Hi Ross
Thanks for the video.
A few weeks ago I sent a photo of a fig I wanted identified& you suggested it could be a Desert king.
I knew it wasn’t the latter because I have a DK & was able to compare.
Watching this video of yours tells me that it’s most likely a Lafita because the second crop is now starting to turn yellow. When ripe I’ll be able to tell by the flesh if it’s definitely a kadota.
Thanks again
Kriton
Oh dear Lafita is meant to be kadota.
Hi Ross. Wow, this is an old video of yours.
. I am picking up a couple of Kadotas soon.. I believe it is a variety grown in Calabria, Italy where my mother in law grew up. So it will be a gift for her, and 1 for me.
Can u please tell me if you were able to get fruit growing during the first yr?
Thanks for doing this taste test. All I needed was your approval and I was hooked
Thanks
that looks fantastic. now i need to find the Azores dark. A buddy has the Azores white.
Never heard of Azores White. Got any pictures, Guiomar? I'd love to see it.
I will try to get some.
Is the flavor of the kadota fig really similar to the Marseilles? It looks really similar
Im in zone 8b and my local nursery just got the kadota fig...i think im gonna get 2
What size containers are those that you're using for the figs. And where did you get them?
I would recommend grow bags for growing figs. That way you never have to root prune your trees every 2 years. Fig trees quickly become root bound and will decrease in productivity if left unpruned for too long. Grow bags prevent them from becoming root bound. You can get them at Greenhousemegastore in bulk for cheap. 5 gallon to 40 gallon containers. If using hard plastic containers, the nice thing about them is that you can bury them a few inches deep in the ground. The roots will grow out into the surrounding soil and make the tree more productive. When it gets cold you unbury the pot and store them for the winter.
I want kadota.
Do you prefer Kadota or peters honey?
Neither. Too late and bothered by rain here.
Well yea but more about the taste for me. I have a longer growing season and less rain here in North Carolina I can’t decide between the 2. I do know that our humid weather is a concern but I missed a chance at the LSU champagne
I would wait and go with Champagne. It's much better.
