Look, I really like all those theories. But in ONE case, I have to highly disagree. And that's the theory of the fourth test involved in the TRIwizard Tournament. It is called TRIwizard Tournament, there had to be THREE schools, THREE champions, THREE judges, and so on. So why should there be more than THREE tasks the champions had to go through?
Also, the THREE is a "magical" number in MANY different countries folklore, fairytales and religions. So I think that JKK was NEVER even thinking about a fourth task

My favourite Harry Potter joke will always be the one where Doloris Umbridge asks him if he believes a Defense from Dark Arts teacher would really be out to get him, and he calmly points out that in the last four years one was possessed by Voldemort, one tried to leave him and Ron for dead in a dungeon, a third one was a werewolf who nearly mauled him and the last one was a Death Eater in disguise, then he turns to Hermione and asks her if he got all that right and she deadass just replies "Yes."

I doubt she had the whole series planned from the beginning, but the first three or four definitely were. No doubt. There were explict mentions of serius black, hagrid getting expelled, harry & voldemort's connections & wand connections, & the horcruxes were definitely planned from the get-go. There was a lot of foreshadowing in the books. Very obvious.
That said, there is an entire outline of the series written before. She even told alan rickman his ending after the first couple movies - before all the books came out.

When I was a high school freshman was waiting for the late bus one day when a senior came over to me and started talking. He was super into philosophy and told me to read it. I went home and read the first couple chapters. Next week we talked again and he asked me about the book. I said it was fine but then to my surprise he started to quiz me. I went along, and at the end he told me to read another 2 chapters by next week. Me being timid back then, I agreed. For the next three months, he quizzed me almost every week on the chapters. Very puzzling.

As a rather big fanfiction fan, I'd just like to mention that it's a whole rabbit hole on its own.
I don't think that it was mentioned, but Snape / Harry pairing is one of the most popular, but a rather great and well-loved by many fans is Sirius Black / Remus Lupin. Many fans even consider it canon that they were together in the past.
Another thing about HP fanfictions. There's a character called Daphne Greengrass, who was barely mentioned in the book series, but some people started writing about her, and by now she has a whole fanbase and in fanfiction circles she's sometimes as well known and loved as characters like Draco or Luna. Lmao, I can also go on about the fanfic side of Harry Potter.
      - Blaise Zabini is like a male version of Daphne Greengrass and people LOVE him cause we dunno shit about him and also he is one of the few POC characters in the franchise.
-We can never forget Harry Potter and The Unexpected Pregnancy, which is arguably the best/worse fanfiction to ever be written. It is literally the cause of the Omegaverse side of HP fanfiction.
-Not fanfiction but there is a large amount of hate against J.K. Rowling on how she treated Cho Chang and the Parvati twins since they are the only Asian descended characters in the 7 books.
-Can't forget how a lot of peeps in the fandom love viewing the characters as POC cause of the lack of POC characters. That in itself has lead to some really interesting stuff tbh.

This is a great sum up! Just one quibble though: it is true that Rowling has had second thoughts about pairing Ron & Hermione together, but in that same interview she went on to assert that they would be fine together, and that a girl like Hermione would need a funny guy like Ron (to which Emma agreed). That's why the word "regret" is overstating it a bit; even Emma Watson stated a month later that the whole interview had been taken completely out of context. Not to mention that Rowling only said that Harry was a better fit compared to Ron "in some ways". She never said that they should have ended up together, and a few days after that interview she re-affirmed her belief in Harry/Ginny. She's much more positive about that pairing, probably because she can actually be more objective about it within the confines of the book's narrative as opposed to her own wish-fulfillment. Fundamentally, Harry/Ginny is about 'Harry's story': it's about his wish to find a family and to end up with a kind and funny red-haired girl that completely understands him. Ron/Hermione, on the other hand, is about 'Rowling's story', particularly in the context of her having based Hermione partially on herself, her wish-fulfillment about marrying someone like Ron, and her declarations that "I married Harry Potter".

