My gut reaction is always to prefer internal zoom, but my Canon RF 70-200 that has external zoom has held up really well for the last few years with constant abuse so I would imagine this one will be fine.
The "external zoom = dust sucking pump" perception has been overexaggerated by many. RF 70-200Ls and RF100-500L has proven not true if there's proper sealing.
I’ve been an external zoom skeptic after a bad experience with dust trapping in a Fuji 100-400 external supertele zoom. I have been forever scarred and now put a plastic bag over any external zooms I use to prevent dust / water trapping in lens… How do you keep your lens free from dust / water in lens?
I bought this lens because it is so versatile, light and good. Yes it is expensive but I am happy to have 400mm with the converter which wouldn't be possible with the Tamron for example.
Always a pleasure watching both of you in your videos. I have to give a humongous shout-out to Lok for explaining focus breathing in such a straightforward way. I've been trying to understand what it is for quite some time, and in the 7 seconds of him explaining it, I instantly understood.

I have the current f4. Considering an upgrade as I moved from a 7iii to an Rv. Not sure about that external zoom though. Perhaps the 2.8.ii is more like me? I don’t do videos and I use my one Zoom for all sorts of photography. Any thoughts on the comparable image quality of 2.8ii v 4ii out there?
Now that this is coming out soon would you say no better time than now to get the V1 of this lens for super cheap? I just came across one today for a steal
@@zegzbrutal because I can get the Sony for really cheap. Plus stabilization is nice to allow you to drop to lower shutter speeds handheld and still get a nice crisp photo. I’m not wanting the tamron. It was a consideration though.

I just watched Tony Northrup’s review of this lens and it is not sharp at 200mm. I’m really disappointed in the overall image quality. I’ll have to pass.
I am not sure correct to call a macro lens, as it is only half macro, while after all the 100-400 and quite a few other lenses in the line up are a third macro. So the macro on barrel seems just marketing, successful by the number of videos pushing this aspect. I won’t be buying for three reasons, I don’t like extending zooms, I am not a fan of petal hoods, and I already own the F2.8 GMii which is still IMO the better lens. In fact that is my top favourite Sony zoom lens.
Nikon is barely tier 2 now, on a brink of exiting camera business altogether, their imaging business shrank to about 30% of their revenue and market share is 2.5 times less than Sony's.
"Why is it not focusing!?"
"Because it's Panasonic, that's why."
Oh Kai. Violent facts.
S5II almost catch up with Sony on AF and just abuse the shit out is Sony on IBIS.

I’m still using the mark 1 and it holds up well. Prefer internal zoom though so no need to upgrade
