    The moment DNA storage is mentoned, I remembered a scene from the movie "Lucy" where towards the end, she turns into a blob of black mass and gives out the entire futuristic knowledge, encrypted in a pendrive.

      I know lol, hard drives are becoming obsolete. You can drop a Solid State Drive and it won’t get corrupted.

    Learning to avoid high interest debt while also learning how to put your money to work for you by investing is a very powerful combo (especially when you learn young) The earlier you start investing your money and putting it to work, the more time compound interest has to work its magic on your portfolio. This is how I'm going to achieve early retirement and it's possible for everyone. All you need to do is learn and start.

      I have saved myself from all the hassle that chaotic market causes. These days the best way to come into the market space is reading, studying, patience and seeking guidance when necessary, due to my line of work i can’t handle my portfolio so i just copy the trades of ''Mr, Josef Dennis'', a FA i saw on Bloomberg business news. It’s been smooth since then.

    I wish it was mentioned that data in the cloud is almost always stored redundantly. So if you upload a photo to your iCloud or whatever, the chunks of that photo will be stored across multiple servers in case one breaks down.

    I am very amused (and mindblown) about the idea of storing data in bacteria, then future generations of that bacteria would still retain it.
    Makes me think if a scenario where I go to a new young bacteria and ask it about a file its great great great grandfather memorized and it would tell me. XD
    Humans are awesome.

    The biggest issue with DNA storage is read/write speeds. You cant achieve modern-day speeds on DNA storage yet.

      how about writing on a regular hard drive and copying it to DNA and once the copying has completed, delete the hard drive information, doesn't solve the 'read' part though

      Although more durable, it still decays over time.
      I once read how even cosmic rays can corrupt data. On a personal computer, it is too rare/minimal to worry about. But for servers, they are clustered together so much that cosmic rays is actually a calculated risk/expense.
      I may be misremembering some details but it was fascinating.

      Almost all data centers / networks use HDD, not SSD. HDD is a fraction of the cost of SSD per terrabyte. SSD is good for personal computers, programers, animators etc - but for network data storage you have to use HDD otherwise you'd spend an insane fortune trying to store things on SSD.

    • @Johanneslol11
      @Johanneslol11 2 роки тому

      This why aren’t ssd mentioned at least. Also some datacenters still use tape as this is still a cheap cold storage methode.

    • @Johanneslol11
      @Johanneslol11 2 роки тому +1

      @@Hathur we have already passed the point where ssd are cheaper then HDD. Also you have server grade ssd now that are used for caching data. Finally you also have optane drives. (Though that is being faded out again. For large storage arrays they might also use tape as cold storage