Dumbledore isn't evil... but he certainly isn't totally good. He's kinda a "bigger picture guy" who does manipulation for for good, in the most ironic sense his explanation to Harry about the prophecy is quite painfully clear that he is manipulative. He clearly explains Voldemort will go after Harry as long as he lives and Harry could hide but the difference between duty and bravery is his choice to oppose him, Dumbledore is a father figure to Harry; a scared child who needs comfort is given the idea to fight and die just as Snape found so disturbing that's especially fucked from a man who bullied a child for being born

    • @DylantheKnightOwl
      @DylantheKnightOwl  3 роки тому +18

I mean is it manipulation to tell the truth? Voldemort literally wants to kill Harry Potter, Harry doesn't have a choice in hiding or fighting because Voldemort is actively taking the fight to him, he did all the way back when Harry was a literal baby, he literally has a piece of his soul attached in harry, he is an inescapable reality. I don't personally see it as manipulation for Dumbledore to tell him the truth. That was also the literal only way you could read the prophecy, neither can live while the other survives, Voldemort took that prophecy VERY seriously, so seriously that he decided to try and kill a child over it to be sure he was never a threat to his power, Harry is kind of screwed no matter what and the only real option is to fight back because if he doesn't then he'll die. Dumbledore has done some bad things in his past but I personally have never understood this particular train of thought about him being manipulative here?

I never really thought that Dumbledore was evil. But, I did, after reading the 7th book, felt like he was someone who regretted the way he treated his family, and other people he had put in danger, I always thought he saw himself as evil. His death in the grand scheme he conjured up for Harry, was a way to relieve his stress, and putting Harry on his path gave him peace with the fact that he's leaving the fate of the world in the hands of someone, albeit a teenager, that could carry out the task, and always remain loyal to him and his memory. And since he couldn't muster up the courage to end his life himself, Snape was the perfect candidate, even if it crushed him to ask Snape to do such a thing. I wish there was even more of an elaboration on the Dumbledores and how they lived.

"If she's projecting, then what is it based on?" If I had to guess, I would say Discworld. Before HP, it was the highest selling fantasy series in the UK (Other than LOTR, of course). A lot of the books concern wizards and witches. I think the theory is less about HP being a copy of Discworld and more about it being heavily influenced by Discworld that basically stole all of its publicity. Discworld still sold about 100 million copies, had a few adaptations, and the author Terry Pratchett (GNU) was knighted for writing it. I think the reason someone thought of that theory is because the Discworld fandom doesn't have that much of a presence online. In my opinion, there is a better explanation: The current Discworld fandom has far more people who don't do the same things that other fandoms do to make their presence known, such as make a lot of fanart and videos about it (And it can be further attributed to the fact that both the series and the target demo are older than most of the stuff that does get more noticeable fandoms).

