At my college there were a bunch of women science profs who gave off queer vibes, and me and my friends always speculated about it. Then at the end of one year there was an event and they all brought their husbands. turns out its difficult to distinguish science lady vibes from queer woman vibes.

I know the term (theirs also bi awakening as well) and I’m straight. Then again I’m also Demisexual but theirs definitely people who are straight who aren’t at all a part of the community that know it. Probably just really big allies that know about it. I mean I would’ve and I’m straight (tho I’m also Demisexual). But even before I knew I was Demisexual (or that it was even a thing) I knew about the term gay awakening/bi awakening. And I’m sure theirs definitely straight people that aren’t at all a part of the community know about it and would use it.

when I was first exploring in my mind the possibility that I might be a lesbian, I was 36. I was tearing my hair out (no worries, just figuratively lol) trying to find resources or some connection with the gay community. I bussed to work. I saw two women at the bus stop one day, in their 40s, I'd say. My gaydar screamed that they were a couple. But I had never come out to anyone or even talked to anyone in the community. So I just stood there. I saw one of the women frequently at the stop until I moved about a year later. never spoke to her, just too shy lol. a couple years later, when I was out, I went to a community dance. there they were, both of them. Yeah, they'd been together for decades. Gaydar is a thing!!
Funny thing about Mason from Wizards of Waverly Place being mentioned is both Selena Gomez and the showrunners tried to have Selena’s character be into girls. Her bad girl bestie Stevie played by Hayley Kiyoko was suppose to be her GF. It’s also why Selena was named Alex, a gender neutral name.

I didn't guess because wtf do I know, but towards the end was feeling kind of like Charlotte was building up too big of a picture in order to come off as straight, if that makes sense. The other ladies didn't try quite so hard to come off any specific way, because they didn't need to.

My first thought was that it was Sarah on the left. But… the only gaydar I have that actually seems to work is my own attraction. Like, not just physical attraction, “she’s hot,” but more of a “I want to get to know her better,” kind of thing. And for me that was Charlotte.

Hey, quick advice for your next videos, move yourself to the right more and make the video window a bit bigger, it would look better. So you stay the same size but we can see the content better as well. The mic arm part for example can be completely removed.

Years ago, I've started thinking of this as "queerdar" rather than "gaydar", because people such as myself aren't cis, and the sexual identifying terms can be relative to that person's gender.
Simplifying that with examples, in grades 6-8, I was a friend group with people in a variety of closets. One female classmate who had a crush on me is now an out lesbian. A closeted male classmate asked if I was a "d/ke". In my mid-30's I began transitioning (mtf).
I like 'queerdar' better too, because I feel that the reason we can often recognize each other is about something other than stereotypes. There is some kind of vibe we get when we're together where I feel like we can gravitate towards each other in a room. That vibe to me is not a matter of knowing if someone is gay or bi or trans or any other label, but simply getting the feeling that they are just also queer, whatever that means for them. I don't know if girls are bi or lesbian or pan or what label they'd use when I meet them, but I do feel I am very usually right when I meet a girl and get the feeling she isn't cishet. If anything I wonder if it's that we have a cishet-dar and recognize when people aren't pinging it lol

alayna - just something for you to consider - if you are genuinely attracted to them thats the gaydar - does not mean they are attuned to themselves at that level but it exists. i have dated more straight women than gay or whatever label of choice some of them really were only gay for me others went on to gayer pastures
