This song touched me deeply. All my life I have been humiliated from being over weight, walking with limp (dislocated hip) not being pretty enough. I've been abused, molested, laughed at and just disrespected. From strangers, family and even supposed friends. It took me years to build some self esteem and self worth. Im now 50+ years old and finally found my true voice. I won't be disrespected nor will I allow myself to be used. I still fall back now and then but I always find my strength. I recently found this song and have made this my anthem. When i feel down and those worthlessness feelings try to rise i listen to this song. Cry my tears of cleansing and start all over.
Wow this actually almost brought me to tears, im 13 going 14 next week and i have been through all of that too. I dislocated my hip when i was 10 years old and had to have a wheelchair because i couldn't even use crutches,i have been diagnosed with ehlers danlos and hypermobility syndrome so i can relate to you, i have been bullied for a long period of time in my life for being me and like i said i understand how you feel,im glad im not alone with this.

The thing I love most about this song that how it doesn't just soothe, it _energizes._ Many songs on the same emotion soothe you, they tell you it's okay to be different. But this song....she's not just saying "don't let their words get to you", the lyric is specifically "gonna send a flood, gonna drown 'em out." It's not about "I am bruised", but also "this is who I'm meant to be", as if you actively worked to survive that damage. There's an element of activity in the words; the song energizes you into wanting to pushback on the dismissive or degrading comments and treatment, makes you want to demand the dignity you deserve as a person living in the world. You're not wrong just for being different, and you deserve to stand up for yourself and your right to love yourself just as you are. Without fail, this song doesn't just make me feel better, it makes feel _capable,_ and that's exactly the magic those who resonate with this song need.

My daughter couldn’t talk like a neurotypical child until she was 4 due to global developmental delays. She’s now 13 and had a solo in her chorus concert singing this song. I cried because the words “this is me” have described her whole life, all her struggles, but mostly her wonderful personality and kindness. "This is Me" won the Golden Globe for best original song, and this is the thread for that song. Pasek & Paul won the Golden Globe & Oscar last year for "City of Stars" from La La Land. So this is their 2nd Golden Globe win in a row. Hopefully, they'll be nominated for the Oscar and win, making it 2 Oscars in a row. They're also nominated for 2 Grammy Awards, so we'll see how that goes as well.

This song always bring a tear to my eyes, since I was bullied for a solid 12 years. Just for being different, since I was autistic and never followed the crowd. I was held against walls being choked, punched, kicked, beaten, put in choke holds on the floor which nearly knocked me out and the worst part was being stabbed, all this happened in school. In my old job I was also bullied and discriminated against. Then in 2019 i was diagnosed with having a brain tumour and cyst in the temporal lobes of my brain and diagnosed with epilepsy. I had the tumour and cyst removed in 2020 and thankfully they were not cancerous. I now have to have a yearly MRI for 10 years to make sure that the tumour doesn’t come back and I have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. Now I’m due to graduate university in July with a masters degree in computer security and networks and I have also started my dream job as an IT Engineer
Hi. I’m autistic too :). I have never been physically bullied like you were. I have been emotionally and mentally bullied though. One girl tried to turn my only two friends in a new school against me right before one of which who was my BFF was going to move away. There’s a girl who I knew since kindergarten and she’s lived in my grandparents neighborhood since we were little and I would see her all the time. In third grade a new kid came to my school. Said new kid manipulated her into bully me. She was always kinda mean and bratty but she was nice to me and we would go trick or treating every year with our little siblings together. But once that new kid came that changed. As I already said she bullied me a bit. She stole my favorite jacket. Now quick side note but that jacket was my most treasured possession. It has stopped being made and I’ve never seen one like it ever again. She not only stole it but she wore it in front of me. Lied straight to my face about it and lost it. She gave it away for a whole year! My mom had to go to hers to get it back. When I did get it back it was stained and ripped. Sorry I’m not trying to make my experiences seem worse than yours at all. Yours are worse and you don’t deserve any of it. But I might be seeing the girl who stole my jacket again soon and I need to vent about it. I hope your doing well
You're not alone. I was never really physically bullied. I got shoved numerous times but that was it. Nothing was ever done about it until I told the vice principal of my school. I think they didn't physically bully me because I was pretty much the tallest person in my year group. If I did physically hurt them, they'd know about it. I used to lash out at my family physically, years ago. It went on for a while. I could not stop it once it started. Long story short, I managed to make it stop and I'm like the most patient person in the world unless I'm already in a mood.

I'm epileptic too. I was never ashamed of it the only shame I felt was the lows thr bullies stopped post seizures at school.i felt sorry for them. Embarrassed that they couldny accept me. Be proud of how far you've come- many adults never mind teens couldnt keep going through multiple seizures days weeks months and years on end. Especially when I've likened it to running 5 marathons in 5mins.

This movie was truly phenomenal. I LOVED Letty’s(the bearded lady’s) voice. This is definitely my favorite song of the whole soundtrack. And I love how the lyrics are basically “I exist, get the fuck over it.” I can’t get over Keala Settle’s voice(the actress who played the bearded lady). UGH so good.

