@@Poblo12345 there’s probably more fatal accidents on the road due to lack of sleep, than ppl taking their proper medications as they’re prescribed.. I pressure wash currently, semi tractors and trailers, heavy equipment etc. and at one of our jobs one guy was sitting in his peterbuilt smoking a joint with the windows up (Calgary, AB) and I wondered how this was ok..? I lm also on suboxone for opioid addiction and have been for 6-7 yrs. I can get my Q endorsement and class 3 and drive a 5 ton truck with air brakes tho. And as of now I drive 1 ton truck with over 6500lbs of water on top of the GVW, but would be unable to get my class 1 according to some drs..
@@LJT9393 Im a nurse practitioner that performs DOT exams. The driver that is smoking a joint in the cab of his truck could/should have his license revoked.

Brings up the question If you are taking a medication that is prescribed for a specific medical condition, and that medication is also prescribed for seizures and that’s not the same condition that you have and are taking it for if that’s an automatic disqualification. Example Neurontin/Gabapentin and others
If you have a seizure condition you need to have passed the appropriate waiting period (ex. 8 years). If you take the meds for a different reason you will need to have the prescribing doctor clear you.
I have question? What happens if you took medication years ago and you no longer take it. Would I still need a note. I have it in my chart that I no longer require the medication
Dr. Nuesse how about taking the following medications prescribed by a Neurologist for Migraine Prevention, one of them is on the automatic disqualification list. I have been taking it for years without any complications. The medications are - Topamax, Depakote and Paxil.

hello doctor i have question for my medical card about to expire on the 21st of this month cause my A1C was high i was unable to take my physical it was 11.3 so i never even went for my new physical my doctor just gave some medication to go along with my metformin i been losing weight along but did not understand why my A1C was high cause i was at 330lbs now iam at 275 lbs and still losing weight but yet A1C was high i just pick new medication to start so dont know yet how its working if my license gets downgrade how long do i have if any to reinstate it cause i really hope i dont have to do cdl all over again its been doing this for 36 years and like to keep working have a nice day thx

I can't find anything specific regarding Xarelto. Would you recommend the clearing letter from prescribing MD for this as well? Pt with chronic RLE DVT and repaired ASD in November 2021 on anticoag now likely long term.

The thing about methadone is that it doesn’t show up in the database as a “prescription,” like Suboxone does. That and methadone doesn’t show up on a dot screen.

Quick question, if you're prescribed an amphetamine/methylphenidate and you only take it for the first year or 2 lets say...you decide to come off of it. At the next medical Physical, if you are clear of amphetamines on your urine test will you be able to take your physical every two years or will it stick to being every single year for the rest of your driving career?
It would be possible to qualify for 2 years but may depend on other factors. This is up to the doctor doing the exam. Thanks for checking out the video!

So glad i finally came across this! Not sure if i will qualify, because i'm on antidepressants and cpap!! So even with the clearance letter for the paxil. Will i most likely be disqualified, because I have another issue, sleep apnea?

My doctor just prescribed Cymbalta to me. I don't go back to the the doctor until the middle of March. What should I do about my CDL's? Do I go to the DMV or should I get another medical DOT. My Medical DOT is good until June.

Idk about that. I have Sickle cell Anemia and I'm prescribed Oxycodone and hydromorphone.. Taken as needed which for me isn't everyday more only when in pain and when in pain I don't even get outta bed...spelled those wrong im sure but I need a clearance letter and still have a hard time getting a job that isn't with Western Express smh. I understand you would probably certify someone who is taking Suboxone provided they had a letter from their doctor saying it was OK. But what do you feel most other examiners would rule on this? What do you think the odds are of another examiner passing a driver who regularly take Suboxone? I really want to be honest and tell my employer I’m on Suboxone, but I’m afraid I won’t be certified by the medical examiner. God forbid my CDL medical card gets denied for being on Suboxone, I’m totally screwed.
there is no way for me to be able to tell you this. Suboxone was developed to be less addictive than methadone which is why it is not an automatic disqualification.

Now that is something I can't get around and I'm not going to be able to stop taking that

