  • Using the DS62CTEC RASA 11 image of the Pelican and Wall that is up on the Group. I will show you how you can make a couple of Actions in Photoshop that will simulate the Hubble Palette from the OSC camera with a Dual Band Filter. Because we don't have the Sulfur Channel to work with. We will use the Blue Channel for the Sulfur in the SHO image we will create.
    If you have more than one camera that you would like to try this with. Start with the largest sensor you have to make the Actions. The smaller sensor data will be inside the larger sensor area which you need to crop out before running the Selective Color Action.
    These two Actions will get you very close to that Hubble look and I would add a Curve, Level, and Hue & Saturation at the end to finalize the colors to your liking. As the last step. Copy and Paste the Stars into the new image.
    I don't use GIMP but if GIMP has scripting or an Action function. You can do basically the same thing I did in Photoshop in GIMP.
    If you have any questions... feel free to ask.
    Here's the link to the Selective Color numbers:

    Can I flatten the image without astroflats pro? I don’t have it or star xterminator. Having a lot of trouble making this do anything but turn yellow

      It would be much harder to do without it. You could get Siril which is free and load the image into that and try the background extraction tool to see what happens... Then save the image as a 16 bit tiff file to load back into Photoshop. When you get yellow, you can then try the Hue and Satuiration tool to play with the various colors to get colors more to your liking... Hope this helps

    How do you load the RC Astro plugins into the Astronomy tools action set? Thanks.

      Charles, This link will download the Action as a Zip file. www.rc-astro-cdn.com/StarXTerminator/UnscreenStars.atn.zip The directions should be inside the UnZipped Folder as to how to install it. Hope this helps...

    Sorry ti bother you again, but when I am creating the actions, the Hubble selective color will not run. It says it is not available . I am sure I am doing something incorrect. Thanks for your help. The SHO(BRG) works perfect.

      Charles, The only thing I can think of is the Action didn't get made correctly. Delete the one you made and start again. With the image you wish to do the Hubble Colors to. Open the Action Pallete and look for the hambuger dropdown at the top right. Select New Action and give it a name and select Record. The window will close and the Record button at the bottom of the Action Pallete will be Red. This mens the new action is ready for you to start doing what you want to do. When you are finished with the Action Record. Hit the Stop button to the left of the Record button and the action is ready to use the next time you want to do the Hubble Colors on an image. When you want to try the action. Select it and hit the Play button and the action will run until complete. Hope this helps...

      Charles, This will not work on a normal 2 band pass image. It needs to be done to the SHO (BRG) image to get the desired look. Once the action is run, you can then use the Hue and Saturation tool to work on the individual colors. If you should happen to try this action on a "normal" image. You will not see much happen to the image but it is a very subtle color shift in the darks...

      @@rickarmstrong2476 The Optolong L-Extreme is a dual band filter that covers Ha and OIII. Because there is no sulfur, this will skew the results. You need to make a sulfur channel and this can help. Won't fix it all, but should help... The North American is also Ha heavy which doesn't help the cause either... Would you be will to send me your image? You can put it in the cloud and send me a link to the file... Let me know...

      @@jeffrh so if I had something like the radian triad ultra, this would work then I’m assuming. I also have the L enhance buts is HA, HB, and O3. Still no S2. What filter did you use for your image in the video?

    • @jeffrh
      @jeffrh  Рік тому +1

      @@rickarmstrong2476 When you only have a dual band pass filter like the Optolong L-Extreme. When you start moving the channels around. You need to make up a channel for the sulfur. I used a combination of the Green and Blue channels to get mine. The Ultra can help you here as it will put and combination of sulfur and I believe OII into the green channel. This should help you when you start playing with the channel moves.
      In this video, I show how I made my green channel. I was using an IDAS NBZ UHS filter which is a dual band. Another thing you can do is stretch each channel to get the background evened out. You can also over stretch the green channel to boost what ever you have for sulfur... Hope this helps...