I’ve been through a whole being bullied and rejected from my family, school, and life. I have epilepsy, high anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, depression, and also on spectrum. My best friend has autism, too and she's the best thing that ever happened to me. I'm a highly sensitive person, and when i'm having my best friend around I feel like I don't need to get stressed or pretend to be someone i'm not. I can just be myself, because I know she will always understand accept me for who I am. Austistic people are simply amazing - sometimes even more friendly, kind and compassionate than any "healthy" person can ever be. I want you to know, that I'm rooting for you. You're amazing. @@waterhorse_httyd657 Yes, I think we tend to make room for individuality more than a neurotypical person does. However, it's important to note that being autistic, does not mean one is unhealthy. Autism is a developmental condition or state of being. Not a mental illness. That being said, autistic people can have other disabilities, conditions or illnesses comorbid with autism that can make them unhealthy or chronically ill. Just think it's important to make that distinction. So many people think that all autistic people are suffering, when in fact, most of us are quite content and happy to be who we are. We see the world in such a deep, beautiful way. I actually feel bad for those who don't see it this way. Autism is a beautiful state of being and I wake up thankful every day I was created this way. So glad you and your friend both found someone to accept each other unconditionally.

I am so glad I saw this movie in theaters. I left the theater in such a great mood and actually happy. It had at the time probably been years since I have had that feeling leaving a movie. This is how movies should be made especially if they are musicals.

The thing I love most about this song that how it doesn't just soothe, it _energizes._ Many songs on the same emotion soothe you, they tell you it's okay to be different. But this song....she's not just saying "don't let their words get to you", the lyric is specifically "gonna send a flood, gonna drown 'em out." It's not about "I am bruised", but also "this is who I'm meant to be", as if you actively worked to survive that damage. So this is their 2nd Golden Globe win in a row. Hopefully, they'll be nominated for the Oscar and win, making it 2 Oscars in a row. They're also nominated for 2 Grammy Awards, so we'll see how that goes as well.

This song always bring a tear to my eyes, since I was bullied for a solid 12 years. Just for being different, since I was autistic and never followed the crowd. I was held against walls being choked, punched, kicked, beaten, put in choke holds on the floor which nearly knocked me out and the worst part was being stabbed, all this happened in school. In my old job I was also bullied and discriminated against. Then in 2019 i was diagnosed with having a brain tumour and cyst in the temporal lobes of my brain and diagnosed with epilepsy. I had the tumour and cyst removed in 2020 and thankfully they were not cancerous. I now have to have a yearly MRI for 10 years to make sure that the tumour doesn’t come back and I have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. Now I’m due to graduate university in July with a masters degree in computer security and networks and I have also started my dream job as an IT Engineer

Hi. I’m autistic too :). I have never been physically bullied like you were. I have been emotionally and mentally bullied though. One girl tried to turn my only two friends in a new school against me right before one of which who was my BFF was going to move away.
There’s a girl who I knew since kindergarten and she’s lived in my grandparents neighborhood since we were little and I would see her all the time. In third grade a new kid came to my school. Said new kid manipulated her into bully me. She was always kinda mean and bratty but she was nice to me and we would go trick or treating every year with our little siblings together. But once that new kid came that changed. As I already said she bullied me a bit. She stole my favorite jacket.
Now quick side note but that jacket was my most treasured possession. It has stopped being made and I’ve never seen one like it ever again.
She not only stole it but she wore it in front of me. Lied straight to my face about it and lost it. She gave it away for a whole year! My mom had to go to hers to get it back. When I did get it back it was stained and ripped.
Sorry I’m not trying to make my experiences seem worse than yours at all. Yours are worse and you don’t deserve any of it. But I might be seeing the girl who stole my jacket again soon and I need to vent about it. I hope your doing well

You're not alone. I was never really physically bullied. I got shoved numerous times but that was it. Nothing was ever done about it until I told the vice principal of my school. I think they didn't physically bully me because I was pretty much the tallest person in my year group. If I did physically hurt them, they'd know about it. I used to lash out at my family physically, years ago. It went on for a while. I could not stop it once it started. Long story short, I managed to make it stop and I'm like the most patient person in the world unless I'm already in a mood.

I'm epileptic too. I was never ashamed of it the only shame I felt was the lows thr bullies stopped post seizures at school.i felt sorry for them. Embarrassed that they couldny accept me. Be proud of how far you've come- many adults never mind teens couldnt keep going through multiple seizures days weeks months and years on end. Especially when I've likened it to running 5 marathons in 5mins.
I'm epileptic too it may limit what you can do to some aspects but it doesn't limit the person you are be proud of you and love you God bless you

This movie was truly phenomenal. I LOVED Letty’s(the bearded lady’s) voice. This is definitely my favorite song of the whole soundtrack. And I love how the lyrics are basically “I exist, get the fuck over it.” I can’t get over Keala Settle’s voice(the actress who played the bearded lady). UGH so good.

Autism is a developmental condition or state of being. Not a mental illness. That being said, autistic people can have other disabilities, conditions or illnesses comorbid with autism that can make them unhealthy or chronically ill. Just think it's important to make that distinction. So many people think that all autistic people are suffering, when in fact, most of us are quite content and happy to be who we are. We see the world in such a deep, beautiful way. I actually feel bad for those who don't see it this way. Autism is a beautiful state of being and I wake up thankful every day I was created this way. So glad you and your friend both found someone to accept each other unconditionally.

I have waited so long for the full version to come out and it sounds magnificent. Wasn't able to comment on this because I was trying to come up with words to describe this song. Keala is amazing and brings that gospel voice in this song and the ensemble cast that backs her up are going full force and it sounds awesome. Cannot wait for this movie to come out.
