list or phrases and expressions to help you remember. Hope that helps!
@@highlevellistening
You are welcome, nice!
You mean that pdf has a list in it or I should to read every single word and extract what I need?
You will have to take the transcript and extract the words and phrases you find most useful or ones that are new for you. :)
@@highlevellistening
I will, thank you so much
Interesting browning off the steam and de stress, wow
Burning off steam/de-stress/de-compress/clear your mind
all great advantages of staying active!
I enjoy your video! Thanks for your work!
Kay, how can be your student in the USA? I moved to the USA and would like to practice my English more and have some classes.
Do you have online or in-person lessons?
Hi! Welcome to the U.S.! As of right now, we’re very busy with the UA-cam channel, so I’m not taking on any new students, but Verbling and italki are both great platforms for one on one lessons! Hope you continue to enjoy the videos, have a great evening ☺️
Your videos are a must-have for me! I enjoy them. Thank@@highlevellistening for your suggestions. Have a good weekend :)
Dear English teacher what should I do to improve my English skills?
I do understand when my friends and my boss speaking English but sometimes i just can speak in English😅
I hope you understand what I write here and yes I need to improve my English to get my student visa and also better job😂😂
You should watch all of our videos of course! 😂 Just joking.
It's important to know that there were 2 different types of skills when you use another language. Listening and Reading are called [Input] and Speaking and Writing are called [Output]. With our UA-cam videos, podcasts and listening to conversations, you are getting practice with lots of [input]. However, the only way to practice [output] is to speak and write yourself. If you can find an English teacher where you can speak to them - that will help a lot. When you practice [output] you will also make mistakes, which a good teacher should correct. Language exchanges are also ways to increase your [output] - and with time and practice (and patience!) , you should be able to start speaking more quickly and easily in English. Hope some of that helps!
@@highlevellistening I want to improve my speaking skills and my write skills ☺
Good evening teacher I am glad to get your vedio but I wann have class for assent so how can I contact you .
I hit the gym twice a week for swimming and de-stress.
Nice! It feels good to get some exercise ☺️
I tried to take a walk daily either morning or afternoon just around the subdivision where I live in. I wanted to join the Zumba class but having a little one who is very clingy, that hinders me in joining a zumba sessions. Whenever I exercise at home my son would always hug my knees and never let me go. My only choice is to stop exercising and just eat instead. 😂
😂😂 it’s definitely harder when there’s a little one around, but I’m glad that you’re still making the effort to work out!
🤗🤗🤗🥰🥰
Thanks for watching!
Great job, do you have one on one conversation lessons?
Mark offers one on one lessons on Verbling if you’re interested ☺️ www.verbling.com/teachers/markfoley
Can some one explain me about the word quit 😊
Good question!
"Quit" and "quite" are two English words that are often confused due to their similar spelling, but they have very different meanings and uses:
Quit
Meaning: To leave, cease, or discontinue something. It can refer to leaving a job, stopping a habit, or exiting a place.
Usage: Used as a verb.
Examples:
"She decided to quit her job and travel the world."
"He quit smoking last year."
"I'm going to quit this game; it's too hard."
Quite
Meaning: To a very noticeable extent or degree; it can mean completely, entirely, or to a significant degree. It's used to modify an adjective, adverb, or verb, often for emphasis.
Usage: Used as an adverb.
Examples:
"The movie was quite interesting."
"She's quite good at playing the piano."
"It's quite cold outside today."
The key to distinguishing between the two lies in their part of speech (verb vs. adverb) and their meanings (to stop or leave vs. a degree of extent).
Often __we pronounce " ofen " but you pronounce of ten. Are the both pronunciation correct?
Both are correct, sometimes when we single out a word “off-ten” to give it more emphasis but in natural speaking it often (hehe) gets shortened to “off’n”
Whichever you prefer ☺️
Keep going iam listen most of video you are maked so useful so benefit to us my english going to better day by day thank uuuu so much for you
But do you have instagram account i wanna send follow to you ?
Thanks very much for the kind words! And yes we do have an Instagram account here: instagram.com/high.level.listening/
