  • Hunting for the all allusive Iris Agate can be a test for any rockhound, you just never know until you cut and polish them, if you’ve caught a rainbow.

Oh dude theo! Man I basically filmed this for you haha! I was like, “okay before I cut and polish an iris agate from theo, I’m gonna try and find one and show the two together…” I think IF I found one, reguardless, your piece you sent me is out of control and would be arrested if rainbow magic was illegal! Honestly! It’s gawgeous! And dude, seriously, take a second, I wouldn’t have made this video if it weren’t for how much work you put in to investigate iris agates and also to share it with everyone else. Thank you brother. I really do mean that!

I luv those Iris Agates too. Lucky you got that Rockhounding session in, before the floods. Poor old Rh123 she must have had the water gushing under n past her place, I know I was landlocked for a few days! Grateful tho..such gut wrenching scenes all round, spreading across 2states, unbelievable! Hope you n yours didn't suffer any devistation!
    Look forward to part 2👍

Oh Katherine I’m so happy you guys were as okay as possible. We were absolutely fine, we’re in upper coomera and the coomera river didn’t rise as much as those out your way. Absolutely gut wrenching. We’re heading down south tomorrow with Pauly but it’s going to be interesting to say the least. They copped it hard down there also. Very hard times for so many right now. Sending love!!!

“Nodules from basalt” yes, thank you. That one quote opened my eyes wide and confirmed my thought on a tip where to search. Recently at Picket Post in Superior AZ, Climbing to the basalt bluffs with the doggies, I came upon a bit of nodules. Many of them orbicular conglomerates in a matrix of rhyolite. I called them conglomerates too because they are. So I will continue my search around the bluffs of which there are too many for a life time between Picket Post and Apache Leap and so many more.
Your comment when describing the nodule at 9min sparked a thought. The entire process of the conglomerated nodule obviously involved heat, so how did all those little orbicular nodules wrap up together in a matrix of crucible glass melting, heated rhyolite? It appears to pop a big hole in the vug theory. As it should.
    Love your work

Oh man, what a great way to start my Friday! Thank you, my friend, for sharing with us another excellent adventure! 👍Sorry about the darn drone, ugh~ I personally get very down on myself for such events but you really took it well brother! I've found that here in Oregon, many agates out of the John Day River, (clear agates with ghosty blue fortification banding) when sliced thin (2-3mm thick) have great potential for iris behavior and have a few beautiful cuts on my shelf, unfortunately without the backlighting no one ever notices them unless I show em.🤦‍♂Thanks again my friend from afar, hoping you and your family are doing well! Take care~

    • @Rookie_Rockounding
      @Rookie_Rockounding  2 роки тому +1

Shaughn my good sir!!!!!! Man trust me I didn’t let it go as easily as it looked haha! I mean I was okay to walk away but only after laying on the rocks for a couple of minutes and also spending two attempts at finding it over about an hour… but that’s the magic of editing. It was really strange because it happened so early into the hunt, so I had to shake it off to enjoy the rest of the hounding. Otherwise I wouldn’t have found anything else I reckon. I really do think mindset has a lot to do with what you’re able to notice when out in the creek so it was a bit of a test. But ultimately, I was lucky to have a drone while I did in the first place.
And dude I really hope these guys have some rainbow. So far they’re too thick to show (4mm) so I’ve gotta polish them down a bit. But the piece I got from theo is stunning! They’re like secret special agates that only the visitors who ask about them get to enjoy 😉✨ haha!
Mate i Hope you have an awesome couple of weeks and I’ll see you soon for the polish. Cross your fingers and toes dude 😬🤞😬🤪

Jesse! So good to see your smiling face, friend! Loved this hunt and that Theo has you looking for iris agate. I too learned about iris from Theo and look forward to someday getting to cut my agates in the hopes of finding it! The water looked a bit high. You must've been out before the recent flooding. Hope you and yours are well and staying safe. Losing the drone is a downer, but hoping the cut agates make up for it. That last large piece is intriguing! Will be right here in a couple weeks for the next vid! All my best. ❤️❤️

Deeeeee my friend!!!!!! Yeah this was about a month ago and we had had what we thought was some good rains, but woah were we blind to what was coming. It’s been absolutely horrible for those effected. We got lucky in our town but it’s very close to home and just heartbreaking. Aussies are pretty resilient and they team up when these things happen. I reckon all these creeks will have changed dramatically.
I hope you’re keeping well and having a rad weekend! Sending much love!

In case you didn't know, some Iris Agate has to be cut in thinner sections, maybe a little less than a quarter inch. I don't know why, but I have seen a few videos on Iris Agate that say the thickness of the cut influences the amount of color that comes through. Sometimes they can be a quarter inch and have rainbows, sometimes they have to be really thin to see rainbows. Good hunting

Your filming style and editing are just amazing. Bummer about the drone. I figured you found it since there had been some drone shots before you lost it. Were those just from what is recorded on your phone? I have never even looked at those videos since I always use the SD card recordings. I thought the quality of the stuff recorded to the phone would be really low.

Firstly my good friend Jesse, what was that rock in front of the chalcedony just before the water find, looked a bit interesting.
Secondly, i'm sorry for your poor old drone, but I think it might have had an identity crisis and identified as a boat, not wanting half measures and becoming amphibious first, which may have been it's downfall.
Finally, Don't dispair, imean after all you are finding those agates that shouldn't even been there, the geographical location of those agates indicates they are thousands of miles from where they were formed, (even allowing for the shift and Australias departure from the civilised world before man existed, which is not at all a contradiction of the word civilised because someone must have been at the helm of the ship A.s.s Tralia) no insult intended.
The actual location for those agates is on my doorstep, quite litterally, Ireland is not that far away but I have never heard of Irish agates before today.
Stay strong, revolution looks like a better option. lol.

Now, I know they can help with neat footage, but honestly, I prefer your videos without the drone. Anyway, you emit great karma. Stuff happens cos it has to. Will have to hop over the ditch sometime.
