1965 Impala Gets a Modern Tremec TKX 5-Speed Transmission!

- For the final part of the restomod build series on our LS Swapped 1965 Impala Super Sport we are installing a Modern Tremec TKX 5-Speed Transmission. With the recent addition of a massive 6 piston Baer brake kit and full Ridetech coilover suspension we want to feel every bit of the power this 6.2L LS is putting down. The TKX is a brand new transmission from Tremec that packs a stout 600ftlb of torque rating is a small package that is on par with a regular T-5.

Had no idea you'd had this beauty since you were 16 !!!! Guess this means it's a keeper 🤣🤣 Must say this period of lmpala is my favourite , so classy ! Love everything you've done on this motor, subtle but so sweet ! I guess the clutch pedal was pretty straight forward . And the Tremec has been a favourite of Jay Leno's for years . Thanks guys .

Hey guys, love your videos. I understand you can’t put every detail in your videos but just have one question on the TKX install. How did you get your console to work when the shifter is in the middle of the tunnel. I’ve bought a TKX for my ‘65 and it was modified specifically to fit a 65’ with 4 speed console and I still can’t get it to fit without cutting the floor and modifying the console. Thanks for any input.

How do y'all feel about the tkx now that there are some miles on it, do you feel like it's a quieter, more refined trans than the t5, and tko? Mind you this was behind a n/a 4 cylinder with a high lift long duration cam, with a very light flywheel, the t5z I had was pretty unbearable as a daily driver, I bought it new from mdl, and then rebuilt it again and it was still just as loud, and harsh. This has been echoed by other folks that have had them behind the same engine (Volvo b230).
What did you guys do in terms of the hydraulic clutch? I want to get my 65 set up for a manual trans but the aftermarket doesn't list much for a clutch master cylinder or where to mount everything.

Quick question. I'm about to do a 6.0 4l80e swap. Did you have to modify your tranny tunnel alot or if any and would you have any pics to show if you did. Thanks for your help and keep up the great work.
The 4L80E fit my car perfect, with no massaging of the tunnel whatsoever. Hope that helps!

I had a 65 that i was rstoreing,i broke up with girlfriend she sold it on me,it was 80 perscent done missed up on paint job got water in spray gun line,i miss it terribly
