My vice is loose like that, too. It's good to steady something wherever you want, like in the driveway, but useless when you really need to torque down on something. I would like to get a second vice that is bolted down for the tough jobs.
Dont forget the bump stops. With RUF the front springs are longer from the axel point to the the front even they hit the rocks also earlier then stock springs.
Move the shackle mount 1.5 inch ahead and drill a new hole for the spring mount 1.5 inch towards the rear. Thats how i installed. The zuk rides better and flexes better now. Plus the springs always have positive camber which the original springs never had from day 1
You could get you a big truck hub for your vise. Make a plate for the hub run a vertical tub and build a mounting plate for your vise. Then you can roll your vise around where you need it and keep it out of the way when not needed.
Good and usefull information mate! I just 4x4 hardcore today with Samurai and got my front spring one leaf broken in 2 halfs))) Gotta think of something and this is a one good way to take care of that problem!
I can't wait to see how this turns out. I need more flex in my front axle, and I know yjs springs flex like crazy but I don't like the way the stick out in the front. Maybe RUF is like a happy medium. I'm pretty sure they will flex a lot better, from what I see is that the rear axle with any stock length leaf spring combination already flexes a good amount. If I could have the same flex in the front as my trail gear 3" springs have in the rear I would be done with suspension lol.
@@FortuneOffRoad well if the springs are only 3 inches longer, then I'm guessing its going to move the axle 1.5" and stick out 1.5" over stock springs. Thats why I said like the happy medium it will flex better than stock but stick out little more. prolly won't flex as much as yjs but will look better. I'm thinking about doing RUF on mine, I know its going to work good, like 99% sure, and I know you are going to go test it, so I want to say thank you for doing a lot of trial and error so I don't have to lol.
If I hadn't forked up the funds for the YJ swap, I would have definitely gone this route - but instead of YJ rears, I would have used CJ rears, which are 2" wide as well. Really curious if your guess at adding both leaves will be right for your setup!
Looking forward to the next part Kyle. I have a question though: What if I want to keep the front axle centered at its original position? In that case, the increased length will have to be adjusted at both ends. The front will be adjusted by the shackle I think, whereas the rear will have to be adjusted by drilling a hole farther back in the spring hanger I guess. What will be the pros and cons of that in your opinion?
I think that's the way people usually do it. You can Google Samurai RUF, and find the info you need. A lot of companies make kits. I think you just need a longer shackle in front and some adapter plates on the hangers. The only con is that you have the same issue with bigger tires rubbing your fender. 👍🏻
Thanks for the feedback! The bumpstops are home made using a single bolt bump stop. This video has the info and links in the description. ua-cam.com/video/48L0Dd0_UHI/v-deo.html 🤙🏻
The most important part of the kit in my opinion is the shackle stop, If you're using the missing link setup. I haven't decided on my approach to it yet. I thinks that's pretty much it.
@@FortuneOffRoad ohhh ok I thought you put yj springs in the rear and moved the stock rear springs to the front.. so you just have stock samurai rear springs in the front and back just added some to the front
Thanks for the detailed Samurai Rears Up Front conversion. waiting for next video

They came out badass

Can't wait to see the outcome. Waiting for the next video 👍 Love from India

Also running the shorter spring in a pack makes it stiffer so it wouldnt be as good for a light front end as adding the longer spring

That's a good idea!
I need to put new bushings in mine... the springs that are in mine are 2.5” YJ lift springs from Rancho. 🤘😎
Nice! Are you running them spring under or over. What tire size?
Good and usefull information mate! I just 4x4 hardcore today with Samurai and got my front spring one leaf broken in 2 halfs))) Gotta think of something and this is a one good way to take care of that problem!
Thanks for the feedback! My Rears up front have been killer so far.
Rust-Oleum canadianbtremclad with extra weather proof ingredients, for the cold
I just did all the opposite on my jeep 😂. I put front springs to trade out leafs on the back of my jeep to shorten the wheelbase.
To each their own! But that's what I love about leaf springs.
@@FortuneOffRoad they flex a ton of you put all the work you're doing into it 👍🏻

I think the way I do the RUF might stick out the front too. I guess we'll see how it turns out! 🤞🏻

lol that might of sounded dumb, but it should stick out 1.5" more in reference to the tires centerline.
I did ruf the simple way. I drilled the spring more to the rear. I relocated the front mount a lil more ahead

Yeah me too! If not, I'll just pull them out and remove one leaf. 🤙🏻

@@FortuneOffRoad thanks Kyle.
the sleeve being longer allows you to tighten it down and allow the spring to move
That makes sense. I've never seen this with a leaf spring before
Muy bien video!! Me gustaría saber dónde compro el juego de bujes de poliuretano que muestras en el vídeo, si puedes enviar link mejor, gracias!!
88.5 and later samurais have 3 leaf springs up front.
Good to know, thanks!
Really enjoy your vids. I noticed your bump stops on your reservoir shocks installation. What is the make and your source. Thanks.

You really need a 2inch frame extension if your gonna do it right. I have a video on my profile about how I did it.
True that! I'm saving that for when I do my Yota swap and YJs
Your video is awesome mate.
Can you do this with lifted springs though?
Yes you can! If you mix and match leafs they should be of the same arch
I've looked at the ruf kits. Do you need the kit if you run the missing link shackles?
The most important part of the kit in my opinion is the shackle stop, If you're using the missing link setup. I haven't decided on my approach to it yet. I thinks that's pretty much it.
I’m not sure if I heard which yj springs did you order for the rear of you samurai was it yj fronts or yj rears?
The springs in the rear are stock Samurai springs. The ones up front are Samurai rears with two leaves added.
@@FortuneOffRoad ohhh ok I thought you put yj springs in the rear and moved the stock rear springs to the front.. so you just have stock samurai rear springs in the front and back just added some to the front
