What a beautiful machine. 1983 was the year that I got my first race bike, which was an '83 RM 80, and I almost shat myself when I first turned the throttle and hit the powerband. Before then, all I rode were four-strokes starting with my 1981 Honda Z50 before I was bumped up to my '80 XR 75. I was hooked instantly to that two-stroke power, and the icing on the cake was the authentic Full-Floater rear suspension system. It was like riding on a cloud over huge jumps and over the roughest terrain. Not long after that, I went racing at MX338 Southwick. Talk about addicted. Racing was better than any drug, I'm sure.

Never rode my new 83 stock. 82 head shaved probably too much, and timing change. . Holy Moly what a rocketship. Pulled 500s consistently off the gate. Had to ride it like an overgrown 125 with an attitude but I loved it at that age

When I put the DG pipe and silencer on it completely change the sound of the bike. And it was like a torquey125. Take care

I had the '87 myself. Before that was an '85 RM 125, which I was bumped up to from my '83 RM 80. We had an awesome Suzuki dealer here in Massachusetts, and my old man loved him because he always gave him great deals for cash. Overall, I think we purchased around 15 bikes and quads from him. The dealerships name was Deerfield Suzuki, and the owner was a pro racer himself named Kip Komosa. Great times.

Thanks again, iam building a bike at the moment, iam in the uk, so our vin numbers are a little different to the states i think,i thought mine was a 82 model, but the vin number starts RJ11A....... the manual has that number down as a 81 model, which it cant be as mine is water cooled,i contacted suzuki uk who said it was a 83 model, but the manual says they start with RJ12A so it has me confused, mine has the black triple tree, ive just got a 82 swing arm and the bars that attatch to the linkage, and the bars wouldnt fit the linkage, i had to bend them out of shape to go into the linkage, then bend them back, do u think mine is a 83 model, going off that vin, iam building a bike from parts that i keep buying you see, thanks for your help,
      Rick

DG still carried the 83 National pipe and silencer about a year ago. I purchased both for a 83 250 project. I put a 82 head on mine like so many RM enthusiasts recommended. It was difficult to source one. I knew CMSL had a couple in stocks. I found a used one in pristine condition for 60 bucks. If you don't mind me asking, what are your jetting numbers your running on the 38 MM flat slide Mikuni? I owned a 85 F Model and had it jetted perfect. That was 36 year's ago and lost my notes over the year's.
They are great running bike's for a non power valve motor. Simplicity at it's finest and making gobs of horsepower. Please advise jetting if you can. Thank you.
    Jeff Davison. Saginaw, Michigan.

If you want to sell it I’ll buy it. I haven’t decided whether I’m going to actually use this bike or not. It is crazy how much bikes have gone up just in the last year I sold my CR 500 last year for $4500. I had a call within five minutes and somebody from Australia was calling me. He’s not gonna get that much for it. I’ll be curious to see if the 8283’s go up in value. They have not been thought of as desirable as other makes.

Australia 1983 and my father and i are trading in my RM125X for the new D model in our local motorcycle dealership, the salesman on the floor tries to sell my father a RM250 as he thinks i should be upgrading from the 125 ,i was more than happy to stay in the 125 class so we never went home with a new 250 BUT what did happen was and i still dont understand how it happened,my father got talked into buying the last RM500 on the floor at a considerable discount and that came home alongside my 125,he left it crated for at least 3 months and eventually over a bbq with hes workmates they all put it together,2 hours later my father started it and after its heat cycle he rode flat out up our driveway which was near 2 kilometres long ,he came back parked it in the hayshed ,threw 3 tarpaulins over it drained the fuel and it never moved till 2015 when it sold when he sold the property

My rims are silver , ( aluminum clear coated ) my Uncle bought the bike in Green Bay Wis. in 1984 , after we checked out every manufacturer , we ended up back at the Suzuki dealer , I was 16 , worked for him for years after school and during the summers , one day I got to work , he said we’re going to Green Bay to get bike , I was excited ! I’m getting a new bike ! We got home , took it off the truck , and he said ? Now go get your bike , I was confused , I said isn’t this my bike ! He laughed ! I got his 1982 YZ 125 , never rode my CR80 again , bought the RM from him in 2015 , his last ORV permit was a 1992 , I went thought it , put on a new back tire , air filter , changed the oil & prestone , rode it 3 times , and haven’t ridden it since , my hands hurt , hard to hang on , we rode a lot when I was younger , I finally gave up begging for him to ride , bike has its 2nd rear tire after original , and it’s still like new , a one rear tire bike , I gave it a nice bath last summer , it’s first real bath , no just hosed off , it looks like new
