    Today I was in a field like this with two friends , I was showing them my new S&T swing and one of them, a 4 Habdicap , told me I should not lay all that pressure on my left foot , all after a hit a bad shot, I told him it’s not the technique that doesn’t work but me learning it as a new student , suddenly while talking I took another shot with my seven wood and rip a 220 yard straight shot and he went “ ok, keep it doing it ! It was a monster shot!! . I will stay keep on hitting it until a get your ball striking Tom! It’s the only way of swinging that has made me more constant and than any other scam golf classes in my two years of golfing!!

    Another great video Tom even though ball compression is not my main issue. I would love to see a video about the lead hand as I have club face control issues. Snap hooks and straight pushes are my problem. 🙄

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 місяці тому

      The answer lies in ball flight laws. Clubface angle relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. From there we can then do some reverse engineering to identify and neutralize the cause of a sideways shot. For example, it could be that your path has shallowed too much or that your swing still has some leftover remnants of subconscious compensatory moves that you made to neutralize a previously steeper path. Video and/or a launch monitor that provides path and face angle data will be very helpful in diagnosing the culprit.

    Great stuff as usual Tom. When using the Impact Trainer, would you say that a roll is required sometime after impact to bleed off the energy? That would help prevent the left elbow from bending/hurting.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 місяці тому +1

      Glad you enjoyed it!
      With regard to this erroneous notion that we need to affect some type of active hand-rolling “release", given the inability of most folks to spend sufficient time at the range to lock in the required exactness of such an action this misguided thought has led countless golfers astray. It's not something that even the vast majority of pros are trying to consciously manufacture during the split second that the clubhead is traveling a distance of approximately 6' from parallel to parallel at speeds in excess of 100 mph. _The forearms will naturally "trade places" from pre- to post-impact,_ but this should not be construed as a contrived move (although many a casual observer has gone down that rabbit hole). There really ought not be any active manipulation of the hands through the zone and attempts to precisely time any such rolling or flipping - which does nothing for swing speed - have relegated many an amateur to the vast abyss of inconsistency and frustration.
      So, keep your connections intact and without forcing anything simply allow the arms to be react to the motion and into your finish. There ought not be any discomfort in properly doing so.
      Tom

    This drill, along with your advice on "weakening" my grip, is paying massive dividends right now. I'm a decent golfer, but have always struggled with inconsistent ball striking. Now, I am making flush contact almost every swing, and my ball flight, instead of a hard draw or flare right, is straight as a freakin' arrow! Thanks, Tom, golf is really fun for me right now...especially when I see the guys I play with jaws drop.

    Hi Tom,
    I’m one of your older viewers (72) and I gave the game up about 30 years ago (I used to get terrible back ache and could only play 9 holes) but I’ve decided to give another try and see how it goes. I’ve been going to the driving range and experimenting with this single plane golf swing but wasn’t convinced that I could change it and wasn’t having very good results but having watched your videos I’m super excited to go to the range again and try your methods. Thanks for your great tips on this swing, I’m convinced it will work. By the way my back has held up well so far.

      @ianlindsay1454 - That is fantastic! I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you, and I'm thrilled about your pain-free progress thus far!
      By the way, you really are not one of my "older" viewers - you're actually right in the "sweet spot". 😎 In actuality a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.
      And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ That is where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner.
      You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.
      Thanks for the update and keep up the great work!! 💪💪

      Hi, thanks for your reply. It’s great to hear that somebody is older than me in this game and playing his best golf in 80 years. You sound very pleased with Toms lessons and that gives me great encouragement to carry on and hopefully this will work for me too. I spend most of my time on the driving range trying to replicate the shots the way I used to do it. I’ve been out on the course a couple of times with one of my sons and two of my grandsons but my performances were awful and I lost easily. I was very frustrating knowing how I used to play but couldn’t do it anymore, so I told them no more on the course till I sorted myself out on the range. And now I’ve been trying this one plane swing method which hasn’t really worked for me but now I’ve seen Toms method which I liked a lot and can’t wait to try it on my next range visit. I’m hoping this will be my turning point and give me the ability to give my son and grandsons a run for their money, lol. I am optimistic.

      Hi Tom, thanks for taking the time to reply to my comment. It’s so nice to hear you have pupils of senior age like me and older, gives me encouragement to carry on. I must admit I was wondering if I was wasting my time trying to play again but watching your method has given me great inspiration. I can’t wait to get on the range again and try your method. I’ve been dabbling with the one plane swing following Todd Graves and Kirk Junge but I didn’t have much success, I feel confident that your methods will work. I will definitely give your online school some thought, it’s an avenue I’ve never considered going down before but now it may be the way to go, I’ll let you know. I certainly don’t have the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast or of pliable golf instructor. That may be my downfall, I’ve had both my knee joints successfully replaced and I think that and being an old man means that I can’t get the same flexibility I had when I was younger, lol. I’ve scored in the 70s when I was younger but my score was usually somewhere in the 80s. Now I can’t get under 100 but your method may be the answer to my dreams. Thanks.
      Ian.

