Watch This Food Delivery Robot Roam the Streets of San Francisco | WIRED - Наука та технологія
So a human still has to follow it lol
boy638 at that point it's a oversized shopping cart, a flying drone thats fast is way more efficient
It's part of learning. Once the robot has learnt enough, it can use the learnt experience for future unchaperoned delivery
yeah i know right? how does it know when to cross streets, etc.. or they are controlled from the HQ in the future
Wolverine 7777 early access
Because they don't belong on the sidewalk where people are walking.
www.recode.net/2017/5/16/15648324/san-francisco-legislation-ban-autonomous-delivery-robots-sidewalks
A remote controlled fridge - so 2017
It should have a loud deep voice that goes "OUTTA MY WAY! HUMAN! *Charges foward regardless if you're infront of it or not*
Not having to be obligated to tip someone to do do their job is more than enough reason for me to be excited for this kind of thing.
wat if i push the robot over while its delievery
it weighs too much to do that
qRyann-X L chaperone will push you over
Good point. Once this product hits the market, what's to stop assholes from bringing some baseball bats and giving these guys an NYC massage?
Police drones will be on their way
qRyann-X L once one got in front of my car and it just died
"A human chaperone has to walk along side it to remote control it, if it gets confused."
So basically it’s useless…
You missed the point. It's still in the development stage. The robot's future is of course pure automation without a chaperone.
+TTate so it's still useless right now? That's what I said.
No, it's not useless, but its use is just not what you're thinking. It's no to deliver food, but to develop the tech.
TTate yea I get that, but self driving cars were announced like 5 years ago & still nothing. All I'm saying is wait to say "it works!" until it actually works. Mainly I'm blaming the people who organized the video.
Title: "Watch this robot deliver food! Omg!"
2 min in: "Needs a person to operate."
whoadoe yea I don't, but I'm a consumer which is a pretty important part since tech is developed for consumers...
My special code unlocks all of them... Hammer and chisel
So it crowds the already crowded sidewalks.
Dumb idea.
McRocket paved asphalt motorways are hardly 100 years old yet today pervade every street. with more establishment of autonomous vehicles streets could be far more different in the next 100 years.
Regarding Crowed sidewalks for robot delivery, Its OK if it runs into pedestrians as long as its not on a skate board or bike.
Its better that an electric delivery robot goes slowly down sidewalks, than people picking up their deliveries in dangerous personally driven cars.
thousands pizza delivery jobs will be gone once this takes off the ground.
It doesn't have to replace 100% of delivery jobs, just 50% or more
Good luck with that in suburban NJ, the pizzeria is 5 miles away. A car and a human is needed to deliver the pizza to your door. These robots are not street legal and they should not be on the sidewalk.
Imagine this robot in the hood.
Chappie?
David Wührer yup
Drug delivery!
Y E E T
it'll be a nightmare for anyone living in the financial district or chinatown, this bots gonna get so confsued and the amount if traffic will be difficult for the chaperone to get to the bot and push it and at that point, it's just a cart
Another job that 'eventually' will be completely replaced by a machine.
theres your 15$ minimum wage LUL
They are only meant for small transportations. That way, the delivery people can still make long trips to drop off stuff and will still make their money.
Doesn't matter what the wage is. Automation is coming, and it's going to take away A LOT of jobs.
you mean how the bookpress took away all dem jobs, or the railway or the industrialization or the internet ?
but asking for $15 didn't help.
bennynutts16 ...Who's gonna buy your shit, the robots, If the humans don't have fucking jobs. I'm guessing the educated fools haven't thought about that one huh.
No way this could work profitably.
People wouldn't steal the food in it, they would steal the robot instead.
That music you talking and seeing the robot delivering food to people made me happy ☺👍
THEY TOOK 'OUR JUBS!
Nice try yelp 24 but I won't fall for your tricks again
Tempted to rob the sensors on it if I see it
Alberto Mulero shit human being then mate 🐺 get some help.
"Without an ounce of human interaction" ... Umm, I thought that was a good thing ;-;
Thing has better rims than most civics i see being riced.
The robots being "Complimentary" to the drivers and taking the routes they don't want is how they get them in there to start. Give it enough time and they will be doing the regular deliveries as well.
Who else loves watching these robot videos it just makes me feel like the future is coming
wouldn't a drone be way more effecient? If the software works well.
In speed, probably; in energy, not at all.
Robot are complimenting delivery guys, until automated cars take that over too :P
There goes the delivery man
Can you opt out of robo-delivery?
Thank you, peace and love, Doug.
They should have a delivery robot that delivers your packages up to your door and says hasta la vista baby in Arnold Schwarzenegger voice.
People would probably pee and throw shit at this thing before it reach it's destination, and if not, probably be vandalized.
I dont see a version of this that does not clog sidewalks so I doubt something like this will actually catch on. However this is an interesting step into the future of robotics taking over basic jobs. A driverless car could drive to a customers home and the robot then rolls out of the car and approaches the home. That makes sense and completely removes the delivery job
Maybe a 360 view camera connected to a VR goggle. This is cool.
How do I *tip* that robot for job well done?
Roll it on it side...or TIP IT OVER!
Think a red party cup would fit over it's lazer sensor?
Or a bag, should sell for a pretty penny on ebay.
At least you don't have to tip it.
I would get in front of it and walk as slowly as possible, or drop a large box over it so that it couldn't navigate.
"the robot is complementary" to delivery personnel. In the near future, self driving cars will transform into delivery personnel. Good luck competing with robots.
