Wow a blast from my past..1988 I believe..great time's. I seen a lot of this filmed live. Great to watch again, now I want to go out riding on my 87 Haro Sport..LoL. Thanks for sharing.
wow those were the days drain pipe and lay back seat poles as high as u could get them lol miss these days..great vid to m8.i havnt seen this one B4.and ive been watchin and doin bmx for 25 plus yrs.friggin back injury stopped me ridin..THATS SUX plus im 40 now but hey i still show my 6yr old son a trick or two...haha
this is why kids were not fat and lazy, you and your friends would find somewhere to chill and practice, even a kid like me from urban ghetto the hood would stay out of trouble by doing this.
I like how bikes had their own style back then. Its like the cars of the 60s which were so stylish compared to today, although they have returned to that style somewhat with cars.
No hate intended towards the uploader, this is just what I was told. I was tweeting about this while watching it a couple of months back, I was complaining about the editor over using an effect where I didn't think it was necessary, but I said I shouldn't complain because it had Eddy Roman in it. A few weeks later Eddy replied to my tweet saying the guy who filmed it promised to pay the riders and then skipped town, and that I could complain all I wanted as far as he was concerned. A shame because it's a cool video, some great riders and sweet bikes there too. Thanks for posting :)
Yea i know cheesy short shorts and wife beaters but they were such great times. in 20 years we may all be laughing at those guys in skinny jeans with lowered seats and pulled back handlebars and bikes that say fit on them ( note i love fit bikes btw)
It was heavy as fuck. It was convertible with the twist of a screw on the hub. Coaster brake and then freewheel. Flatland guys were starting to use them but they were too heavy for me. Remember too they were 48's. 48's were awesome, never bent shit, just keep em tight. But that's another story.
cool info man, remember seeing them for the first time in about 2000 in a copy of Ride and I was like "WHAT IS THIS WITCHCRAFT?!!" haha. Funnily enough, just got back into BMX after a 15 year hiatus and had a pair of wheels built, had my heart set on a pair of 48s but the guy was like "yeah, good luck finding hubs and rims for those." :( Also, found an old 98 copy of ride, (the John Taylor Full Pipe edition) and under the new reviws are a par of pergrine 95 spoke wheels. Radial spokes, they look like lowrider wheels on a BMX The 90s were amazing, men were men, and bikes were tanks haha
I haven't ridden a new style bike. But from the looks of it, it's not just the weight. It's all about the chainstay length. Helps with everything, from whips to flips. I'd like to know how the bikes are so strong. Chromoly hasn't changed to my knowledge, or the process to heat treat it. But yeah, those bikes are super light compared to our trucks. And I cracked nearly every frame I ever had. Mongoose, bent chain stays. Torker, cracked headtube, Pro Performer cracked weld at seat tube and bent forks. Redline, cracked dropout on fork. Haro Master, seat tube crack. Hutch handlebars, twisted like a pretzel. And more bent axels than I care to recall. The list goes on. But of all that, the most annoying thing was snapped gyro cables, oh man. That killed me, went through them like like candy. Ahh, the good old days, lol.
Never saw this. It sucks and that's probably why. The flatland tricks were way more advanced by 88. Ramp riders too. This was probably filmed in 86 and released in 88. There was a big jump in technicality during those mid 80's years. Rolling/scuffing tricks that are the basis for what the top guys do today.
Michael Sutterfield Thanks for the help. I never heard of starway. I have a frame that looks just like that one in the video but I think its a schwinn predator pro freeform or something 87-88
Pretty lame. No audio, is the copy write holder really losing out on a lot of income from a freestylin' video that came out in 1988. Can you even purchase this any more? This history, it's nostalgia, it should be archived on places for a mass audience to see what it was like in 1988. This feels like it got a copy write strike only because, Hey, that's mine!" let go, let other people enjoy your work, because I doubt you're making huge profits, here.
I got a vhs copy of this video when I was about 6 years old, probably 1991. I'm still riding 25 years later, crazy. thanks for posting this.
I have this on VHS... My Favorite Movie since I was a Kid... I just Love the Opening Hurricane Song...
Back when the bikes still looked cool! Love dave voelker. Saw him on x games when he was around 40 and he was still a nutter!
No Mullets were harmed during the making of this video.

My guess is a "Star Way" I remember them having that cross bar from the down tube to the seat post.
Michael Sutterfield Thanks for the help. I never heard of starway. I have a frame that looks just like that one in the video but I think its a schwinn predator pro freeform or something 87-88
fuckwututhink You are right. Its a freeform pro by Schwinn. There is no such bike as a Starway.
Do some searching smart guy
+Eddie Dz Google "Star Way Freemaster" ... ;)
