Great demo style. One thing that seems always overlooked when comparing these guitars’ difference in sound is the pickups positions...even with identical pickups and controls, they will sound different because the PUPs on the SG are closer together and also both are closer to the bridge than on a LP...IMO that is the main reason an SG always sounds a little brighter than a LP, not the body style, shape or woods.
These guys should do a musical project together. When they were playing clean at the beginning (and noticed on other of their videos), they were really coming up with some beautiful stuff that complimented each other in a very intelligent musical way! I think the best tone of both of them was the Les Paul towards the beginning when Filip was playing it, but the SG did seem to be much more versatile. Another great comparison video from Leif and Filip!!!
The difference in playability for me with the SG is that the neck angle is flatter so the scratch plate and body are closer to the strings more like a strat. This means you don’t have to extend the figures so much to rest on the scratch plate . The extra extension causes tension in your hand . The less extension of these fingers playing the SG makes playing fast runs easier and less tiring. Anyone else noticed the same thing?
i think the sg is as comfortable to sit with as a stratocaster and has that solid feel that makes you want to strum chords all day like a nice acoustic. as for the sound the les paul here sounds so buttery smooth which in good hands is fantastic. i think maybe the sg is more inspiring to play for an intermediate player and a les paul for the more experienced because it makes you work a bit harder for clarity in the notes.
It seemed to me. That the Les Paul on the clean tones was beefier than the SG. The SG sounded thinner on the clean tones. But on overdrive they both sounded the same to me.
I think so too. I just ran into Leif and Filip this evening and have watched many of their videos and I really love their style of comparing. They can match each other to truly show the similarities or differences in the guitars they are playing, and are different enough that each of them can highlight different aspects of each of the guitars sounds. You two should get your own channel!
The Lespaul seems to have a little more sustain.. The difference in tone are suttle, perhaps the SG has more mids.. That tonal difference depends a lot on the pickups a Lp with Burstbuckers , 498, or Classic 57 will sound different..
Yes, I was wondering if this was a Standard Les Paul or a Custom Shop. The Standards can come with a variety of Gibson pickups that have different characteristics.
I'm an SG player. The SG is thinner and don't have a maple top. This makes the sound a little thinner and more focused on the mids. Yea, the Les Paul is hevy and sounds heavy.
Awesome playing, gents 🤘 This demo made my day again ! The Les Paul for me is for both looks and sound which is more favorable to me! The SG sounds snappier, trebly both overdriven & clean. Keep up the good work, guys !
Hello, very good concept with this dialogue between 2 guitars and crossing the guitars and the players... Good guitars and good players!!!... The more easy is to be the lucky owner of both guitars... Crush on the SG for me....
these guys look so cool and having such a nice time playing. I have two Les Pauls but just ordered an SG yesterday... so i will try it out very soon. I prefer light weight guitars that are more comfortable so i think i will like SG very much . Good video guys
Great video and playing. I have both. They are both outstanding. I used to never like SG's but finally bought one because it was the only guitar I didn't have in my collection. I never thought I would like it as much as I do...but now really love it. If I had to pick one that would be tough... probably my Les Paul because the tone is more balanced and has more low end when you need it... but both sound exceptional. I do like how light the SG is. Both my Les Paul classic and Gibson sg 61 have the same pickups...61 burstbuckers... awesome pickups. Also those pickups sound crystal clear on my Les Paul and bright too. I do agree that the SG has a nice chime clean though...
'Scuse me guys, but I have to steal some of the lick ;-) Excellent presentation and playing, highly enjoyable and different from the commercial approach other channels seem to be following. I'll go with the SG :-)
I'd say start with an amp. A great amp can make a mediocre guitar sound good. Then again, a great amp won't make a bad guitar good. It's the combination in the end ;)
Lester Polsfus sounds more full, gritty, and mean. Snarl. Sg sounds thin and hollow to me. I have an SG but never play it. I get tired to trying to keep it from plunging to the floor. It’s the only guitar that I can’t play by feel. Everything is in the wrong place so if I don’t look at the fretboard, I end up hitting the 15th fret while going for the 12. I can play literally any other guitar by feel from any brand: but not an SG (or sg copy)
Jesus I love both of your playing SO much! Wow. I liked when it went to the jazzy stuff when yall switched. Man. So beautiful
Thanks for the kind words Nick!
what a cool way to do this kind of videos, so great
Thanks Avila! :)
I keep on watching because of the awesome playing!
Thanks Bram!

Very interesting point David, this will make a big difference indeed. Thanks for sharing!
@@davidkyle5552 Shoot, you got me there. Time to wake up haha! :p
Very good point!
Very enjoyable! You guys are doing it old school!

Great Demo. You guys really enjoy playing and it shows.

Well put, thanks for sharing!

Damn, they are both so gppd. I'm a Fender fat Strat type of guy, but I played a lot of SG's and now own a Les Paul and LOOOOOVEEE it
Great demo! Thanks gents! IMO, comaprison demos have to be all like this one. Thoughtful and complete. I like it
Thank you very much Alex

Both are great guitars and excellent demo again. SG clean might be a touch sweeter. LP gets a bit bright at times but over all it's great too.
You are both wonderful players and you’re enjoyable to listen to. That alone makes this video worth a watch (or listen). Cheers! =)
Thanks so much Rick! :)

I like the SG . It sounds like a 59 Les Paul but in a more comfortable guitar to play. SG for good

That was quite enjoyable and entertaining. Nice playing

Please do! Credit where credit is due ;)
I love both... two different beasts 🎸🎸
great video and i'm a new viewer...can you help me understand. Would an amp or guitar impact tone more?
keen to hear your opinion
cheers

I borrowed an SG once, I miss it, it was really different than my others. But now I have a good prototype of it that I like better
P90 sg for me
Oeeeh good one
I liked the video the difference between the two guitars was small, nice job .
Just ordered a black SG.
Great choice ;)
Could you please say something about the recording chain and what amps were used?
Two Milkman Creamers! Single-miced them from up close, straight into the interface and unedited.
@@thefellowshipofacoustics Thank you very much!
🔥🔥🔥
Was that Fleetwood Mac at the start?
The SG with over drive sounds like a monster whilst the LP sounded like a wet fart
Are they fitted with the same pickups?
The SG has the 490R&T while the Les Paul has the Burstbuckers!
Lester Polsfus sounds more full, gritty, and mean. Snarl. Sg sounds thin and hollow to me.

Good morning coffee and tea have good monday.
The same to you!
both the amps the exact same?
Is this SG for sale? Looks like an old Vibrola System? 1961?
It's actually a brand new one! Sold out currently but we can get new ones, feel free to contact us :)
Les Paul more "rounded" sound and SG more aggressive "raw" sound but both excellent instruments different ergonomics as well!
The two amp don't sound the same.
Really smart idea using two different amps for a tone comparison …… NOT !!!
Same amp but different color
