Not that it makes it acceptable, I would just like to point out. But he was 17/18 at the time. What’s important is that he has apologised profusely for the incident, accepted he was wrong and shown a willingness to improve. If all 17/18 year olds did that after making a big mistake, we would all live in happier societies!

Everyone's talking about how gracefully Djokovic congratulated Rune, so I will take it upon myself to congratulate the champion. I mean what a week this guy has had; the level, consistency, and courage required to beat 5 top ten players in a week is insane, and to show this level of tennis and composure at 19 is very rare. This guy's a champion in the making, and, most importantly, a guy who took a chance on himself, his passion, and is reaping the fruits of his labour. Major props and congrats to Rune 💪

What amazes me the most is how Novak handles his defeats. Always so gracious. If he has been faking all along that's been nearly 20 years. Very hard to fake that long. If it's honest then I don't understand how he could be that happy for his opponent. If I ever play tennis and lose a championship match I swear I'm gonna be whinning and throwing tantrum for at least a few months.

That netcord at 3-1 30-0, wow. Sometimes you need a little luck.
Still, what a week for Rune. From triple MP save to 5 consecutive top 10 wins, the last 2: ending FAA's amazing streak then Djoko in the final. Hats off. Given his vulnerability to cramping at times I dont know if Rune can compete for majors quite yet [unless he wins every match in straight sets in under 2h lol], but for now if he can even slightly improve his fitness, hes gonna be a HUGE problem for EVERYONE in M1000 events.
Yes Novak isnt everyones favourite, but regardless of your opinion of him you gotta admit hes one of the GOATs of tennis, and always so gracious in defeat. Always gives opponents a smile and a warm handshake/hug and congratulations at the end. Classy press conference today as well.

He's hired a mental coach named BS Christiansen and ever since they started working together he's been a completely different player - much more calm in the tough times in matches and enjoys all parts of the matches more as well. Think he's a solid grand slam contender now he's actually gotten his mental ups and downs more under control and having beaten 5 top 10 players in a week. I think he's for sure ready for the big majors. Proud Dane here :-)