I have been taking suboxone for 13 years now and have never had a problem with the examination place I was using but changed jobs and the place they have does. They said it was disqualifying from DOT which is a fabrication. They asked for a letter from the Dr first and decided no. I told them I would quit subox and they had my DR write letter saying I stopped and they still wont qualify me. Bastards they gave another driver a one year cert and he takes Percocet!!!! Go figure, I guess I should have remained an active addict!! Yet I went to a Penn University Dot Dr. and he gave me one while on Subox. without a note from my Doc. He said rules have changed since 2017 on Maintenance drugs and you can be stable and clean and granted a cert it still is up to the M.E. weather they want to sign or not though. He also expressed his disgust at the ignorance of medical professionals that do NOT understand addiction and that people do enter a state of stability and become productive members of society again while in continuous sobriety. You probably know yourself the horror of full blown addiction and for me, Well I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I also know that being honest there were times I never disclosed that I was taking subs and never was found out. I hear that the DOT pulls the certifications at random and runs a check on controlled mediations so if you don't disclose it on your form and it comes up your being prescribed the meds/////// Well you run the risk of getting your CDL suspended and or Revoked for lying and that is not worth it. Unfortunately my company knows now that I am on a medication the M.E. wont pass and they claim they don't know what kind but I know that's bullshit for my manager called the place and they told her I was taking a disqualifying medication. She claims she doesn't know what kind but with two Hens talking on the phone and the way my manager is treating me now tells me otherwise. I informed her she was not even allowed to know why I failed the physical just that I did and she got real shitty with me!! There are HIPPA laws and I believe they just broke them. Now the company wants my prescribing Dr. to give them a letter that says he is no longer prescribing such meds and that all meds are destroyed. They are going to allow me to take the physical again with another company of their choice I believe. I don't think they can legally test me for subs due to discrimination laws and the fact that the DOT doesn't even test for them on Randoms "YET". But besides They claim they weren't told what medication it was so how can they try to test for it without incriminating them selves? To be honest I really don't want to even be on them anymore but they just help in so many ways in my life. If I had the day over again I would not have told the M.E. You have to do what is best for you and these ignorant people should not be allowed to have so much un justified power in your health care. I believe all doctors should have to make decisions by law and not personal feelings. At this point in America you cant find a single person who doesn't know someone or has had a family member afflicted by some kind of addiction that has caused harm in on way or the other and they take it out on others when they can. what if you occasionally take cbd delta 8, its legal but stays in your system, so your not taking it on the days you work but occasionally on the weekend. Would that throw off your urine test.

Hey, I take Oxycodone for a chronic pain condition prescribed by my doctor. It allows me to be able to function when dealing with this condition. If I got a note from my prescribing doctor is that something that you would typically pass? If so, would most examiners pass under these conditions? Thanks for your help in advance

I would typically accept a clearance letter from the prescribing doctor. I can’t speak for other Examiners unfortunately.
I take a medicine called Sprycel for CML luekemia. It is a 70mg once daily pill and that is the ONLY medicine I take. I was diagnosed at 22 and now I am 39. Any idea if cancer drugs are disqualifying or require a doctor note saying I am good to drive? I'm basically healthy and in remission and in good shape from eating clean, working out, and skateboarding.

Let get a clearance letter from your prescribing physician. Stating that you are good to drive on these meds.
I am taking taking anti seizure meds. I didn't know that would stop my chance of driving trucks until lastweek but is that the same even for a cdl-c? I have never NEVER had a seizure in my life the meds just calm me down. The doctor I went to see has now responded in over a week so I am hoping that you will.

So methadone is a no no? Ive been on it for 4 years. I pass all my drug tests. I actually only have to go every 4 weeks to pick up my doses instead of everyday. If my doctor wrote me a letter what are the chances of it beinh accepted.

CDL drivers have random testing by the government. Testing by companies is not determined by this.

I have been on buprenorphine / Suboxone for the past 13 years. I have been illegal drug-free that entire time. I have years worth of clean drug test and can pass a random at any moment. But I will come up positive on a 12 panel for buprenorphine. I have also been seeing the same physician for that entire time.

that is a grey area as the FMCSA defines high blood pressure as taking meds although most physicians see it as a chronic disorder no matter how you control it. I can tell you that I have given 2 years before after someone gets off meds. hope this helps

Ok. I got a cardiac ablation and am going off propafenone and carvedilol. I’m actually two weeks off of propafenone and doing well. I already have been driving for two years. No issues with the exam. I’d like to go down or off of the Wellbutrin for depression. I think low dose adderall might be better for my issues. I take low dose aspirin. Allergy meds and zolpidem as needed for sleep are what’s left.

Not for a heart condition but for anxiety my heart rate literally goes up to 200
I have random SVT
And I've had an anxiety disorder for years
I was on Nadolol for almost 10 years and I really liked it, took my body forever to adjust to it though, but once it did, I never had any issues with racing heart ever again
but they changed me over to carvedilol about 4 years ago
And I guess it works okay I take a very small dose each day
0.325 twice a day
And it does the work, I don't have any problems with racing heart
But I have had the occasional SVT where my heart jumps into abnormal rhythm and they have to give me a shot of adenosine to get it down
They really feel like those attacks were happening due to the stressful situation I had been enduring at that time
I went to a cardiologist for a complete check and everything turned out okay..
Other than that I take suboxone for the last 4 years
But I am very interested in obtaining a CDL and driving
So that's how I ended up here on this video and I saw you mentioned carvedilol.
So if I don't tell the d.o.t. that I'm taking the medication and they also don't test for the drug how would they find out?
The examiner would not find out but if you ever had a road incident and your file was pulled you may be in some trouble.

DOT physical info isn't protected to the degree that typical medical info is. That being said, we never look at a drivers past records. I can't speak for other facilities however.

Originally kolonopin was used as anti seizure. And its a benzo and considered a narcotic. Im pretty sure itd disqualify you. Id talk to the company first save yourself a trip.

I’ve been taking it for 5+ years and just went for a renewal dot physical in December and I was afraid to say something about it because I’ve heard a lot of DOT practitioners won’t give you clearance but it’s clear that I could drive because I’ve never been in an accident in five years I’ve never been an accident in a personal vehicle neither
