I want to thank you for saving my home button. I read the horror stories about it not functioning after a screen replacement. I followed your instructions and used a regular playing card, not a plastic one, it held the right amount of alcohol, and all went well. Your video is the best, thanks again.
Many thanks for this, after a screen swapI realised that the only way to get the home button working was to also change this back over for the original one. Clear instructions although I did find taking the big back plate off really hard so didn't do it.( the screws just didn't want to undo, and I didn't want to ruin my second tripoint driver!) Managed quite effectively to "unglue" unit with a plastic playing card, 70% hand gel and a little warming up (although got a little stuck over the locating nodule @5.43/5.44 in video). After that a breeze. Many thanks again.
If you dont have isoprop just heat it up with a hairdryer max setting on the glass side until its hot to touch then peel off with a finger and a spudger, more heat if needed and it would just get off and dont overscrew and dont mix screws
worked after hiting hard with the nuckles also had to push it harder at first even if it's just a glass button, than second day died again, it's strange because the vibration from it works if I use a app called phone vibration phaterns, also fingerprint works, I wonder if this is because ios 15.7.7 or a software froblem, runed full reset from the phone but nothing changed, I may try a dfu when I return in the city. Wish apple just give us the option to turn fingerprint in homebuton, like that duble tap that brings display down could had been easy set as home buton if they gave us the option.
I've just replaced a screen on the iPhone 7 I used a aftermarket home button that comes with the screen off eBay the phone kept boot looping so I put the original home button in from the cracked screen and the phone turns on but the button don't work at all
I replaced my iPhone 7 screen and removed my home button and it doesnt work now but doesnt appear to be damaged could it be a screen issue? This has happen before in the past for me with a screen that I returned
Hi, nice video. My iphone 7 fell to the floor and then the home button stopped working ... it is possible that it has only been disconnected or it is necessary to change it?
I broke the button two days before when I am replacing the screen. Like you said it very delegate to handle and sos sensitive like paper it broke. I have to open the phone again to replace the home button . Can you please post the website link to buy the iPhone 7 home button for black .... Thank you so much for the video. Regards, Sri
Go Cell Phone Repair So is there any chance you can replace the home button for a new one? I'm aware that you'll lose the id touch but just the opening function? Because I have one 7 and one 7 plus and I've been trying like crazy but without any success.
Ah sorry to hear that. Replacing an iPhone 7 home button is purely cosmetic unless you transfer the original U10 aka Turtle IC from the original. Something that I have yet to do but hope to offer as a service eventually. Look up the GLon UA-cam channel. He sells a tool that is supposed to make this possible.
Ahmad Darwish I’m no expert by any means but you might have a bad connection somewhere? You could try disconnecting and reconnecting the different connectors 🤷♂️ I’m really unsure
If you ripped the Touch ID ribbon connector coming from the screen you should replace the screen. If you ripped the ribbon coming from the screen and took out the broken part of the ribbon and your phone is boot looping, just put the broken ribbon back in even if it’s connected to nothing, and your phone won’t boot loop. Nevertheless you should still replace the screen at some point in time. If you replace the home button because you broke the ribbon connected directly to the button you won’t have any functionality but it won’t boot loop. So you don’t need to replace the button to prevent boot looping. If you broke the ribbon connected directly to home button, what you can do is pay a professional to do all of the micro-soldering to replace the ribbon connected to he home button. I hope this helped somebody
Much appreciated. Was doing a battery replacement and aside from the grease and crumbs off the chips the last person was eating, and their "anti tamper" stickers holding 3 screws they forgot to reinstall into the gap where the batt cable runs they left a partially torn home button cable that I finished off just from opening the screen. Not my first rodeo with this Ip7 and ip7+, but my first for touch ID issue. I thought it was a 1 piece cable but looking up ifixit and some videos like this I see that I can replace the screen and carefully swap the existing original home button over and everything will be good. A little expensive and now I have to wait for more parts vs the 30mins the batt replace was meant to take but at least I'm not trying to deal with Apple / postage to their stores again. I hope you're still around and see that you've saved a few of us from a headache you legend :)
Yes. If you use 99% isopropyl the adhesive should be sticky again after it dries. It usually doesn't need to be replaced until the button has been transferred a few times. Use your judgement there.
hell, heat up the front of the screen, pinch the connector itself and slowly peel the cable up being sure not to pull too hard or too fast and it comes up with in 10 seconds total.
I've just replaced a screen on the iPhone 7 I used a aftermarket home button that comes with the screen off eBay the phone kept boot looping so I put the original home button in from the cracked screen and the phone turns on but the button don't work at all
Yes, the following are listed as compatible 7 / 7 Plus / 8 / 8 Plus / SE (2020) / SE (2022). You will of course not retain Touch ID however if you replace the home button.
I followed this video and put a bit of alcohol under the cable to get home my button loose but unfortunately the alcohol seeped into the back on my LCD and now it appears I have damaged my screen. For those of you guys doing this, do not drip any alcohol on the cable as it may go behind your LCD and damage your screen
Dropped my phone and home button flew off lol. I now have a hole where home button is. From reading looks like don’t bother replacing it? Anyone see how much apple would charge to replace just home button.
Ebay has them m.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Home-Button-Key-Flex-Cable-Replacement-For-Apple-iPhone-7-iPhone-7-Plus-/192253010657?var=&hash=item2cc32c22e1%3Am%3Am2fiZ93tO6KuphPehwR4Xsg&_trkparms=pageci%253Aedf9e06b-aa49-11e7-9637-74dbd180a30b%257Cparentrq%253Aefd129d915e0aa48a33c73b0fffee2f0%257Ciid%253A1
Well after watching as many videos as possible I followed your instructions just about to the letter. I didn't take of the backing plate, and I avoided bending the ribbon more than 90°. Your rubbing alcohol suggestion was a winner. I used a small piece of x-ray instead of a playing card. Old X-rays can open locked doors, which is why I thought of using it here. Check out the videos on youtube. Thanx, you've got my subscription
'Tis merely a flesh wound. Haha, actually I have no idea how that happened. One of those weird things where you notice it and wonder where it came from. All healed now and looked worse than it really was. From the direction of it I must have reached for something and scraped along an object sharp enough that it wasn't noticeable. Either that or a cat got me while I was asleep.
Rubbing alcohol. whoda thunk it. So I fubar the top cable , used the tweezers to try to pry it up, ended up splitting the cable junction. Its actually 2 cables soldered together, who knew? So i did more resarch found this slapped some hand sanitizer on one of the cable tie down brackets and jualla got it off, and put back on the new screen and tested. Virtual beer for you sir.
When taking replacing a home button of an iphone which hasnt had any work done to it prior, then the adhesive is gonna be much stronger then that shown in the video, just saying.
This is a dead easy job, but due to way too much talking the video is very frustrating to watch and took over 6 minutes instead of only 2 minutes. I recommend a repeat with less babbling..., all the same I still gave it a thumbs up..
Thanks for the input. I'll see about making a short out of this when I can. It's one of those things where some people require a lot more detail than others so I like to err on the safe side. If you play it at 2X you can reduce it to 3 minutes.
Unplugging the cable doesn’t need to take this long. Just do it with your finger because no one cares about the screen connector your replacing the screen anyways
April.Vee it’s super fragile apple are making things worse and worse so no body can repair their products but people are smart day by day to find the solutions
Video could’ve easily been 2 or 3 minutes if you didn’t talk and explain so much. Don’t need a crash course in phone repair, just need to be shown what to do, don’t need to know what the bits do