      Hi Ian .for a start I am based in Scotland the home of Golf and I know 5 Ian Lindsay's LOL do you have Scottish ancestry. but one thing we all have in common Young Tom seriously the best Golf Instructor ever . as an 80 year old Spinal Consultant still working .Golf Professionals - Armature's patients all have one thing in common needless injuries simply caused by poor golf . instructions . you can only be injured if not taught how to swing properly . this is how Young Toms demonstrations are so visually instructive . shoulders -arms -wrists -hips legs -knees - feet all working for the take away to the follow through all working together not fighting each other .I am certain If Tiger and all the injured retired Pros .had only had access to Young Toms teaching they could 99 % of them still be playing competitively with Young Toms instructions . my nearest course Gleneagles may I say where Europe won the 2014 .Ryder Cup .So Ian you WILL have great days out playing with the family all thanks to Young Tom .Cheers from Scotland . There is one other person I go to for tips on here, try the get low and compress the ball for "more" power. Went to the range today, after a jumbo bucket, then with 20 balls left in my large bucket I got after the jumbo I thought to myself. Let's go back to Tom's advice on the golf swing and keep it simple. 7iron was carrying 20 yards further with a lot less effort. Thanks for all the great information you provide.

    Hey Tom- Elbows together with all clubs, including Driver? Does the training aid work with Driver as well?
    Thanks…

    • @die7fox
      @die7fox 2 місяці тому

      My own experience with this training aid and driver was mixed. Since my driver ball position is so far forward, I release the club much later than with my irons, and I found the trainer got in the way of that. Where it really helped me was with maintaining good hand position in my backswing and the start/middle of my downswing. I use the trainer for my irons and hybrids, and when I'm comfortable with those, I take the trainer off before I move on to driver. Eventually, you'll find you won't need the trainer at all. Hi Ron,
      Yes - this swing key as well as the training aid can also be applied to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ua-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/v-deo.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
      I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact.
      So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )
      For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice have caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver.
      Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". Thanks Tom and die Fox- I’ve found that as had been mentioned on this channel. To get our weight on our front foot, that helps promote a ball first then ground contact to compress the shots on the ground. I always try to keep the grip ahead of the club head, that creates leverage on the ground shots. I try to setup in the position I’ll be at contact, if nothing more than a trigger to start my swing… ie Matthew Wolfe. With the driver being farther up, not so much. My hands on my ground shots are usually on the crease on my front leg. At the top of my backswing my trail hand could hold a platter of food, or a round of beer without spilling. I see the pro’s tucking their shirt sleeve under their arm, and some different ones. I appreciate both of your replies back. Tom, you were one of the first I watched on UA-cam. Not only do I watch you, I pass along to others, where I volunteer my time at a local range a couple of days a week, to give back, promote the game, and try to help others. I’m grateful for the game of golf, as I recently passed 70, and still enjoy the game, even with arthritis in my fingers and all. Thanks for JumboMax grips, and Bionic gloves….

      @@SagutoGolf I agree that being taught to "hit up" on the ball has led to confusion. Every time I tried to do it, I ended up swinging outside my swing plane at the bottom of my swing and hitting the ball hard to the left (I'm right-handed). Just making sure my club head was level with the ball at impact is enough for me to get it in the air and get a nice draw.

    Thank you sir, for easy, helpful tips that I can take to the range this year. I have way too many swing thoughts these days, and my golf game has gone from a respectable 11, to an 18. Once I have a bad hole, I start to doubt everything and seem to try to self correct on the fly. With this one drill, I can actually play this way, if need be, (and like your friend) be perfectly happy just getting great contact. That’s my biggest problem when I start to play poorly, contact. The worse I hit it, the more I try to “scoop” the ball up into the air, which I realize makes it WORSE! Ha! Thank you again, I signed up for your free lessons.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 місяці тому

      Your observations are correct, Ben. The need for a weight shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. This system certainly allows for some transfer of pressure into the trail side during the takeaway. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club backwards during that initial stage of the swing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thereby our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. In the swing I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion.

