Though we can hear Minutemen, Television, Big Boys, Velvet Underground, the Byrds etc etc etc, they are completely themselves, the Parquet Courts! And this is a wonderful thing. All great art is built on the past, yes?? And I thank these guys for sharing their flawless sound.
I've been searching for underground music and bands since the early 80s. I'm not sure I've ever heard a band with this much diversity of sound. Even within certain songs they'll change up the rhythm and the sound. It's amazing
Saw a picture of them with no instruments before seeing them with any instruments. I didn't have any guesses as to what the other three played but I instantly knew who the bassist was. Just by sight. You can spot 'em a mile away.
I saw them open for protomartyr at an afterparty for pitchfork and the girl I was kind of dating leaned over to me and said "I kinda want to fuck the bassist"
I absolutely bloody adore this, everything about it takes me back to the magical year of 1979, just after the first wave of punk, great tunes, angular guitar riffs (Gang of Four), a time when everything and anything seemed possible. A hugely talented band, I simply can't get enough of them.
I met a jewish rabbi and offered him to wait or sleep in my appartment till the synagoge open its doors. He accepted for the thunders showed seriously. When I asked him bout the sense of life, he told me: it's all about the feeling. 🍷😎 blessed be God!
@@alexthomas8418 wow haven't heard it before. I like it, kind of fuzzy psycodelic. Vocals reminds me also kind of Ariel's Pink style. Don't know at the end there are so much artirsts to reference on to make good music.
I just watched some of this and then went to their KEXP session from 2 years ago. Max is wearing the same shirt in both? Totally impressive - I grow out of my clothes :(

I agree! There’s totally a parquet courts sound, now bands like Bboys are copying their sound but that’s not a bad thing :)

Saw them recently and would add Beck and Deep Purple to that list 😎
And Talking Heads.
Lot of Talking Heads

And what a great one at that. His bass lines are so grooooovyyyy

First thing I thought of on hearing Normalization was Gang of Four.
I love that Austin is still playing that Squier.
So weird how much these guys sound like Parquet Courts?? Except when he does Psycho Structures - sounds much more like Parkay Quarts.
Love this. I didn’T realize they are a jam band. Awesome.

One Man No City... greatness @14:44
One man no city one of my favorites

The outro of One Man, No City has such a gorgeous Velvet Underground vibe
Zia Zaidi They sure do have elements of Velvet Underground and also Sonic youth in their music
They keep getting better

Getting a Parqay Quartz vibe from the first 4 songs.
Austin's dancing in One Man No City makes this
Last song One Man No City sounds quite well like Talking Heads. You are great dudes.
More like the voice of David Byrne, than the sound of Talking Heads.
Exactly what i thought...love it
Check out ‘Marathon of anger’ from their newest album. Really doubles down on the talking heads sound
Spot on with TH reference.

This version of One Man, No City is the best. Also the mix is fucking mint. The drum mix especially on Almost Had to Start / In and Out....

Just watched them at the Novo last night and now I’ve got to watch all of their live performances on UA-cam to capture the same energy
Definitely getting a WIRE vibe
Both are the epitome of post-punk, just separated by four decades.
