Fun fact- despite the lopsided score- Dallas only had 325 yards of offense and their longest play from scrimmage was 23 yards. Normally when a team scores up 51 points, they have 400-500 offensive yards. But the 7 turnovers played a big role here.
Remember this game well. I often think about this game each Thanksgiving. I was so disappointed the Cowboys didn't shut out the Seahawks. The Cowboys were winning 51-0 prior to the Seahawks scoring.
I remember this game well. Was just glad it wasn’t the Steelers. They got mauled by Lions 45-3 just 3 years later on Thanksgiving & it’s even a great video by Official Jaguar Gator9.
Also in this game - Zorn was injured in the first half and replaced by Sam Adkins. On his first drive - Sam got the ball down to the goal line - but as you state - couldn't punch it in. In game footage you can see a bobbled snap on 4th and goal. .Zorn took a painkiller shot in the locker room at half time and returned to play the entire second half. Seattle's O-line was completely overmatched this game.
The silver lining in the Seahawk's terrible 1980 season was they got the #4 draft pick in 1981 and used it on Kenny Easley. Interestingly, the Giants finished 1980 with the same record as the Seahawks, but had the #2 pick and used it on Lawrence Taylor. Not sure how the tie-breaker worked for the draft in 1981 and why the Giants got a higher pick than Seattle when they had the same record and won the head-to-head game.
Jets, Giants and Seahawks all finished with a 4-12 record that year and each team was 1-1 in head to head competition since the Seahawks beat the Jets, and the Jets beat the Giants l. Not sure what the next tie breaker would have been in 1980
Sure, but he also had a dramatically better OL. Besides, Sherman Smith wasn't exactly junk, but his knee injury pretty much turfed the season (here) and they ended up with a washed Lawrence McCutcheon--who actually had his best game here but other than this was a total non-factor and looked like an end-of-career back just riding out the string (indeed he was done after a few games with the Bills the next year)
1978 Super Bowl. Denver had a similar offensive meltdown v. Dallas. The Broncos gave up eight turnovers to the Cowboys and had 35 yards net passing-yet only lost 27 to 10.
How the hell this wasn't the score of the 92 game is beyond words Also, the Hawks four wins all came on the road in their first four away games. This was revisited in 2019 when they also began 4-0 on the road (en route to 6-0)
Great video as usual. I know my Lions have taken some Thanksgiving beat-downs as well. At least now there's 3 games to watch. At least 1 of em should be a good game. Lol. Happy Thanksgiving to all & stay safe😷😷😷😷😷🏈🏈🏈
It only takes 13 to 30 seconds to score in the NFL. So a rule to stop the game could cause a team to make a comeback. Dallas scored a touchdown with 23 sec left in a game to beat the steelers. Chiefs scored a field goal with 13 sec left in a game to tie it up.
It was the first KO returned for a TD in NFL history. Thereby making it the shortest OT game in history. I saw that game live and it was a hell of game, that also badly derailed the Lions after a 4-0 start and eventually knocked them out of the playoff race.
Hey Official JaguarGator9.... This quote from the Wikpedia page about Glenn Carano (Gina Carano's father btw). Lots of fun trivia here. Some of it involves Seattle (a trade in which Dallas got Glenn in the first place). But check out the information about the 1981 Thanksgiving game..... then... the only start Glenn got in his career. Him and David Humm were the only two QB's to ever have a "one and done" start (vs each other). That would make a good video eh? wikpedia quote: In the 1977 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys didn't have a second round draft choice, after trading three of them to the Seattle Seahawks as part of the package to acquire Tony Dorsett. On May 3, the Cowboys traded wide receiver Duke Fergerson to the Seahawks in exchange for the 26th position in the second round, used to select Carano.[3] The Cowboys used to carry only 2 quarterbacks on their roster until drafting Carano, who became the third-string quarterback after passing fellow rookie Steve Deberg on the depth chart. From 1977 to 1979, Carano was the third-string quarterback behind Roger Staubach and Danny White. In 1980, he became the backup after the retirement of Staubach. Carano is perhaps best remembered for replacing the injured White in the 1981 Thanksgiving game against the Chicago Bears and helping the Cowboys to a 10-9 comeback win.[4] The next game was the only start of his NFL career, in which he completed 7 of 18 passes for 51 yards in a 37-13 win against the Baltimore Colts.[5] Notably, the opposing quarterback for the Colts, David Humm, was also making his first and only NFL start, the only time in NFL history two "one and done" quarterbacks have ever faced off.[6] Carano and Humm were the subjects of an NFL Films piece entitled "My One and Only," recounting the 1981 game; it noted that the two had been friends since high school (both played high school football in Nevada), and remained friends until Humm's death in 2018.[7] In 1982, Carano was passed on the depth chart by Gary Hogeboom for the backup quarterback role behind White.[
I was in 3rd grade when this game was played. I remember talking about this at school that year along with the Bears beating the Packers 61-7 that same year
It’s Glenn Carano (With a K sound.... not a C sound )He is Gina Carano’s father. I love your videos but sometimes the miss pronunciations and name mistakes are easily avoidable
Seattle was not feeling ZORNY that night :(
Glenn CAR-ano
The ideal Thanksgiving for Thanos- it was perfectly balanced

When a player on the winning team calls for a mercy rule, you know things went sideways!
I was 4 years old and still remember this final score. I was hoping you would discuss it. Thanks
I watched that game, and cheered Seattle didn't get shutout

I was 12 and I watched both games and we didn't have Thanksgiving dinner till 6 . Great memories... thx. 😊

SEattle never played another Thanksgiving day game to my knowledge. Once was enough.
Seattle played another Thanksgiving day game and got crushed 34-9 in 2008 against......you guessed it the Cowboys
Actually, the Seahawks played the Cowboys on Thanksgiving in 1986 and beat the Cowboys 31-14 if I remember correctly.
The Seahawks beat the Cowboys on November 27, 1986 on Thanksgiving 31-14. They also beat the 49ers on Thanksgiving in 2014, 19-3.
Seattle could have had Dorsett

Nah... Steelers' 3-45 loss to Detroit in '83 was still worse.
It was just horrendous.
(okay so I'm a bit biased being a Steeler fan n all)

Hard to believe anything would have been as bad as Tampa's 38-10 loss on TG day in 2006.

Seems like yesterday. Which, if my time travel theory holds, actually WILL be yesterday. If it works, I'll send you a Western Union Telegram.
Why do you think you are the only person that can do math ?
@@jewsco Scott Conner realizes most people can do math. But if his timeline posts can help just one life, it's worth it.
I was there as an 11 year old..

I believe that was the 1st walkoff KOR in NFL history.

I was 15 at the time this game took place . I had dinner with family and watched the cartoons instead This was a terrible game.