      Hi Ryan,
      A study of the best golfers of all time revealed that they all had 3 things in common (the 3 main golf fundamentals): 1. Hitting the ground in the same spot every time. 2. Having enough power to play the golf course well. 3. Having a predictable shot shape. A player MUST possess these three non-negotiables in order to truly be good at golf. How they accomplish it varies as much as the different swings you see at any Tour event. What I happen to teach is a body-friendly, low-maintenance swing system that provides a means to master all of the above, and since it is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to super seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the top players in the world.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 місяці тому

      Certainly a very powerful move that generates a ton of speed. Jake's is more of a two-plane motion that necessitates him having to precisely "drop it in the slot" each and every time. Of course it took him years and countless swings day in and day out to hone his craft and get his swing dialed in to this extent, and that's a testimony to his hard work, determination, and perseverance.
      What I teach is a one-plane motion - in other words you don't have to drop it in the slot if you just put it there in the first place. 😎 This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top.
      Thousands of folks across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning this swing system through my online school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Compare and contrast that with the sad reality that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well).

    So do I caulk my wrist on the backswing?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi Roger,
      The wrists do hinge in the backswing, but this should not be a consciously manufactured action.
      If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power.

      I've never actually given that a try, so I can't offer any specific cack-handed advice. However, the general principles of what I teach in terms of tilting, turning, extending, and having the big muscles drive the motion would all still apply. In other words, if we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the swing to the shoulders and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. Seeing your right hand is in the neutral position at address, then hearing the clicks as you swing the club back, I'm assuming the trainer has some kind of ratchet mechanism that, as you dorsiflex your hand (bend it backwards), the internal ratchet is one way, so once pulled backwards, the hand cannot return to neutral, during the downward strike. Then I suppose some kind of button or latch must be pressed, to release the ratchet, in order for the hand to return to neutral, before you can setup for another ball. -Am I right? Is that how it works?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi Todd,
      Yes - you are absolutely spot on. As the wrists hinge in the backswing the natural and unforced action of the trail wrist is causing those ratchet clicks which lock it into the proper position (what we refer to as the "flying wedge"). Upon completion of the swing there is a manual release mechanism which enables you to reset for the next swing.

However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder/armpit), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact.
This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. I was shooting in the mid 80’s towards the end of last year took a break during December because that’s my busy time at work, started up again in January and felt like a dang gymnast with all the flipping in my golf swing, I was getting away with it with my wedges but mid irons all the way to driver my flipping was messing up my swing path and causing poor contact and a fade/slice can’t wait to get out there and really work on keeping that trail wrist bent through impact!!!

      Well, I subscribe to and teach the Stack and Tilt swing and choose to "stay in my lane" when it comes to other lesson content out there. That's certainly not a slap against any other methodologies; it's simply that the system I teach is rooted in physics and geometry, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers. As such it works for me and for countless golfers across the globe who continue to flood my inbox with unsolicited testimonials of enjoying the best golf of their lives. Having said that, since Stack and Tilt is a robust swing system based on data from the game’s best golf ball strikers, I am never surprised to learn of similarities between components of my teaching and what other very capable instructors are saying.

    I make great contact but balls starting left if target???

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 місяці тому +1

      It's important to know why the ball is behaving a particular way in order to reverse engineer the cause. The ball is simply responding to the flight plan assigned to it by the clubface at impact. Clubface relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. So in the case of a pull, the face is closed to the target line at impact. There are various possible causes for this, including the face being too shut at address, a grip that is too strong, a ball position that is too far forward, a downswing path that is approaching the ball from the outside, flipping/rolling the hands through the zone and more. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first three possibilities - prior to diving into a swing intervention. For example, a golfer may have previously deployed a closed clubface at address and/or a strong grip to compensate for a slice due to a steep downswing path. If the path has been corrected, then that same grip can certainly result in pulled shots.
      While there are certainly videos on my channel that address these possibilities, a better option for you would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    Can you share vid about releasing the club? Your drill looks like it is never releasing it.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 місяці тому +1

      The abbreviated finish of this drill swing confirms the following: 1) We retained the structure of our arms and shoulders that we created at setup, 2) We had forward shaft lean at impact for crispy compression, and 3) We did not flip or roll our hands through the zone.
      With regard to the grossly erroneous notion that we need to affect some type of active hand-rolling “release", given the inability of most folks to spend sufficient time at the range to lock in the required exactness of such an action this misguided thought has led countless golfers astray. It's not something that even the vast majority of pros are trying to consciously manufacture during the split second that the clubhead is traveling a distance of approximately 6' from parallel to parallel at speeds in excess of 100 mph. The forearms will naturally "trade places" from pre- to post-impact, but this should not be construed as a contrived move (although many a casual observer has gone down that rabbit hole). There really ought not be any active manipulation of the hands through the zone and attempts to precisely time any such rolling or flipping - which does nothing for swing speed - have relegated many an amateur to the vast abyss of inconsistency and frustration. Here are a couple of videos on the proper "release":
      - ua-cam.com/video/nsAHRb-zVEA/v-deo.html
