- Here are some proven high performance traditional budget priced carbon hunting arrows for your recurve or longbow that just flat out get it done and won’t break the bank!
God bless you brother. Check out the bloodsport evidence arrows as well. Pretty much the only micro diameter arrows I could find for a decent price. I think I paid like $48 for a 6 pack from Farmstead Outdoors. I didn't like the inserts they came with though (too light for my style) so I got black eagle's outsert system for higher FOC. They were slightly tight but nothing a tiny bit of sanding couldn't fix. It's my favorite setup now for high FOC with single bevel elk slayers. :)
EDIT: Forgot to mention that my draw length is pretty ridiculous (32.5") so most stock arrows won't work for me since I can't afford to cut them at all. That's another reason I really liked the outsert system. It adds about an inch of length where at full draw the very back of my broadhead just barely touches my knuckle. That has helped my form and consistency as well because it provides a second anchor. Okay, I'm done typing my novel LOL! Love your channel, thank you for all your amazing videos.
I stoped buying top end arrows after I tried a set of Dark-timber shafts from big Jim. They are tuff and very straight. Love your videos. God bless
Easton 6.5 Bowhunters replaced the Bemon ICS Bowhunters a few years back. I use to shoot the Bemon then was told by a Easton dealer to get the 6.5s, they were the same in comparison. Set them up exactly like my Bemons and they shoot great. No changes needed.

Tryed the eastons today with about 175 grains up front, went all over the place. I pull 26.5 inch on a #50 oberon recurve. Will put more weight and report back.

Easton 6.5 are always overlooked, but the ones who do are missing a great shaft. Compound our Trad. Others keep buying what they do, leave the 6.5’s for me and the others who know better! Was a Beman since they came out. Easton took over that tech and built the 6.5 for the archer who wants a well built arrow without going broke and looks good to boot! Truly an “adult” arrow!

I agree to the point that slimmer arrows act little weak. I switched from Axis to Victory Vforce, and they need more point weight now.
I have been talking up the 6.5's for awhile now. Super value. I have two friends I helped setup with these arrows on their compounds. I shoot them on my trad bow also.

Ill have to look into thesse options. Ironically, the best flying arrows I have are some old xx75 2016s i got out of the trash. They are full length so are long for my 27" draw. Also, technically they should be way stiff for my 55lb bow but they bareshaft and fly better than any carbon or aluminum ive tried.
The reason a slim diameter shaft appears to be weaker when bare shaft tuning is directly related to shooting off the shelf. The smaller the diameter, the closer the arrow will be to center of the riser. The less bending around the riser the arrow has to do, translates to less oscillations, more speed and penetration. I have shot a lot of different arrows, but settled on the Easton sonic 6.0, hard to beat the gold tip warrior for the price, but they sure are loud when drawing. Happy tinkering, thanks Jeff.
I like the Easton Sonic 6.0 also. I think they are the sweet spot.

I shot the Easton ACC Hunting shafts which were 5 mm & originally designed for Olympic Recurve shooters. Accurate with a flat trajectory but that's it. They will all wobble over time @ the end of the shaft when u spin them. There r so many good to great options now & I'm not brand loyal to anyone. I was able to perfectly tune my Blackeagle X-Impact shafts I built last March. The limbs on my ILF r 44 lbs in the medium length but I have a 19" riser & a long draw so to tune that shaft it had to be 30.25" & @ full draw it came out to about 52 lbs. Very consistent with a bare shaft or three 4" feathers. For that to happen I had to have a 400 spine. 27% FOC & right around 500 grains total arrow weight. Now I'm tied to this arrow cuz I can get the steel outsert that is custom fitted to this shaft size. But for the $ over the next 5-10 yrs it will be more cost effective. However for experiment reasons only I cut a set of Blackeagle arrows that r .005 straightness. The same 30.25" They r the trad arrow called the Instinct (ironically). They tuned week on the same bow setup. They r 400 spine with the stock Blackeagle outserts with a 125 grain Bohning point up front. The total arrow weight is heavier but g.p.i. make it too heavy & they just don't recover like the X-Impact shaft does. I have a set of ILF limbs very similar to my hunting setup that r just a tad smoother & 4# less than my hunting limbs. Those arrows shoot better with those limbs but if I put my X-Impact hunting shaft with those limbs then it's too stiff for the setup.
Exactly what u were saying in this video. My goal this spring is to get a longer riser for those limbs & experiment with some new 500 spine arrows for them. Sometimes the journey teaches u more than just getting results w/o knowing why ❤.
The Victory shafts I've made in the past years r nice but the cost isn't as good as others like the Blackeagle. I if a guy shoots a compound they r better off getting a 250 spine X-Impact compared to a 300 spine Victory VAP TKO. Just as tough & the straightness can't be beat & they recover just as quick as the VAP TKO which is known for that feature. Keep the videos coming & it's nice to see that u can still shoot outside with a t-shirt on😂.