He’s not lying 😂 my home button doesn’t work no more wish I would’ve seen this video sooner
Same broke mine too 😂
I got lazy and just placed it next to a heater, thanks for the instructions and adhesive warning! It still works lol
If you dont have isoprop just heat it up with a hairdryer max setting on the glass side until its hot to touch then peel off with a finger and a spudger, more heat if needed and it would just get off and dont overscrew and dont mix screws
Video is good and helpful. Why this home buttons breaking so easily ?
Thank you, if I’ve not seen this video before doing this, I’m sure I would’ve damaged my phone. Now it works great THANK YOU
Does the touch id work??
How is the hardest thing which is removing the screws
So what if you don’t screw up the home button metal panel back to the phone, will your home button still work? 0:22
Awesome video. Well done and explained
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you. With patience and precision you saved me $100. And I would very much like to buy you a beer one day
You're welcome!

You won't have touch ID of course but here's a link ebay.to/2r9tIXd
Go Cell Phone Repair but will everything else work? Besides the Touch ID ?
Wish I had watched you video first. It would have saved me a lot of trouble! Thanks for the detailed explanation!
Keep up good work 🙏🙏🙏🙏
awesome video...very helpful thank you!
My iphone 8 home button feels loose from bottom is there any fix for it?? Pls reply
What does it matter if you damage the old one, which you set out to replace anyways?
It is being transferred into a new screen and not replaced. If you replace it you will lose functionality.

my home button when i tap it, taps 3 times, and if i hold it, itll just vibrate and click several times. any suggestions?
this is my problem did you find a solution, I just replaced the taptic feedback, that made no difference
Ahmad Darwish I’m no expert by any means but you might have a bad connection somewhere? You could try disconnecting and reconnecting the different connectors 🤷♂️ I’m really unsure
Thank you for your very detailed explanation!
Can you direct me to resources to fix this if it's bent?
Thanks for help
I needed this video as I broke my iPhone 7 home button and I don’t want to break my iPhone 8’s home button
what is you screw driver brand?
The one in this video is Qianli if I remember correctly. Since then I've switched to a different one but can't find any brand name on it.

