I went to a small university for my undergraduate degree and never had a teaching assistant in all four years. My professors were from Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge and Leeds (the latter was on this list). Then I went to supposedly a better and larger university, which was ranked 6th in my country at that time. Most students were being taught there by teaching assistants at the larger university, but my first experience of a teaching assistant was myself, when I was asked to take tutorials and mark papers in a second year Russian History class. I knew more than the students, obviously, but my knowledge was nothing compared to that of the instructors at the smaller university. Later, I taught as a professor for two years before moving on to work for my country's government for a six digit salary. So my advice is this: it doesn't matter what university you go to: 1. Work your ass off 2. Enjoy your research 3. Try to get into the tutorial group where the professor is teaching, not the TA. Best of luck!
The ranking of these universities is arbitrary - many of those in the middle e.g. Durham University in the UK are of a far higher academic standard than say, UC San Diego or Northwestern University - they need seriously to revisit their ‘parametres’ …

Respect for imperial college london and Stanford university
You might want to re-evaluate the University of Toronto upwards, considering one of their faculty was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics this week.
So my advice is this: it doesn't matter what university you go to:
1. Work your ass off
2. Enjoy your research

I used to care about the rankings until like I was 25 or 26. After that, nobody really asks where you went to school. It's really about what you do with your degree and how you carve out your life. I went to a big name school in the US, and I see plenty of people my age (late 30s) who are doing much better socioeconomically than my fellow alumni but didn't go to a prestigious school or didn't go to college at all

For example, such courses as machine learning and deep learning at TUM, there are more than 1,500 students taking the courses…
At least go to the universities where they have tuition fees. Here, the TUM, is like another asylum for refugees.. making good connections is as important as the level of education. Not possible in Germany.

Going to elite or good universities is sometimes not a ladder for success or innovation.
My honest opinion is there is a lot of underhand politics that go into rankings be it universities, Sports, FIFA rankings, economies etc. Trend is always the same and always heavily favouring certain countries and continents. Get's tiring after a while..

France: best 'grandes écoles' are not listed (école polytechnique, centrale, normale supérieure, HEC, ...) whereas nobody knows those listed (PSL?, institut polytechnique?)
Paris Saclay include Polytechnique and others, PSL include Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris Dauphine and others. HEC is not in the ranking because it’s not an university.
@@Tomato35-g7y
Polytechnique is not part of Paris Saclay. If you are well informed you should rather concur that this survey cannot include France in their scope. In other words, it does not make sense. It falsy pretends to being able to compare pears and apples, especially when it excludes pears. Besides, one can wonder if it makes sense to consider MBA's and history or medecine and psychology as a group for the sole reason that students belong to the same administration.
@@veraciteabsolue1221 maybe it’s Centrale in ParisSaclay, it’s a mix of several universities like PSL. And to be honest French universities are well known in France and in few European countries, in USA nobody know Polytechnique or HEC…
