    I doo NOT believe it... I have just watched the first 2 minutes of this weeks video and have to message you. We bought our 'dream boat' out of Galmpton Creek in 2009, we are in our 70's and this is our retirement European / Coastal cruising Motor Yacht. We restored a fire damaged (gutted) GRP boat in the 1970's and have owned, and improved' boats all our married lives. We never had the resources, wherewithal or guts to be other than 'vacation' sailors, unlike your family who obviously have the latter two attributes in spades. Now we are retired we have great ambitions but limited abilities. We 'live' on our boat for about half of each year and are currently moored in Ireland. We have followed you for the past year and can not express adequately the admiration and support we feel towards all of you - not least because we feel we are / have been on such similar tracks in so many respects. I also have to say that your previous video which mentioned Andy's depression sparked the following thought - whilst depression is obviously an organic issue it very frequently centres around self confidence, Andy; never ever, even on your darkest days, doubt your value as a human being - everything about your behaviour on this channel illustrates your worth. Good luck.

    Boat looks great even from across the pond in Newfoundland. Regarding your keel step mast. My boat has a keel step mast and here in Newdoundland at our marina in Holyrood, We pull our masts out every year for winter storage. To seal the opening in the deck, I use a piece of 3/4" plywood , painted that is 1 " wider all around than the mast ring at the deck. The underside of the plywood has a strip of neoprene weatherstripping that is glued to the plywood so that when it sits on the mast ring, its edges is in the middle of the weather stripping. There is a fine threaded rod approximately 1/4" in diameter that is secured to the plywood at its center. The rod is long enough to pass into the boats interior and pass the mast clamp ring on the interior headliner by an inch. A piece of 1" thick hardwood approximately 1.5" wide x the width of the clamp ring + 2" is used to slide up over the threaded rod . Using a threaded handle/ knob that can thread onto the rod, you tighten the hardwood against the clamp ring. Tighten the hardwood until there is no light visible between the weatherstripping and the edge of the mast ring. Your mast ring is now water tight. This works all the time and is reusable every year. By the way the weather in Newfoundland is much worse and variable than what you have in England. So being used to wet and cold is normal for us. Good luck and Merry Christmas to you and your family.

    Love your Bowman. For a family of 4 the layout is fantastic with the separate kids aft cabin, very secure (yes very small as well cockpit).
    Almost identical layout to our Rival 38 Centre Cockpit. But in our case, for 2 adults, having a great double bed in the aft cabin works better. Look forward to meeting on the water somewhere someday!

    Congratulations on the Bowman 46. She is beautiful.
    We built a 53 foot yawl that was based on the 46 and looked just like a bigger version. Same centre cockpit and coach roof. Don Pye and David Cooper (of Holman and Pye) designed her. We built her ourselves in foam sandwich fibreglass in the mid 1970's.There were 3-6 of these bigger, much heavier at approx. 25 ton (cruising displacement) 46's built around the world. 2-3 in foam, one of aluminium in France. I believe one in steel in Australia. The first one was built for a business man in Colchester, she was called Nylanni. They sailed wonderfully and never slammed in a heavy sea and were fast! The Beam was 15ft 7 inches. Bowman's built his interior and liked the boat so much that they commissioned Holman & Pye to design the Bowman 57. However, the route out of Halmatics? yard, or into Bowman's (who laminated the hull) was narrow and so even though the 57 was bigger she had to have a beam under 15ft, hence the 57 having a beam of 14ft 8inches.
    Just thought this might interest you as to the design history.
    Best regards
    Simon

    I am constantly amazed by Captain Jack's presenting skills! He is a natural, "Tim is over there checking the rigging, and a mighty fin job he is doing of it" laughed so hard!!! I get the feeling the decision on which boat to keep has been made? I was having panics every time Melissa was anywhere near the ladder or edge of the boat, Please be careful, are there rails to be fitted? If Melody was to be sold what a great set of adverts for what improvements have been done you have got! Waiting eagerly to see next weeks episode

      He is great isn't he 😁😁
      Don't worry I'm being extra careful and avoiding unnecessary trips up the ladder, we hope in time to fit a solid rail all the way round the boat. We will be in the water very soon so no more ladder trips 😀

    Welcome to Devon! Congratulations on the little one in the oven! New boat looks fantastic, with not too much to be done. The Dart is a beautiful place, have had my boat there for over 2 years now, it's that yellow 24 footer over the creek, difficult to miss. Highly recommend the walk down to Greenway and long wood to Kingswear, lovely in the spring. Hope all goes well with the rig and engine. Maybe see you if your still about :)

    • @thomasmartin9078
      @thomasmartin9078 2 роки тому +1

      @@SailingMelody Hope it all goes well, best of luck with the sea trials. With Andy's practicalities and engineering tendencies I'm sure any obstacles will be overcome. And with Melissa having done your day skipper around Dartmouth, the sea trails will go smooth in familiar waters. Valhalla is on the pontoon at Dolphin Haven, aft of the Wharram Cat, foreward of the Bruce Spray. Can see her as you drive into Dartside. She's being lifted early January for maintenance, replacement seacocks and bottom paint.

    What a beautiful boat. Of course some things need to be fixed here and there but nothing to be compared to Melody!
    The only disadvantage is this boat does not have anything like Melody's pilot house and so like most sailboats, the living space is pretty dark. But the perfect boat does not exist and it seems you made the right choice buying this one. Jack and his brother/sister will have all the space they need.
    Much work ahead preparing both boats now, except if you find someone interested in Melody right now.
    Have a wonderful Christmas.