American investigative journalist Greg Palast uncovered an alternative ending to the Deathly Hallows thanks to an interview with JK Rowling which is as follows:
Harry was terribly right. The Dark Lord, in his clearing in the
Forbidden Forest, was preparing a charm as devastating as Harry feared,
and far more horrific. As Harry marched to this fated meeting, Voldemort
passed his wand among the icy Dementors, commanding each to lay their
    Kiss upon it.
Voldemort, in those pained, lonely nights of his exile
and recovery, had conceived of a way to hurl a Dementor’s kiss from his
wand, the kiss that would take away the soul of its victim forever.
And now he would blast Harry with hundreds of them. Voldemort’s reward
would be greater than watching Harry’s burial. He would have Harry
frozen in place, Harry’s living being encased for eternity at the moment
of Harry’s ultimate humiliation and defeat, a terrifying monument to
Voldemort’s victory for all to see for all time. Voldemort’s joy rose
with every Dementor’s kiss to his wand.
    Harry could feel their
grave-like cold as he approached and the pull of their despair. It was
hopeless, and he was helpless in the face of it. And he knew it.
But then, Harry felt the presence of a young man and woman, though he
could not see them. These two ghosts lovingly held his body up and
raised his spirit. It was, he was certain, the last remaining
life-force of his parents, making one last sacrifice by joining him on
his final journey. He allowed himself a moment of peaceful happiness,
    feeling them so close.
Then he stopped. Harry shivered with a deep
chill of recognition. They were not his parents. They were
Voldemort’s: the young Tom Riddle and his bride who, for this occasion,
had taken back her beautiful maid’s countenance. They said, using no
words, “Our dearest son, we will not allow you to be harmed.”
    Were
their words for him? Or for Voldemort? Somehow, it didn’t seem to
matter - they seemed so kind when he needed nothing more at this moment
    than a parent’s love.
Harry, and the two warm spirits becoming more
visible, approached the edge of the swirling crowd of Voldemort’s
followers, who parted, preparing to give the victim an easy corridor to
    his doom.
Voldemort’s wand had returned to his white, skeletal
hand. The Dark Lord pointed it confidently to where Harry would surely
emerge from the crowd, not yet to destroy Potter but to hold him while
he prepared to give Harry an oration on the eternal punishment about to
    strike him.
Voldemort laughed when Harry stumbled through. But when
the Dark Lord saw the specters of his parents, he howled as if cut in
half. With his furious heart in flames, Voldemort immediately unleashed
the deadly Kisses, bellowing, And all
the vile terrors of the Dementors, in an unstoppable flash from his
wand, rushed toward Harry and the spirits at his side.
    It was only a
hundredth of a second for Voldemort’s curse to reach Harry. But
somehow the world seemed to slow down, the Earth ceased to rotate; all
on the planet held still, though Harry was aware he was free to move.
Harry had planned every shield charm for his defense, but all now were
clearly useless. Harry found himself unable to do more than calmly bend
to one knee and bow his head, preparing to accept the force of the blow
    and his death and end.
As he kneeled, in that quiet moment outside
time, the two shadows flew from him toward Voldemort. And Voldemort
changed. The Dementors’ chill wind, and Time, moved backward; and there
was Voldemort, growing to his younger, more potent, frightening self.
The curse struck Harry’s scar, obliterating it, then, in a loud roar,
he felt the crushing pain of his skull opening, and then the shrieking
curse rushing from his head - back toward the wand that sent it.
    As
the curse turned back toward him, Voldemort continued to grow younger
still, until he was a little child again with his mother and father at
his side. When they realized the full force of Voldemort’s own spell
was about to strike him, his parents put their reassuring arms around
their son to protect him from this ultimate blow.
And then it struck. And now the three entwined souls, Tom Riddle, his wife and
young child, would remain forever entombed in that one moment, never
able to leave. And never wanting to.
The headmaster, his stringy white beard uncombed and his wrinkled, bald
head topped by a drooping wizard’s cap, looked with wistful gratitude
at the empty picture frame he’d convinced the Ministry to put up,
despite their reluctance. He knew he’d soon be residing in that little
square etched with the name, “Harry Potter,” separated from Albus
Dumbledore’s only by the portraits of Headmistresses McGonagall and
    Chang.
he old wizard could hear below the school abuzz with preparations for his 150
birthday. He shifted Ginny, a bird of paradise, to a perch nearer his
desk. His wife, rather than grow old, had turned herself into this
beautiful bird, but still insisted on giving un-birdlike advice.
“Harry, dearest, you can’t miss your own birthday party. And it’s so
    lovely outside.”
Indeed, the summer day had brought out scores of
picnickers who had come to set their baskets and blankets out near the
warm light cast by the living statue of the happy family with the little
child. No one but the old headmaster knew who was encased in that
glowing sphere. When the Dementors were released from the spell of
Voldemort, they, and indeed every wizard excepting Harry and the shade
of Albus, were cleansed of all memory of the Dark Lord. Now, after more
than a century, curiosity about the family in the statue had long ago
ceased. Harry had simply ordered a plaque placed there. It said only,
    “Riddles.”
“I will go,” he told his feathered wife, “but I have to
keep an eye on the boy for a bit.” Harry’s great, great grandson, not
yet able to walk, silently played on the rug with his chocolate frog.
Then suddenly, in inexplicable anger, little Tom crushed the candy
animal. Harry watched this, and knew the whole world would soon darken
    again for generations to come.