Just wait, the moment when self driving cars are the norm, service lanes for robots like these will be there as well
This will start a new 24 hour challenge. Just you watch.
While I watch a video about how it works, UA-cam tries to suggest that I watch a video from BuzzFeed about them trying to steal food from one of these robots. I still find it funny that BuzzFeed tries to be an actual news source
Here's a design challenge I don't think they've addressed: That thing is a perfect, moving, white canvas for graffiti. I can imagine it instantly being tagged by someone with a can of spray paint. Can you imaging your artisinal cupcake being delivered by a robot plastered with "FAT YUPPIES GO HOME!"?
That a big robot
when the food you order is slower than people walking ... also it probably don't climb hills or stairs
How longer until ghost in the shell/deus ex look alike streets?
someone has got to brick it
Wouldn't your food smell like previous food in the container?
se botar isso no brasil nego rouba em 2 segundo
someone will steal that Go pro
Someone will destroy the whole bot
PresidentialWinner then ez jail sentence.
If a human operator has to go along side it "just in case", then why not just have that human drive the thing or - deliver the food himself?
Having a robot do the delivery offers no advantages unless it is fully autonomous. We're close, but not quite there yet.
JW3HH
It's still being developed into full automation. It obviously needs human help until they have perfected the bloody robot.
That's the point. We're not there yet, how else would the robot learn? In a lab? It has to go on real world sidewalks, with a human along to fix it when it gets stuck. That way they can learn and fix real world problems so one day the human doesn't have to be there
It should use the road.
This may take your delivery jobs, but if you learn how to repair these robots you will have a more meaningful job
Robot thefts will catch on.
I want my food DRONED to me!
Bet Japan will have this in no time of not already. New York too
hungry black ice intensifies**
what if it rains
too early, it only provide 360p
They took er jobs!
Put a paper cup over its camera eye
Put a picture of a very long tunnel over the camera eye!
Pure novelty value until people start to realise their jobs are going and get angry with the technology.
Put a chain on that thing and this robot can take over Uber as well.
How does it climb stairs?
the video said it doesn't
Rocket boosters.
I see the need for a new law. Intentionally hindering or blocking the forward progress of a robot delivery system...... Don't chill my dinner ba. In da hood they be tieing a rope from that bot to shopping cart.
I've just clicked through to here from a Buzzfeed video on another food delivery robot in San Francisco, which is smaller, faster, and can climb curbs. I am a bit disappointed by this Marble.
what if i break the cameras off?
UBI is coming
Why is that thing so big and creaky
but Door Dash can climb ledges
This is better than calling a chinese take out who steals your change and or forces you to tip and curses at you if you don’t tip sorry I don’t tip owners
a little clunky but I like it.
This thing is a freakin Studebaker
Keep your distance, It is a rolling radiation machine.
A lot of people will consider this new upcoming wave of robotics and AI a great threat and they are very right about it, but the fact is this has happen many times before, when the people invented concrete the stone builders become concrete workers, when the steam came the horses and those who delivered goods with caravans changed their jobs, when the telegraph was invented the handwritten letters was not needed and the post mailmen needed to adapt too and leave aside their horses, when the car came or the electricity how many jobs had been lost back then? too many i say! But new jobs arise in the place of the old ones, and those who could not adapt...well they cast themselves aside and didn't do anything. The word the society is a living organism if it wont move forward it will slowly die by itself , evolution did the same in a way.
Look, FREE FOOD.....SMASH!!!
Make a fucking delivery drone. Way more faster and no traffic.
Well I know what kind of music that robot listens to.
"Move, Bitch, get out the way, get out the way Bitch, get out the way." Assuming that was a female dog.
here comes the terminator it's no joke. when we don't have any money we can't pay your robot! humans are replacing themselves. we are fools.
The feel when the minimum wage goes to high
Hey weed delivery just got real
I need this robot i am roamingknight
This robot's much too big for the sidewalk and will just get in the way of everyone, the little ones in this video ua-cam.com/video/UPZwnc_Lk2M/v-deo.html are far more practical and I think after a few months you'd barely notice them.
shireknight01 na not true the big one can store way more food without squishing it up and no one could pick it up and run like in the other video
www.recode.net/2017/5/16/15648324/san-francisco-legislation-ban-autonomous-delivery-robots-sidewalks
They are making these things illegal on the sidewalk in San Francisco. And I can't see it working in NYC either, the sidewalks are crowded with people in Manhattan.
And I thought bikes on the sidewalk were bad.
how does it cross streets without causing traffic
Buzzfeeds delivery robot is better
I don't understand why people don't just turn them on their side
haha would 100% steal peoples food
Let's see how it deals with Indian traffic
Why isn't this this just a car? It's way too big to navigate sidewalks. Owning the data on navigating sidewalks must be worth a lot more to them than delivering pitas.
it it needs a human to basically control it why not just deliver the food yourself
roses are red violets are blue i saw grumpycat and so did you no rlly u see him somewhere in the video
So, I should learn a robotics now, instead of running around for a buck? So not fare! I'm going to turn Amish, damn you all! Washing clothes by hand, fixing a horse buggy...
No
Im the robot!
Could malfunction and run over someone.
this is old. the future is 3d print food cmon. no more delivery needed . btw im out, my 3d printed cheese burger is done.
Holy crap, I love California.
or the chaperone can ride the robot
If I saw that thing coming my way, I'd be tempted to vandalize it just based on the amount of sidewalk it's taking up.
if i see this shit ima break it
Erectin a Dispenser!
Charles Randolph Sentry going up
Teleporter goin up...
