- Vietnam War veteran Mike Wyrwas talks about his experiences. Wyrwas served in the United States Marine Corps from 1965 through 1968. He was living in Milwaukee when he joined the Marine Corps.
This guy was a great subject. He didn’t get too hung up on any tangents and answered every question succinctly with a lighthearted candor. He was like a database for any question you had about his service, a pleasure to listen to

My grandfather Terry Akers served in ‘Nam as a Green Beret. I’m so proud to be his grandson even though I didn’t know him well. He is now deceased. He killed himself. There should have been more help for our veterans. The veterans of Vietnam in particular. Thank you for your service, sir.

So sorry to hear that, the Vietnam war is still claiming American lives from suicide, addiction issues and agent orange.
Yeah there's no telling who is going to be okay with War who's not going to be okay with war my brother went to Afghanistan during 2001 and spent three years there I believe you and he came home one time after 19 months and he seen all kinds of crazy stuff and he was able to come back early fine and he knew other people than his unit were completely f***** as soon as I seen a kid was dead or something he seen it in their eye right away it's all up to what person can take not everyone can take seeing stuff of war for being in a war I myself never had a fight but I think I would be perfectly fine my grandfather fought world war II came back home with other grandfather fought in Vietnam my brother fought in Afghanistan came home that's got to be that German polish Irish blood just tough son of a b******

Glad you made it home Mike, hope you are well. The Vietnamese pooped in a corner of their house. They let it sit there until after the rice and gardens were planted and then they would put all that poop on a big flat basket and spread over the fields with their hands.

When I was in boot camp at Great Lakes my barracks was across the street from the Brig, of course the Marines were in charge of the brig. I learned real quick that’s a place I didn’t want to be LOL

I’m a milwaukeean too. What part of town? I went to Milwaukee west. Grad 1971. Lived on 24 and Vliet.
The interviewer often asks the soldiers if they think that they had changed after returning home from Vietnam. Surprisingly a lot of them say no I don't think I changed..That just seems impossible. No matter what ,they have definitely changed in most every way.. definitely grew up fast.. Mike ,I want to say thank you for standing up and doing what must have been terrifying. And glad you made it out alive.. Semper Fidelis..
Sometimes when something extraordinarily stressful happens to you. You think you should change or feel like I should be feeling something right now. I should have this emotion or that emotion.
Sometimes, I just feel nothing.
Maybe that's why it's sometimes relayed as I didn't change.
That has become part of the Vietnam vet myth.

I wonder one thing. With your videos can you actually get a question to the person who you have interviewed in them.
Thatd be great! Ive noticed the channel has yet to respond to any of these comment sections and it was probably a voluntary meeting in the first place, having no source information on these fine folks. They probably put a flyer up in city hall or in the Gazette, asking vets to call in to schedule an appointment for interview. Who knows. Youd have to do some tracking work and call the local businesses to hint em down
About the lack of views, I was in the Army in 1969 nobody gave a damn about us then, nobody cares about us now, we don't mind, we care about each other. 🤝