Good info Jeff. I agree, slim arrows are weaker. I wonder if the 6.5s are the same as the old ST Epics. Man those were super tolerant good shooting arrows.

for a cheap practise arrow skylon bentwood is pretty much impossible to beat. And they come 33" so just enough for some forms of asiatic archery. I do change the inserts to the heavier tophat ones to get the weight up & higher foc. Stock fletchings are surprizingly good.
Other then that i'd jump straight to either gold tip trad or sirius.

Interesting. I’ve been using Beaman Bowhunter 400s, which are now Easton 6.5, since I switched to carbon. I chose them for expense and to get a high FOC build as the shafts are only 8.2 gn per inch. I have a total of 350 gn up front and they fly really nice from a 45# longbow.

Hi Jeff. After watching this video and listening to your reply from my last comment, I think I want to try the Easton 6.5 BowHunters a try. You mentioned I may want to try 400s due to my long draw. I measured my current arrows and they are just under 32.5". That's from nock to insert, with just about 7/8" hanging off the front shelf of my 45lb. Ben Pearson Cougar 1050 (closer to 49 lbs at my draw). Now, I don't know if that bow is cut to center, I assume it's not, but I don't know.
My dilemma is that Easton doesn't make the BowHunter arrow that long until I go up to a 300 (32.25") or even a 250 spine. I plan on running 250-300 grains up front for my hunting setup. I never hear you talk about spines that stiff. Should I look for another arrow, or move to the 300 or 250? I'm hoping for a 170 fps(ish) arrow at the end of the day.
I'm on a tight budget, so I hope to get the right arrow the first time. Thank you SO much for all your content, your energy and enthusiasm makes me want to get back into archery and get my first trad deer!

You always have good information and advice. For the small diameter arrows is there 100 grain inserts available for them?
If your current insert has a threaded hole on the bottom take a 2 1/2 inch piece of 1/8 threaded rod and screw in to the bottom. Make sure you screw in the field tip first, the threaded rod should weigh about 70+ grains , good luck

You are not missing out. Some of the least expensive arrows are 100% as functional as more expensive arrows. For 40 years, I've tried everything. Now I stick with the basic line of shafts, regardless of brand or material. Carbon, wood, or aluminum, base model shafts give you over 90% of everything you need, in quality and performance.

@@chief1193 you need to start with them about 2” longer than your true draw length, you want a couple inches sticking out past the riser at full draw 👍🏻

I love the 4” because they’re faster and quieter and I run about a 5 degree left helical they fly broadheads great 👍🏻

Jeff have you ever shot any .166 id arrows micro diameter arrows? And are their any cheap ones in this size out there?
Yes the black eagle instinct are.166 and they definitely run weak on spine but shoot great, very fast and lots of penetration.
To heavy add a little weight to the nock.
Jeff Does arrow straightness make any difference in broadhead flight ? Will a .003 or .001 fly better than a .006 you should do a test
With a recurve or longbow, no. You can’t shoot good enough to really tell the difference. Compound is a different story because you have more repeatable anchors, accuracy built in.
It's a shame that we have come to this point but the big name arrows are being pushed aside. The economy has degraded to where the name brand arrows are out of reach for many. The quality of many of the Chinese amazon arrows can stand up to many of the name brand at a fraction of the cost
Yes sir you’re right especially ones like the Linkboy, I’ve had several Amazon arrows do great and some didn’t but the ones that say Japanese pure carbon and actually give a straightness tolerance are great and lots cheaper but I think people also like accountability which only comes with name brands in the event of product failure and liability.
Gold tip are overrated average arrows. Guess they are popular from their extensive advertising. I been building arrows , tuning bows, and making strings for well over 25 years. Never was impressed with Gold Tip. This year ordered a dozen GT traditional 600 shafts. 2 of them were over 0.025 “ from straight.and the full length 600 traditional shaft come 30” long ! A full length Trad 600 should not ever come full length shorter than 31”. Customer service didn’t care about my issue and did nothing. They said they would be wasting carbon to make them longer than 30” ! I said not in a Trad shaft, and well I wasted $100 ! Thats last straw with GT ! Cant go wrong with Easton ! For laughs I ordered a dozen Linkboy 500 shafts on Amazon,$50 ,for a bow. I built them and they fly like darts ! Killed 3 deer with them this year and haven’t damaged one yet !
