It's a 1980s toy designed specifically to be a toy. Plus it needed to be cost effective. There was no real toy collector market as it stands today, let alone for nostalgic purposes. Scale with toys was really almost always overlooked. I had this thing and it was wonderful. The scale issue never even occurred to me. You could say the same about Cat's Lair, but as a kid that playset was frickin awesome as well. Kinda being a little hard on this. I think a lot of care and ingenuity went into this.
The 80’s were wild! I don’t know what came first between the 80’s cartoons and toy lines, but so many of the toys were made different in comparison to how they were on the cartoons! Damn Thundertank toy from ‘85 was a 2 passenger vehicle! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I never had one either as a kid but I got one as an adult and reached the same conclusions you did. It really is fiddly and fragile. Fun in a sort of nostalgic way but yeah let's hope Super7 comes through with theirs and makes the definitive Thundertank.
Stoked for the Super7 tank! I have nowhere to put it and don't even care. The original was one of the crown jewel toys for me then. The cat's lair was probably the only thing I ever wanted more and I had that too, life was good! The treads broke on it right away and we returned it and they broke again on the next one and at that point my bubble was burst. Either way it was still fun while it lasted.
It is cool you had one back in the day! You are living proof this was more of a display piece with a great gimmick than a durable toy. Thanks for sharing
I always wanted the thundertank but when I saw that it was undersized and couldn't put all the figures in it not only did I not get it, I didn't get into the whole Thundercats line.
Ok. You mentioned the Turtle van in your video. I have trying to find clarification on the Underground Arsenal turtle van. I have now seen announcements for a NECA branded turtle van. And the pics look just like the Undergorund arsenal. Are people confused? Is the underground arsenal turtle van its own product and there is no actual NECA turtle van coming out? I will post links below to show you.
So much focus on the Thundertank that Panthro's other vehicles that he created like the Thunderclaw, Feliner and Hovercat don't get much attention by the toymakers. If the G.I. Joe toyline got the USS Flagg, the Thundercats should have their flagship and the Cat's Lair be made as playsets
@@tydiriumhanger1320 If we get a Cat's Layer from Super 7 it has to be massively huge and bigger then the Thunder Tank if we are talking scale because on the Thundercat's cartoon the thunder tank would often come out of the Cat's Layer's paw and looking very tiny next to it LOL! Thundercat's Woah!!!!🐾🤔😮🤷
Finally I found a video of the LJN thundertank variants! I happen to have both, both damaged... 10:00 yup, have one with that issue as well.

I would love to see how this Thundertank compares / looks beside the Funko Savage World figs. They are my go-to, as I collect mostly MOTU.
I had the og Thundertank. It always bothered me it only fit two figures. I would love to see a third party make one that fits Super7
I still have mine mint in the box it box with extra tracks that purchased in 85

They both appear to be the same toy. But they each have their own brand.

So true that I did know those other vehicles existed until last year
Isn't there a Lego ThunderTank and/or Funko pop ThunderTank?
The Super7 makes the vintage look like the thunder scooter
It is Thunder whelming! Amirite?
Yep that Super7 tank is so big I have been planning where to display it since the preorder LOL
@@Cyril29a HAHA Thunderwhelming!