So...did this iPhone’s Home Button work after you did this repair?
Yes. We do this regularly. In the event that it was damaged during repair I’d have to replace the customers phone.

Thank You for responding.
Did the adhesive stick again after you removed the home button with the 99% alcohol?

I don’t get why you need to remove the big plate, looks easy enough to remove and replace the ribbon cables on the button.
I've just replaced a screen on the iPhone 7 I used a aftermarket home button that comes with the screen off eBay the phone kept boot looping so I put the original home button in from the cracked screen and the phone turns on but the button don't work at all

iPhone 7 Home Buttons CAN NOT be replaced with a different ones
Hicham Oihdi why not?
Just because ÿöü don't know how does not make it impossible
It can be replaced
You need a universal home button
yes they can lol
Thank you!
Thanks! Couldnt figure out why my button repairs kept messing up
Hi guys try tweezers next time pushing down away from the home button always works for me
Thank you very much for this video, you're very easy to understand and knowledgeable. Thank you for your video!
Lifesaver
Is like performing a brain surgery x-x
Good job! Thanks for the tips.
Unique home button paired with motherboard.
You can apply a SMALL amount of heat from a heat gun. Comes right up
good trick with the heat, keep your finger on the i.c, soon as you feel that starting to get warm, you're good to peel the connector up
My home button is not working with Touch ID and I want to fix it
Is this solve the problem, that the home button is too loud? Like clicking sound?
I followed this video and put a bit of alcohol under the cable to get home my button loose but unfortunately the alcohol seeped into the back on my LCD and now it appears I have damaged my screen. For those of you guys doing this, do not drip any alcohol on the cable as it may go behind your LCD and damage your screen
Can i use 91%alchole
Yes. Just don't use very much and make sure that it dries up completely.
why not use new home buttom iphone 7plus
Touch ID info is paired to the logic board. Change the home button and it goes away.
Change new home buttom but not in use why
Please restate your comment.

But will it be functional as a home button?
@@jbettss Last time I checked no. Pretty sure 12.1.2 still does not support click function on after market home buttons.
Dropped my phone and home button flew off lol. I now have a hole where home button is. From reading looks like don’t bother replacing it? Anyone see how much apple would charge to replace just home button.
They charge $350 for the home button
Is this like a common problem for the 7? If it is, I’m probably just going to stick with the 6...
Only when it comes to transferring the button to a new screen as far as I know.
Where I can get the new home button, because main was damaged
If you can't fix the home button then only Apple can help you. It is not replaceable.
Ebay has them m.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Home-Button-Key-Flex-Cable-Replacement-For-Apple-iPhone-7-iPhone-7-Plus-/192253010657?var=&hash=item2cc32c22e1%3Am%3Am2fiZ93tO6KuphPehwR4Xsg&_trkparms=pageci%253Aedf9e06b-aa49-11e7-9637-74dbd180a30b%257Cparentrq%253Aefd129d915e0aa48a33c73b0fffee2f0%257Ciid%253A1
Touch ID will be gone if you use those.
not only touch ID, the button will not function at all.
Yup you gotta take it to Apple
Bro, stack on welcome page my iPhone 7 plus home button damaged. How can I go to next step without press the home button? please help me...
Zony Jan use assistive touch and use that as your home button
You mean 'stuck'
Push power button and slide to power down. Then restart it, it should now start up at the language menu.
My home button fell off somehow I need to replace it
title should be how to remove your Home button without damaging it..... it cannot be replaced......
Can I change an iPhone 6 home button? I want to use the Touch ID

in 2022, my adhesive was dead on and even heating it up for minutes didn't help much... one homebutton for the bin now
Thats how my phone looks rn
hig-precision piece of equipment? what a joke it's a poorly made easily broken piece of garbage and it's made that way on purpose, DUH!!!
if i would have seen this earlier
So what did you do wrong?
Pryed (using the plastic tool he used to hold down) and the cable broke off
My button just fell out for no reason
Mike, what happened to your thumb? That looks like a gnarly scar!

I shit ripped it.
the process takes 17 seconds with screen desembly you waste 6 minutes
bubuu
That home button isn't as fragile as you think it is.
lol yes it is, too much heat will damage touch id, too much pressure will damage the cable and it will be rendered useless
April.Vee it’s super fragile apple are making things worse and worse so no body can repair their products but people are smart day by day to find the solutions
Yes it is. Learned the hard way
I do this for a living. This is NOT the best way to do it. You really should use heat and something thinner than a credit card.
I've been doing this for a living as well since 1994. There is no credit card in the video so maybe you have me confused with someone else.
