In 2021, at 64 I moved to Mexico. I started learning Spanish then stopped. I realized I was telling myself "I'm too old." Rubbish. Here is my why: As far back as I can remember I've wanted to be bilingual. Here I am in a Spanish-speaking country. What a beautiful opportunity to fulfill this dream and make it possible for me to really connect with the people and culture.

I love to meditate on Psalm 23 every morning. So, I decided to recite it in Spanish. I found it on UA-cam and I read along with the reader 🎉. Thank you.

I want to be able to communicate better with my business partner. My frustration comes when my brain doesn't seem to be able to remember all the vocabulary that I've spent so much time trying to learn. Then I get frustrated and go for a long time without practicing. My plan for the New Year is to become more conscious of when I encounter those limiting beliefs about myself and then point myself in a more positive direction.

Ever since I was a little girl I was fascinated by the spanish language & the culture. As I started working at customer service jobs, I was always sad when I couldn’t communicate with a person who only spoke spanish. I always wished I was able to help them. The job that I’m currently at has spanish speaking cooks and I want to be able to communicate with them in their native language :)

Fantastic video. Always wanted to become fluent in Spanish. Several years ago I worked with Spanish speakers everyday, but now not around many Spanish speakers now…except for novellas😀
Reading out loud is a great idea you mentioned. I pretend I’m talking to someone which makes my practice session more interesting. I focus on introductions and directions. I wasn’t sure how I had progressed until I was in the Dollar store and a shopper in broken English asked me where I had got something and I told him in Spanish where it was located. I thought, yeaaa😂😂😂

Spanish for me is a hobby. It is my me time. It exercises my mind in a tangible way. I enjoy it. I don’t have the opportunity to converse with anyone and for this reason I probably won’t become fluent. I do travel to Spanish speaking destinations occasionally and I like to use my Spanish at these times. It’s a journey.

I have a few neighbors who are native Spanish speakers. We all have been neighbors for years, but we only manage to speak pleasantries to each other. We never have genuine conversations due to the language barrier. We have always been friendly with each other, but I would love to be able to call them friends and truly have meaningful conversations with them.

Learning Spanish is important to me for 3 main reasons: 1)As a political activist speaking more than one language allows me to communicate with more people, especially in this hemisphere 2) as a seasoned citizen, this learning will hopefully stall the cognitive decline that comes with age 3) Spanish is a beautiful language

I just about lost my mind at your full introduction en español- I can tell you do not play! Language is fascinating to me, and I have always felt called to it in some way. I studied Spanish in grammar and high school, Chinese for ministry, a little German and Urdu in college and now French after falling in love with Paris. I believe there is a polyglot in me, so I’m brushing up on Spanish and Chinese and learning French. I really appreciate the admonition to resist all or nothing thinking. I fell off my daily practice a couple of days and refuse to give up!

To be honest English became my second language since I've already know Portugues (my first language) now I intend to learn Spanish and I feel like.. it's completely possible because Portugues and Spanish are extremely similar... I understand a lot. By the way I've been watching your history's channel to improve and increase my vocabulary.. I can't thank you enough, I hope you have a great new year. Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷

Thank you for the encouragement at the new year. your course has been a fantastic inspiration and really showed me how much more I need to practice than I did on my own. It has been the focus I needed to work even harder! You are correct about confidence and it gets better everyday. The consistency is key. One will learn something new everyday. Learning a language is fun and exciting. When it gets too hard your team breaks it down to simpler elements to keep going forward! Love that about your course! Do not be afraid of Spanish! Practice, practice, practice…..you can do it!

I want to be able to communicate with my Spanish friends more freely. I find sometimes that even though I know what I want to say,I trip over my words. I put that down to absorbing a large amount of Spanish input and trying to use the new vocabulary and phrases... Onwards upwards and forwards, I will just keep going! I now have a Spanish speaking flatmate so watch this space ❤

I always wanted to be bilingual. I made a goal for myself to learn a different language every year. Spanish was my first choice because I’ve grown up in Spanish speaking neighborhoods in the Midwest. I now live on the West Coast and it’s mostly Spanish speaking.

Having your own language plan is good-a great start. Even with my ‘why’, I found it difficult to execute. The addition of a language coach takes learning Spanish to a whole new level, you work on learning vs the execution of the plan. I will add a Spanish component to my morning ritual. Muchas gracias Érica! ¡Feliz Año Nuevo!

Why: My wife speaks spanish predominately and we attend a Spanish speaking church where a good majority of the attendees don't speak English or speak very little English. I know once I achieve fluency we will speak 100% Spanish in the house. It's a huge hurtle, if I'm honest, FEAR and feeling very uncomfortable. I realize I have more of an advantage than most learners in that I have Spanish ALL around me but ...
