Just finished watching the film. It’s wonderful the memorial to Bomber Command was built. Those guys - dad included, a navigator with them - were incredible!
Superb. Absolutely superb. My heart swells with pride whenever I hear this as it always reminds me of all the brave lads who from this or other ops, never returned. Per Ardua Ad Astra
This march used to be the introduction of a radio news programme in my country in the 60's. It brings back memories, not of the news, but of my childhood back then. It's a great piece.
this has made me feel so emotional, I used to play the double bass in secondary school and we did this for one of our summer concerts in the orchestra, it's strange I'm listening with headphones and all I can hear is the bass line I use to play :)
healthywholemealbread I feel you. I used to sing, I'm a baritone set to sing bass line. Whenever I listen to something if my old repertoire, I get the same feeling
This performance makes me want to rip my Union Jack T shirt off and drape it around the entire planet. One of the most blue- blood-curdling, bombastically brilliant pieces of British brass-balls bravado ever commited to sheet music. Jean-Claude van Damme bustingly good stuff.
My son-in-law's grandmother, a Londoner, served in the RAF in WWII. She lived long enough to attend her grandson's wedding. He, on the other hand, served in the USAF and is presently full-time Air National Guard.

52 for me and when we are closed on a Sunday and no one is around I play this when getting a run up with the potatoes and let them go sadly though can't mention the ladrador anymore when getting a direct hit lol
Nice detail: the march was not written for the eponymous film at all. Eric Coates, the composer, was approached if he could write something for the film, and he simply came up with this march that he had recently written to no commission and was lying on his shelves still unused.
Sadly Wing Commander Gibson was later shot down by friendly fire whilst piloting a Mosquito, which was mistaken for an enemy aircraft. And despite all of his achievements he was only 23 when he died! RIP.
"There's a great story about some guy doing this to legendary (and sadly late - RIP) Aussie conductor Richard Kingsmill. He loved the Dambusters March, so a bunch of guys from the orchestra set up outside his house on his birthday, and were going to play it...but then a shitload of NSW Police vans turned up before they could start. Everyone shat themselves when the vans stopped, and the doors opened... ...and the entire NSW Police Band steps out with their instruments, sets up with them, and joined them in playing along. Turns out word got out, and someone tipped off the cops, but only the band leader so they could join in." - u/disposable-name

Dam Busters, the lovely march...It makes me feel so proud of my british ancestors, the Knights and the Levers. Therefore, it´s a broken heart for half of it is in Chile and the rest somewhere along the Tamesis.
The theme of this selection is what totally deserves to be the fight song for Ballard High School in Iowa; but with modified lyrics: Fight on with mighty endeavor, Loyal to Ballard forever Raise your voices to the skies: Onward, Bombers fly! Add one more win to her story For Alma Mater’s glory Hit them hard and see them fall To Ballard High And know our hearts will still live on For Ballard High!
I was in the Cadet Corps in the 50s, never marched to this mores the pity but we spent one summer camp at Sandhurst billeted in the officer cadets quarters. Sunday morning parade was AWESOME with RSM Britain belting out the orders. Best wishes, stay safe.
Brilliant..served in RAF regiment for 2 years then medical remaster to mt...RAF bandsmen are still not tho..and always will be.. shouldn't be classed as service personnel..they play musical instruments for a living...and used to be press ganged into being stretcher bearers..which they have always tried dodging ...they didn't even have to do weapons training at swinderby ..not really servicemen then?...no not at all..paid minstrels at best.
This is such a moving piece of music to any Englishman, Irishman, Welshman and Scotsman with red blood running through their veins. The men and women of Bomber Command deserve our complete respect and admiration. This is something that the present crop of far-left, snivelling, woke snowflakes in the UK cannot and will not ever understand.
Every child should be taught the story of these men who fought for this country 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
And the other countries that helped of course, without whom they would have failed?
Absolutely! Even if the latecomers did help get the job done. These men help me put my own probs into perspective.
everyone bloody is. watch the dambusters theme once every christmas, and make sure to tell the kids not to repeat the name of the dog!

Guy Gibson would have loved it, if only he had lived. . . Never forget the sacrifice of so many.
Anyone with a connection or not to the R.A.F. this music must swell your heart with pride. It does mine.
It absolutely does.
I remember playing this in a youth orchestra and my goodness it gave me boosts of adrenaline I loved playing this so much
My daughter also played this in youth orchestra and to this day I only hear the flute part!!
Lovely performance. Makes me proud to be British. Please remember 8 Lancasters and 56 airmen failed to return from this mission ! RIP.
Men who I pay my respects to on 17th May every year, men who are buried in the Netherlands and Germany. #wewillrememberthem
mr Eric Coates, master of this march. Absolutely a master composition, Great!!

Jefferson mate Richard Kingsmill runs Triple J, and is definitely not dead. You’re thinking of Richard Gill.
